The thing I love about this scene is that right before Sokka and Aang show up, you get to see that reason Katara is such as good water bender is that she has learned from other bending techniques. When Hama throws a huge water blast at Katara, instead of catching and guiding the flow (what a traditional water bender would do), Katara stands firm and allows it to break against her (what an earth bender would do).

The follow up counter attack, where Katara uses that same water to attack Hama from two sides, spinning her onto the ground, is a fire bending move.
@Keno314042 ай бұрын
@@erianle123547 You think so? The stance seemed way more in tune with earth bending. Plus other than fighting them, she wouldn't have been too familiar working along side fire benders.

@@Keno31404 she would actually have a lot experiences with firebenders as they have been her primary enemy.
@Keno314042 ай бұрын
@@Ziaotic true. The stance still feels very “grounded” if that makes sense. Looks like something Toph would do
@erianle1235472 ай бұрын
@@Keno31404 I agree, it does seem like something Toph might do, but I couldn't find a scene that showed her doing it. It is worth noting that Toph's style is unique among earth benders. Attacking from two sides like that to essentially spin an opponent onto their butt could also be an air bending move. Either way, it still showcases Katara learning from other bending styles and using their moves to hone her own skills. She's a master for a reason.

Whats so awesome about Hana is that she didnt lose. Her goal was to teach Katara how to bloodbend. That way, she could keep her ability even if she died. And she forced her to learn it. Amazing.
@ThrustersX2 ай бұрын
I just realized that when Hama was bloodbending Katara, Katara was able to regain command of her body by controlling her own blood which is a necessary step forward towards learning bloodbending.

The emotional impact of it doesn’t really land until Katara breaks down crying as the boys try and comfort her after Hama laughs in triumph. It’s too bad that’s left out here.

Who knew Avatar had this kind of turn? They don't do dark often, but when they do, they nail it.
@brandodasavage55382 ай бұрын
Idk about "they don't do dark often." Episode 3 introduces racial genocide. The Earth Kingdom is controlled by a secret government of fascists controlling the monarch and running hidden compounds where they do brain-washing. Fire Lord Ozai burned and banished his own son for talking out of turn and refusing to fight him. Fire Lord Azulon ordered Ozai to murder Zuko because Ozai wanted Azulon to revoke Iroh's birthright. The Earth Kingdom soldiers left in small villages are shown to sometimes be corrupt bullies who take advantage of mostly women and children who have lost their fathers, brothers, and sons to the war. Princess Yue sacrificed her own life for the good of her tribe and the entire world. APPA GETS ABUSED IN A CIRCUS!

they actually had dark themes quite often! i love that they didnt treat children as unable to grasp these concepts and adults can enjoy watching too

I mean, I get why people think it's cool, but bloodbending is really fucked up, and it's not something you should like doing. Just the sound of it is disturbing. It feels parallel to sa, so people finding it cool freaks me out.

It's heavily implied just how horrific its potential is by demonstrating how they can sap all the moisture out of the plants. Not to mention you could potentially bend and twist limbs beyond their normal limits or flood it to one place and cause it to rupture. But, thankfully, it is a kids show and they drew the line at how they wanted to portray it. Hama was angry and vindictive, but she very well could've done far, far worse than torment and imprison her victims.
