Read ALL 1980-95 GM Ford Chrysler Toyota OBD1 Engine Light Codes and Fix

Classic and antique car owners of all walks of 1980-1995 cars believe that the 'paperclip method' is the solve to all on board diagnostic (OBD) fixes. That is sincerely not the case, many models regardless of brand do not have the ability to flash engine error codes on the dashboard. My 1994 camaro f-body is a special single year where the 'paperclip method' does NOT work.The cheap 'code reader scanners' that essentially do the same as the 'paperclip method' do not always work either. Additionally, an OBD-I OBD1 to OBD-II or OBD2 adapter does not properly read codes. Does this read live data? I'm looking for a scanner that can read my 1992 Oldsmobile Royale 88 LS. But not only while it's not running..I want one that can read and store live data while I'm driving. My car has been to many shops and not a single one can fix my car that acts like it is gonna die when I have to wait at stop lights of stop sign the issue im currently having seems to happen when my car has reached operating temp. It's been acting like it's gonna die only when in park or drive at a stop light or sign and only when my car has reached operating temp. I swear I am running in circles trying to fix my car

@@andrewb8043 Not yet. I have to fix my 12 volt cigarette lighter socket. It isn’t getting any power. I tried running it with just batteries, but it wouldn’t communicate with my car. It says “car not found”. I think you have to use the 12 volt power cable.

An Autoxray 4000 scanner gives me around 28 real time sensor values from my '95 OBD1 Buick Skylark 3100. I can view and record AC refrigerant pressure, torque converter status and "slip", engine and transmission temp, rpm, transmission gear selected by PCM, vehicle speed, O2 sensor voltage, O2 cross count, injector pulse, idle air stepper position, knock count, tons of other stuff, status of nearly all parameters. I see these scanners pop up on fleabay from time to time, this scanner can also read the earlier OBDII vehicles. Be careful though, make sure it's configured to your target vehicle because to unlock each vehicle was optional and there's no vender support for this scanner anymore. One clue is the scanner will come with the cable appropriate for the vehicles it's configured for (ford/gm/Chrysler, OBDII, etc), so look at the included cables!

@@Derec I'd be glad to share screenshots of 1986->2000 GM vehicle scans and put some effort into what's needed (ancient software/PC's) with those scans. Ford's implementation wasn't as good as GM's were, I can't speak for Chrysler.

If it’s still stored in the system & hasn’t been erased you should be able to retrieve the data. For most OBD1 applications the only way to erase the code(s) is by disconnecting the battery unlike OBD2 which you can use the actual scan tool to erase the codes. Not sure if 1994 obd is the same.
