I'm actually the opposite to you on the Shakespeare authorship question - I started out open minded to the idea someone else wrote the plays, but the more and more research I do into it (there are over 5,000 books on the subject) the more clear it becomes to me that the man Shakespeare himself was the person who wrote them. Pretty much every single time in my experience it's the anti-Stratfordians who are trying to put others down and claim other people don't know what they're talking about. I'll still read this book though, I'll read literally ANYTHING on the Shakespeare authorship question I'm such a Shakespeare junkie (if you're already familiar with the authorship arguments I'd recommend both Bill Bryson's chapter on it in "Shakespeare" and James Shapiro's "Contested Will"). Thank you for bringing this book to my attention, it's now on the list. If I had to recommend a mystery/thriller that was the greatest page turner I've ever read, it would be Vladimir Nabokov's Pale Fire. Strongly recommend if you haven't picked it up, I think you would love it.
@isenhobbitz8 ай бұрын
Winkler’s book does not portray Shapiro (as an individual) in a very positive light to say the least and she is very critical of his book. Not arguing either way on the topic, but giving you a heads up as it could make Winkler’s book either more interesting or frustrating depending on the context of your previous research.

I totally agree. At this point, the “authorship question” is kinda just cringy and conspiratorial. Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare

My sister is a fan of Caroline’s channel and recommended I try out the book. I thought it was a fun time as well! It was my first introduction to the topic though, so I don’t know how it holds up for those more familiar with the topic, but as a standalone it was a good time. I really enjoyed how irreverent and snarky it was.

I was about two minutes into this video when you first posted it, and then I decided to pause it and go read the book. I went into it knowing almost nothing about the authorship question. I finished the book convinced that anyone with an open mind can’t help but question the authorship once they start looking into it. The book was every bit as good as you promised. Thanks for the recommendation.

5:56 A question. Was Francis Bacon presented as a candidate?
@hglundahl8 ай бұрын
Shall we say, I'm pretty sold on the idea it was Shakespear himself, and he was Catholic, but of the ones presented as alternatives, I'd give least scepticism perhaps to Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford or William Stanley, 6th Earl of Derby. Bacon was too overall different, I'd say (without having read him), and Marlowe was much gorier as a playwright.
@isenhobbitz8 ай бұрын
Bacon is presented as an early theory when she details the history of the debate, but he is not shown as a particularly strong candidate.
@hglundahl8 ай бұрын
@@isenhobbitz Thank you! I'd definitely agree on the latter assessment. Part of the "weakness" of Shakespear himself is ignorance of where he got whatever education he had, but there is obviously the thesis he was in North Italy under pseudonyms in Jesuit colleges, preparing to become a priest hider. Part of it is obviously also that we are now less used to the things an even secondary education would have involved back then. LOTS less Math and Science. LOTS more history, literature, and how to do descriptions.

Hello! I'm new to this BookTuber's channel. So, I have a question: has Liene read Malazan Book of the Fallen, but hasn't done any video reviews on it? Because I can't find them. Or does she plan on reading them? Or has she given them a try and then DNF-ed them? Because I also looked for a video rant on Malazan between her videos, but couldn't find any. Maybe she doesn't plan on reading them or talking about them at all...?! Edit: after much searching, I found two videos about Malazan, but they are both about Gardens of the Moon. So, it seems like she DNF-ed the series...? I'm very much interested to know if her father stuck with it though. He seemed to like it and he said that he has faith in Erikson. So, I hope he did!
