Great stuff! As a pilot (old school), this reminds me of NDB approaches/navigation. Old saying, “big cuts, fast corrections, and when in doubt, parallel your course”. I love your take a known wrong bearing so you have an idea which way to go when at the ridge...perfect!!

Outbox. I don't have problem with any calculations in my head but as a begginer diver I'm gonna relay on computer. I just don't know yet how much influance nitrogen will have on my calculations :) But thanx for showing me my future way :)

The key is your team. If you do the math with your team it's very unlikely for 2 or 3 divers to make the same mistake at the same time.

10:49 - One pressure gauge vs two on a Twinset. I dive a back-mounted manifold twins and have an analog SPG on one of the first stages and an AI transmitter on the other. I use my AI transmitter, but should that fail, the analog gauge is always there. Plus, it was nice to have when doing valve drills.

When you calculate 'from the top of your head', do you calculate single level dives (x minutes at Y depth), multi-level dives, or do you use an average (in the depth department)? Just curious. How precise can you calculate in your head?

Hoi Gijs, ik gar er van uit dat je Nederlands spreekt maar ik houw het maar op het engels :-) Very good question, I keep track of avg depth throughout the dive. By thinking ahead and starting with the first time segment. Lets say I stay at the prop of a wreck at 28m and after 8minutes I get bored and ascend to the deck at 20m. Now after 8minutes I simply find the avg by dividing the difference in depth by 2 and adding that to the shallowest depth. So now I have spent 16minutes @ 24m and my Avg is now 24. I can reset the clock in my mind and let's say I stay for 16more minutes at the deck now it's 22 for 32min. If I only spend 8 more on the deck and another 8 on the wheelhouse @ 15m I first act that which is 17,5. For 16min and now again take the difference and add to the 15m which gives me 18,5m (rounded) for 32min dive time But I suggest you join us for our Live Q/A on Ratio Deco this coming Wednesday 3. March at 20:00 cet. We will also cover depth averaging as well as many Ratio Deco topics. Hope to see you there.
