Thoroughly enjoyed doing this with TMF. In fact a bit of a laugh! Very hospitable, with a tour of TMF Towers and a look round the man cave. Sorry if I mumbled a bit but found it a bit nerve wracking. Hats off to the pro, TMF, it all comes natural to him. Yep the neighbour thing had me laughing too when I watched it but then my other half reckons we've got lots of neighbours and this particular biker neighbour lives next door! For once, I'll agree with her... Shame about the weather though as I feel it handles pretty well considering its bulk. I thought the brakes were good too, with twin Nissen 4 pots up front and a single Brembo 2 pot at the rear, but as someone else has said, you do tend to use front and back together due to the weight of it. Btw, the cave lights made the dark ruby pearl colour look a bit 'burnt orange' ! Regarding the Harley thing, I recently had a test ride on a 2018 Breakout and although I loved the look of it, I think I made the right choice with better build quality and better components. And of course, the price of them! If anybody else gets the chance to do a Readers Ride, go for it. Looking forward to seeing somebody else's bike as I'm not just into cruisers!

I have the matt black Thunderbird Storm. It’s the bike I came back to after many years of abstinence. Yes it’s big, but I live in the US and the roads are big and suit this bike perfectly. Of course I keep looking at other bikes I would like, but come back to the fact that I don’t think I could part with my Storm; it’s a beauty, has oodles of torque, is comfortable, sounds great, and you can sit on it for hours and hours. Love it!
@jameshind66446 жыл бұрын
I’ve got one of these, a 2013 model Matt black with triumph shorty pipes, Decat, k&n filter and different tune. It flies and it handles extremely well given it’s size. One of the best bikes I’ve ever owed.

Love my 2011 Thunderbird 1600. Use it every day for commuting unless the roads are salted! Not a polisher so coated in acf50 all year around. Weight not an issue with low cog, seat height and like the bonneville beautifully balanced. Cant believe they stopped making it. Great vlog as usual.

After my aging right knee told me in no uncertain terms that my YZF600R was no longer suitable for long days in the saddle, I bought a 2010 Thunderbird 1600.After I adjusted to its limitations, it handles very well for a large bike and I’ve ridden it on overnight trips and day long rides and it is very comfortable. Like all bikes, it has its quirks. Drive belt alignment/adjustment being the chief niggle. If it’s not right you get a chirping noise at low speeds that’s quite annoying. Overall I’m happy with it.

Great bike the Triumph Thunderbird. Nearly bought one myself a few years back. The thing with heavy cruisers is that you have to apply both front and rear brakes together if you want to slow up quickly, unlike lighter bikes where you can just use the front brake alone. Triumph brakes are very good and only in the last couple of years have Harley drastically improved their brakes so one finger braking is now possible...
@TheMissendenFlyer6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, maybe I just need to adapt my riding - defo becoming a cruiser man now! Hope you’re well and the bike is still getting ridden regularly?

I'm well thanks, was hoping to get a few more rides in before the weather changes. I think the Cruiser thing really attracted me when I was in my 50s. It just seemed to make sense. Really enjoyed this Readers ride. 👍
@loddude57066 жыл бұрын
Another air/bike crossover perhaps? (Ground handling & CofG) Cruiser/Sport bike vs tail dragger/nose wheel? A bit like dirt bikes, cruisers 'ride' on the back wheel - the front end is only there to keep the nose up & 'request a heading' - & remember, most early Harleys etc. had no front brake at all. ('Back it in'. : )

Too bad you didn’t buy one, Graham. I have a 2013 Storm. Awesome ride. Totally happy with it. Love Triumphs! They got the T-bird right.👍 But what’s up with that yellow Brit license plate, huh? Not very attractive on the back of that candy apple red T-bird!😩

I have three Triumphs, a 2009 1600cc Thunderbird, a 2013 Tiger 800XC and a 2015 Tiger 1050 Sports. So you might say a bit of a fanboy myself. I am lucky enough to live in the biking heaven of Tasmania with some amazing roads and twisties. The Thunderbird handles very well on twisties, and never fails to put a smile from ear to ear. The torque is amazing, and its only as an afterthought most times that I ever use top gear when I wonder if I am in top. Keep up the good work.

We have a 2018 - agree with pretty much everything said on the video - ours is set up with hepco & becker luggage with a harley top box wrack bolted to it - adventure mirrors with extension bars to see whats happening behind - and a 3/4 screen - we call it 'a tourer cruiser' - is that a thing ? My wife and I love it - toured in Europe many times - working up from bonnevilles - this is our second T bird - one of the last ones built - there is nothing else available fit for our purpose...so...we are hanging on to ours Tips: gt-85 - soak the clutch cable twice a year Avon cobra chrome's ( oversize on the rear ) check the forums A decent battery ( and maintainer ) Tyre plugging kit and a 16oz bottle of slime Have fun

Lovely bike and well cared for. I went from a V-star cruiser to the RT-LC and I sometimes find myself missing the Yamaha. I used to change the break fluid every 12 months - you guys had a very hot summer - might have made the fluid go off.

Lovely looking bike, well looked after. I take it Steve was riding your GS... I like the big Kawasaki cruisers VN-Vulcans, be great if you could borrow one of those. I do like cruisers, always wanted one, only ever ridden the Yamaha XVS650 Dragstar though, which was nice. I'm an all year, all weather biker so they're probably not practical as a primary bike but it'd be great to have one as a second bike for the dry days. Great review...but I am bias having my Thunderbird Nightstorm for nearly two years from new. The brakes are excellent on this bike. As someone who is over 100kg, plus 300kg of motorcycle and last year, having reduce speed instantly while a car decided to change lanes on the motorway without looking, I was thankful they grip well.. I agree the cornering isn’t great initially, but as you get used to how firmly the bike is planted to the ground, you’ll find you will regularly scrape the foot pegs. ;-) It’s also a great touring motorcycle, as it happens I did the similar Norway ride a few weeks before your adventure. Over 2600 miles, twisty roads, mountain roads, Autobahn all with ease. Go on.......Get one… ;-)

I very nearly bought one of these, the test ride killed it though. This is a very underrated bike. The engine is superb and the frame's capabilities, brakes and suspension for this style are the best we can find. This model of the video is very beautiful but the spoke wheel version is simply fantastic. This machine, in my opinion, should have midle sized hangers, like the HD Street Bob out of the box (smaller than those that can be mounted on the Triumph Bobber). This machine must be equipped with BRITISH CUSTOMS material, they have sensational products and this engine can offer a lot more character without pinching reliability (which is huge) and also improve more the maneuverability wich is already much better than other competing proposals/brands. It is possible to set up a travel screen and leather suitcases and we able to go wherever we want. Missenden, you will discover virtues in cruisers faster than you think. :-) Not to vary, another video of great quality. Cheers!

Decent review/segment, that. The tracking shots really add something to the review, lets you get an excellent perspective on what the bike (and therefore yourself if you were the rider) look like under active riding conditions. And of course, its all about "the look", eh? LOL. Might I recommend you do tracking shots on all your bike reviews........?

Well I'd love too but normally there's only me doing the review and filming, with "Readers Rides" I can rope in the unsuspecting visitor as stand in cameraman!

Fair enough! Long selfie stick maybe?

...I have even tried that! - Difficult to control the bike and hold the stick!

I would like to trade my TORS exhaust for the stock exhaust system for my Night Storm.

Can you give me your opinion please, i have a 2013 Thunderbird ABS 1600, fantastic bike which i love riding, only have one issue and i cant seem to get a solution for. Cast seem to coast downhill if its a reosonable length hill, engine cuts out? Starts again no problem and runs perfectly normal? Has happened twice to me now, has a cat delete, baffles drilled out and standard long pipes.

How strange….and annoying!

Check your MAP sensor tubes. They are under the tank on each side. It's a known issue where the tubes can come loose and cause problems.

I don't know what kind of bikes you used to riding. Thunderbird has the about the best brakes of any Cruiser I have ever ridden. With the ABS it's tops great in wet conditions also. Most things are a matter of opinion but I've never heard any other reviewer complain about the brakes.

The colour really suited Steve's bike but.......... how did he get it to you so clean on a rainy wet day and how was it so clean after you'd ridden it. Does he know Scotty and Captain Kirk?
