I currently own a 2011 Thunderbird with the BB kit. With a windshield, saddlebags, & aftermarket electronic cruise it is a great touring bike. I've ridden it from IL to California, IL to Key West, IL to New Hampshire, & IL to the New Jersey coast. It's been a solid reliable machine for 47,000 miles, & still stout running. I'm keeping it until it's shot. Have a good time with your Thunderbird until you flip it. Ride safe, ride on.

Rode my 2010 to Vancouver. 10,300 miles in 3 weeks. 1700 cc and best riding cruiser I’ve ever ridden by a mile. Rock solid, beautiful performing. Fantastic bike. ( Ducati Diavel, Indian Springfield, Harley Streetglide, Ducati St3, BMW R1150 try, several others I’ve owned. Best long distance bike I’ve had. Not little, and perfect tourer regardless of distance.Rode 16 days in the rain with no windshield.

I drove up to Las Vegas and back from Tempe, AZ all in the same day last September to pick up a 2014 Thunderbird Storm with 12,500 miles on it. Flat metallic dark silver, backrest with rack, windscreen, Viking bags, OEM high flow short pipes. I took it for a ride up the street and back (right next to Lake Mead) and when I returned, the seller told me he heard me laughing (with joy) at the top of the hill. It's really grown on me, I love it more as time goes by. I put about 3500 miles on it since. I did a lot of research before deciding on a bike, and although I would've initially liked to have gotten a Dyna Wide Glide, I ultimately got a better bike for half the price of the same year (I paid $7k). Gonna keep her for years to come.

I just bought a 2015 Thunderbird and I gotta say I agree completely. Moving here from a Yamaha V-star I'm surprised as how much easier the Triumph is to handle despite it's weight. Fun and stable bike!
@muskokamike127
@muskokamike127 4 ай бұрын
Curious: what vstar did you own? I have an 1100 custom and I find it REALLY ungainly at slow speeds. Like any deviation from 90 deg and it wants to fall over which makes doing a U turn on a 2 lane road sketchy. I've practiced for hours in an empty parking lot doing a U turn in 2 parking spaces and it just ain't happening. I had a 1200 nightster before and I could U turn that thing in almost 1 lane. It would turn on a dime.

Hey that was really a fine experience ripping around the desert on that very fine Triumph. Wow, I'm a maxi scooter guy because I'm intimidated by these badass machines and I long ago gave up my Harley. Love my scoot but I also really love seeing people who can ride and enjoy the hell out of a bike like yours. Good fun! Appreciate the commentary and man, that bike sounds GOOD :-)

We appreciate his review of the bike. My Son just bought one and I wanted to see what this 1700 cc bike is. My experience with Triumph goes all the way back to 1962 when as a Sophmore in high school one of my classmates bought a '57 650cc twin. He gave me a ride and I LOVED EVERYTHING about that motorcycle! Now, Feb 2022 my Son has ordered one. He has owned a 650 single and is an experienced driver but not with a big 1700. I feel much better about my boy owning one of this caliber. He's 50 this year and a bank manager,, so what I thing is irrelevant,, he's his own man but I still worry,, ya know, it's what a Dad does :) Anyway, I like everything this rider says about the bike, the heritage, the look, the balance, the braking and acceleration, the handling and on and on BUT unlike this driver I definitely like the large tank and the bob rear fender. I think those features belong on this bike. I do agree with him that 'ape' hangers would not look good. I would not want to change the front suspension with a rake neck or extended forks,, Triumph have invested hundreds of thousands and thousands of hours in designing and building this bike so to mess with it would not be proper,, it wouldn't handle like Triumph intended.

Since two years I own a 2016 special edition Thunderbird Nightstorm 1700. About all you mention in your review hits the nail on it's head. I've purchased mine after extensive research to find the best suitable comfy power cruiser for me. The TBird is one of the best handling power cruisers ever made fully equipped with Showa suspension and Brembo brakes. If you'd like to have more power and torque there is an aftermarket supercharger kit available that turns it into an absolute torque monster. In regards to looks and design, there are many shapes the TB is available in like the standard first series TB like the one in your video but also the Commander, LT-Touring, Storm and the NightStorm Special Edition. A downside to the TB is the very limited aftermarket accessories that are available compared to HD and original accessories are only available as used items. This model was only discontinued because of Euro4 environmental restrictions....sad story to see such a legendary bike fade away....Hopefully Triumph will pick up again on this concept one day....Greetz from the Netherlands.

That’s the only thing my 2015 Thunderbird needs handlebar risers. Then it was complete. I rode my 750 Honda Shadow from East Texas to Port Charlotte fl it took 3 days. I sold it to a friend bought the new one in Tampa and it took two days to get back. So comfortable and settled in about 80-85 all day long. I ride with a buddy with a Harley and when he says “hey wanna get on it ? Meaning twist the throttle then he says “man that bike is quick I can’t seem to catch you “

chopped rear guard n 200 mm car tyre makes for a fun handful, cat box off, short tors, hi flow air filter..... very solid, low centre of gravity, fat lumps of torque all over the rev range, 100plus HP 1700 unrestricted motor translates power to tarmac effortlessly through the wide car tyre when upright, drop the lump down in the curves and the tyre digs right in, even when 'lit up', due in no small part to the bike's 340 plus kilo weight and excellent geometary, on rails, and stops well. Curves and bends are where it's at, and John nailed it with ''intuitive handling'' Had Bonnies as a recalcetrant youth, loved them with a predictable demographic passion, the egg heads in the marketing dept at Hinckley aimed the TBird Storm right at us......ha ha! Suited my 5 foot 7 inch Small Geezer Syndrome personality just spot on..... Great vid yes, thanks buddy.

I've owned a 2010 Thunderbird 1700 for twelve years. Awesome bike , Incredible handling, Strong Torque, fast too. A few years ago I was just cruising along and a Guy on a Big 1900 CC Yamaha cruiser with aftermarket pipes came Blasting by me, I kicked down a few gears and Wide open throttle I caught and passed him and the farther we went the smaller his view in my mirrors, he picked on the wrong bike!!! Before this Bike I had a Victory Hammer, and I rode that bike Hard, and it never broke down, it lived up to its name I Hammered it and it just took the challenge. Look on you tube, type in Harley muncher. And see for yourself how tough a Victory Hammer is.

Nice review. And not over the top IMHO. I have two Storms and I think it's the best performance cruiser ever. Combination of the geometry and the CG being just about the axle line makes it incredibly deft in the corners. It's comfortable on the long rides to and from the mountains and a blast in the twisties. It's not going to corner like an R1 but it's also going to be much more stable on the long haul. True, the Triumph name has been around since 1902, but the new owners basically just bought the name to keep it going. What they did right, however, was to tour the Yamaha (and Kawasaki too, I think) factories and replicate their engineering in a new generation of parallel twin bikes. So they are closer than anything else IMO to Japanese reliability.

I ride the Storm. I don't know what else can live up to this bike. It's completely unique and has no analogue. I was thinking to switch it for another power cruiser, but I can't find any that can live up to this bike. Maybe 2020 Rocket III, but that's a whole different price category :) Maybe someday. But for now nothing beats this bike for me.

My 2015 Thunderbird LT will do 65 mph in first gear. It comes with a detachable lockable windshield so you can remove it for short rides around town in 5 minutes. Get the Remus Stainless exhaust which has a removable plug. It gives it a throaty powerful sound without being obnoxious. I have it on good information that with the Remus exhaust horsepower jumps to 102 and torque humps to 121 lb-ft of torque. It'll also approach 130 mph in 6th gear That 6 gallon tank means going a long way before fueling up again. I bought the LT because it's 2 bikes in 1. A great riding touring bike with a great seat. You can turn it into a solo rider for around town fun or beach cruiser by taking off the removable windshield which comes with a lock. You'll have a bobber on steroids in minutes.

Its out of this world and if its reliable, durable and easy to service its a great size as its smaller capacity than rocket 3 and 80 ish bhp means that the engine will be massively over engineered for the capacity. I love them as a cruiser. Is it water cooled? If its anything like T120 engine it will be solid and economical. The thruxton 1200 and the 1200 speedmaster is very different. Imagine 1700cc rathef than 1600. Massive torque and that pipe sounds real badass.

Running lights ar an extra originally there was just one light on the T-Bird (T-Bird Storm had two small liggts like the 1050 Speed triple) originally it was a 1600cc but the big bore kit took it to 1700cc power was going from 85bhp to 99bhp. The 270 degree crank was giving it the Vtwin feel. It's best HD killer here in the UK the only week point was the weight. The T-Bird Storm had different bars much better sitting position. More sporty than most HD. Here in UK a nice model like yours with the big bore kit would get you around 8000pounds wich is 10000 dolars

God that bike is beautiful, and it just sounds incredible. I totally agree that apes would ruin it, and I think a single front light would look much better. But damn, do you really have to sell that thing? Its properly good.

I agree the highway lights don't fit the rest of the bike. Without the passenger backrest/luggage rack, it would look even better. Definitely one that would be nice to keep, but I can't keep em all. Lol. 💯🤙

Great video! I have a 2010 Commander 1600. That doesn’t sound like stock pipes. Is the 1700 stock pipes the same as 1600? Did you do away with the cat converter? Can you recommend a slip on that sounds better than the OME?😊😊

You got the Rocket 3 right now and you got the BMW what is it R1 well this bike looks much like those bikes and you should start your auction bid at 5 grand and whoever wants it let that big keep going up because for all cheap it is compared to the cost of those other bikes and it looks pretty much the same you're crazy if you don't have an option you'll get 7/8 grand for it think about it

Hey I was checking out your t spring line up. Pretty dope stuff I love the fanny pack and jackets. I would recommend selling little back packs for girls to use as purses while on bikes or on the back. I think at least with Jackie's moto garage they should sell. Id def buy one for my girl.

The LT and Storm have taller gears for all the touring riding you'd be doing. Triumph used to sell " The Big Bore Kit " to take your 1599 to 1699 ccs. I don't know if they still sell it .

@@JonsMotoGarage Hey, thanks for your reply! The Warrior would be 8k€ (8,5k with a nice exhaust, but that's super illegal and will bring me nothing but trouble here), while the Tbird is at 10k€. All in all I think the Triumph would be the better offer - it's way newer and the Warrior is super rare in Germany so getting parts will be difficult. But it's the bike I've been eyeing for months. Anyway, we're in winters grip right now and under strict covid restrictions, so I have at least 1.5 months to decide (lol).
