Arsenal will defend their FA Cup title next month - but were made to fight for their Final berth by a committed and confident Reading side.
Alexis Sanchez fired the Gunners ahead with a 39th-minute strike, only for boyhood Arsenal fan Garath McCleary to pull the Royals level.
Extra-time followed, but the epic ended in sadness when the excellent Adam Federici let Sanchez’s tame shot slip through his grasp in the 106th minute.

Fair play from Reading, certainly gave us a tougher game than I anticipated. I feel so sorry for Federici, he was having a worldy of a game before the incident and at the end you could see how much it meant to him.

When Szczesny made that crucial last minute mistake in the 2011 League Cup final (as a 20 year old), nobody was feeling sorry for him. Everyone was bashing him for a big mistake. Suddenly when a goalkeeper of a small team like Reading does it against Arsenal, everyone is saying how bad they feel for him and don't even mention how poor the mistake was. It's ridiculous.

We expected to lose 4 or 5-0 so to only just lose because of a mistake and have chances to win the game makes this a great performance. Andrew Page We hit the post about 4 times, making their defense and goalkeeper look ragged in the process, but the story is that we were "lucky" because the keeper made some saves and we should have conceded a pen. The score should have been something like 6-2. Also, Frederici's lapse was a howler of amateur proportions - I don't know why everybody, even Arsenal fans, feel sorry for him. I mean they didn't feel sorry for Szczesny when it happened to us VS Birmingham.

Andrew Page Reading were wrongly given offside when they were clean through on goal TWICE, twice had two on one situations which the Pog messed up and looked more likely to score in the second half. A team like Arsenal should not be letting that happen against a team get hammered by the likes of Huddersfield and Birmingham week in week out.

It's ridiculous how people have viewed this game and said the best team lost, how? You have to view the teams as EQUALS and if you're doing that then clearly Arsenal were the better team. Yes reading made it hard for Arsenal to play their game but Arsenal did create a LOT of chances and hit the woodwork 3 times as as well as force Federici in some saves. Other than Readings goal they created virtually nothing. Gunners didn't play great but deserved to be in the final.

I'm an arsenal supporter and I was sitting through That tense game wondering if we were gonna lose. But I don't think Adam federici deserves any sympathy As its not fair to other goalkeepers that have played well And made a mistake in a game and after they got so much stick. Rob green with the world cup blunder, and what about Casillas against Holland in the 2014 world cup. After there mistakes they were in the press for weeks due to them mistakes so why should federici be treated any different. If he didn't make that mistake reading could have actually won or took it to penalties I know he must be broken about his mistake but he's not The only one. Arsenal were just to good for reading.

Szczesny is just a shocking goalkeeper, no wonder he has been dropped by Wenger in league matches. Really feel for Federici though, I can see why he was in tears after the game now. Heartbreaking for Reading no doubt.

iclark2400 I feel like you just proved everyones point. Szczesney doesn't get a strong enough contact on a deflected shot and despite reacting quickly to block it, it goes over the line. Arsenal still win the game: Useless piece of shit, deserves to be dropped. Federici lets a weak and poorly placed shot right through his legs to cost his team the match and send them packing from the FA Cup: You just have to feel sorry for him. Truly tragic and heartbreaking.

Its a contact sport and wenger complemented the physical presence and pressure shown by reading and said it was tougher than expected. He didnt complain about fouls i suspect he had a few words with the world class players who took 120mins to win a game that on paper wasn't a contest
