When I first caught up to One Piece, I was about 10 and the series was still in the Luffy vs Lucci fight at Enies Lobby. I read the talk page for a Wikipedia article about One Piece's characters, and there was one guy fiercely arguing that Saul's status should be listed as "unknown" instead of "deceased", because Aokiji killed him with an attack called "Ice Time Capsule", so surely he was secretly sparing Saul and he'd thaw out later and be revealed as alive. I wonder how that guy feels now.

To be honest, they should have done. It was obvious from the moment it was introduced that Raftel would be in the second half of the Grand Line. When Crocus talks about it, the map showing the route goes right through the Red Line; and they hadn't done that yet. Oda had even said at this point that Fishman Island is halfway across the Grand Line in an SBS. And at the time, they'd taken out 1/7 Warlords. At the time, they wouldn't have known that 3/7 would turn out to be allies; and two of them are linked to two major crew members (Zoro/Mihawk and Nami/Jimbei) so it would have been reasonable to expect Baroque-works scale arcs for each of them. Their theory also completely bypasses what happens to the Admirals and Sengoku; who we'd already been introduced to at this point. I remember back at the time people were shocked when they heard One Piece was only halfway done at Marineford or something; and I was like "what? of course they're only halfway done, they haven't passed the Red Line yet". For some reason people were just blind to the scope of One Piece when it was right in front of their faces.

He respects Kuina because she was stronger than him and died before he beat her, her being a woman was incidental. He doesn't want to fight women partly due to his trauma but partly because they're too weak and super rare. I'm trying to remember, was there another female swordswoman besides Tashigi? Like Zoro's opponents tend to be either groups of faceless fodder or considered the second strongest of whatever group Luffy's going against. I have to reread the Monet fight, but in my memory of it Zoro did not come off looking good. I don't' remember Zoro ever treating an opponent like that before or since and the only real difference between her and a lot of Zoro's other opponents is that she's a woman so it's hard not to side eye him. If she's too weak just defeat her, don't do the crap he ended up doing. I wish Oda had just let Tashigi beat her when she stepped in but Oda was in some weird 'let's crap on Tashigi as being berated as weak during Punk Hazard thing' so of course he wouldn't let her get the win. She gets the final blow, but not the win.

Not about fighting, but he refuses to cause proper damage to them. He refused to cut Monet with Haki. With your Miss. Monday example, notice how he didn't use his sword on her. There were other women there that he also didn't use the sharp side of his sword on. He has only ever properly cut down men. In skypiea he asked Enel how he could use lightning on Robin because she's a woman as if that should matter among people fighting to the death. Zoro might not be as extreme as Sanji, but people need to stop thinking he doesn't treat women differently because he absolutely does.

So the Pirate Summit is an ancient mistranslation that sparked a lot of bad theories. In the page where Ace gives Luffy his vivre card, he says something like "Lets meet again at the top", ie when we are competing for Pirate King. The actual literal words used were "Lets meet at the pirates summit" in that translation, though. A lot of people interpreted this to mean that there was some sort of pirate meeting, like a pirate Reverie or something, and that Luffy and Ace would meet up there, since summit is used to mean a meeting of a lot of different people sometimes.

I remember seing a theory about Ussop back then about him staying behind at the end of water seven and getting replaced by the weird anti-sanji guy of the Galeera company (The guy with the ropes), because EVERYONE thought he'd be the next team member because of how much of his fighting style and character we saw right out of the gate. Nobody had Franky on the mind as next crewmember. The thing is One Piece isnt anti war. Every revolution in One Piece is armed. The revolutionary army even gives out weapons to normal people. So the one Piece being a big weapon isnt that illogical. The last Chapters even revealed that who has the one Piece can control the fate of the world and a strong weapon would be my best guess for this

Anti-war doesn't necessarily mean pacifist. One Piece is anti-war in the sense that it puts positivity and optimism on a pillar, while highlighting the horrors of war (even when justified) - Nika, and by extension Luffy, isn't The Liberator because he punches people hard and gives people guns, but because he restores people hope and lives as a shining image of freedom. That's why the gun theory is so unlikely in my opinion, that's just a means to an end, it doesn't actually reflect the core philosophy of One Piece. After all, can you truly call something a tool of peace and freedom when it can just as well be used to destroy everything? I think it'll be something with unambigously positive connotations. Especially when we know that the thing in question made Roger laugh out loud, i don't think he's the guy to roll on his stomach because of a big nuke, and even if he was, luffy certainly isn't Besides that, the Revolutionaries and Dragon are not meant to be the embodiment of One Piece's ideology, they are pretty clearly portrayed as a sorrow necessity in a world that couldn't (yet) rely on a near divine liberator, a reflection of how people in real life, in the best case scenario, deal with living under a horrible oppressive regime like the World Government. This is further hightened by the fact that they really haven't managed to do anything in the grand scheme of things, they canonically liberated few islands, some of which got retaken and/or erased from the map after, and saved some people from prison. Luffy did twice as much in just few years with his crew of 8-ish deranged lunatics, half of which can barely fight

To be fair, it wasn't until Post Enies Lobby, where the New World and the Four Emperors were introduced as a thing. It's also at that time that Dragon is revealed to be Luffy's father. So I don't blame this guy for his outlandish progression of the story from our retrospective view.

I think my favorite theory from back in the day was the idea that raftel can't be found without the ponaglyphs was that it was a literal raft and certain conditions needed to be met to raise it from the seabed.

Honestly, that first theory was cooking. In the end it's really not that different from what we got. It just has way better pacing. Like, yeah, now that I think about it, Ennies Lobby would have been a *perfect* time to learn about the truth about the ancient weapons and the WG. The faith this man had in Oda to not make everything take as long as possible...it's heartbreaking, man. RIP.

I once read a theory about someone saying Kaido will kill Chopper (for some reason) and Zoro will then kill Kaido (also Kaido being Zoro's dad was part of it, too).... That was way back during Punk Hazard.

Ok the bathing suit is a bit far-fetched but the One Piece might actually be something that allows devil fruits eaters to swim again… because Luffy said the Pirate King will have the most freedom while being unable to swim prevents him from being totally free….. but that wouldn’t make 100% sense because that would mean a pirate who didn’t eat a devil fruit would not benefit from the One Piece. Idk it might be something like that

While Marineford did a good job of showing how much of a overwhelming victory the world govt won against whitbeard, the events of Egghead solidified in my mind that Whitebeard always knew it was a suicide mission. They lost without Garp and Sengoku being involved. Thise two were probably two of the strongest marines in that battle.

So I will bring this tehory just for fun. A lot of theories talk about "How is Roger related to Luffy?" Was he his father. But I think there is nothing to say that Dragon isnot his real father. But there is still a way to work something out. Because it wouldn't be farfetched to beleive that Roger was Garp's age. And therefore, it would make sense he had a kid around Dragon's age. (But he liked ladies, so of course he also had a son around Lulffy's age). So here I declare, Gol D. Roger is Luffy's OTHER grandfather.

i watched one piece anime in like 2006 the first time, when dragon was introduced in loguetown and shank's haki moment during luffy's flashback happened and mihawk defeated zoro with a small knife, i wondered how long this story gonna be cos there were things and powers the straw hats were oblivious about and definitely need tons of time to reach there.

wasnt in the fandom at the time, but I saw some old comments, it wasn't everything but from what I could find it was a relatively common 'beloved character dies' deal within the fandom, which is surprising because Oda kills characters sparingly so when they do die it has a big impact, but there were still the commons "This writing is trash. Oda clearly doesn't know how to write. How dare he. I'm dropping" and its thousands of variants, people coping saying it was gonna be a fakeout despite the Vivre Card burning, and a LOT, and I mean A LOT of Akainu hate, idk about the manga in this part, but people were complaining about plot armor and how it was forced and how Akainu should've died. And people calling the death forced because Ace turned around and all, so it was more of hatred than depression. You know, the cope.
