Just replacing the flues and not the fire tubes? I thought both had to be replaced at the same time.
@AmericanSteamRailroad Жыл бұрын
Hi Lem, great question! Actually, per the inspection rules, a person must do an internal inspection of the boiler during the 1,472 day inspection, and the only way to do it is to remove enough tubes and flues to allow full access inside of the boiler. If the flues are still above the minimum allowable thickness, they can remain inside of the boiler, or be reused if removed by welding new ends on. The same goes for the tubes. This practice is known as "safe-ending" the tubes or flues. We decided not to safe-end the removed tubes, as the welding labor cost made purchasing new tubes almost as cost effective, and with a quicker lead time. After the ones you’re working on now are operational, do you plan on restoring another? You’re doing a great job with 2100. Maybe bno museum should hire you to cosmetically restore 2101

Hello, we do have our Frisco 2-8-2 no. 1352 lined up next, we still need to raise $100,000 to move it from IL to OH.

@@AmericanSteamRailroad just looked up a picture of it. That one looks like it will take a lot of work. It will be nice to see another frisco run again

You guys doing a great job of the restoration of 2100 and a have a question what kind of whistle does 2100 will wear after the restoration is finish?
@AmericanSteamRailroad Жыл бұрын
One of our generous members gave $2,700 for an exact brass reproduction Reading 6 Chime passenger whistle to be made, which the 2100 wore during some of the Reading Rambles in the 1960's.
