I can't' believe all the components that go into a steam locomotive and how much work is involved restoring one. I donated 2 tubes and will donate more this year.

Hmm. Maybe get in touch with the Reading and Northern to double head the 2100 and the 2102 on a freight to see if you can break a record for the Reading and Northern for steam hauled freight.

So if there were to be any potential double heading events, it would be next year. Ok. Time to save! What if a crack is discovered during the ulna-sound testing, how would that be fixed?

Not really. It would have to be a while before a doubleheader happens, as 2100 would most likely run on other railroads first, plus the logistics in getting 2100 to the Reading and Northern. Also keep in mind that it may take until the end of the year before 2100 is finished, if not into the first half of 2024. Time will tell.

Hello, excellent question about cracking, as it does happen. Depending on the item and the severity of the crack, it can either be (A) ground out and refilled in with weld, or (B) the cracked area completely removed and replaced with new metal. For the 2 small areas on the firebox outer wrapper sheet, and a small area on the center thermic syphon that had slight cracking, ASR did completely cut those areas out and replace them with new metal as was shown in past video updates, as we want all repairs to last as long as possible. Hello Chad, plans are for the 2100 to remain in Cleveland, at the Midwest Railway Preservation Society. She will need separated from her tender when we place her in the roundhouse.

Hello, the 2100 can be running in 12-18 months, based on how quickly the remaining $170,000 in funds can be raised.

In the video, he says they hope to steam her up in 2023. I think that is a bit optimistic. 2024 is more likely. When she does fire up, it would be nice to see her run on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic RR through the national park. It is the closest railroad that might be interested in running steam. It is probably less than two miles on the CSX CV&T branch to get to CVSR. It would really be great if the 2100 could come to CVSR for their annual Steam in The Valley event. We could see the 2100 and 765 doubleheading on the same train.

Man...! What ass / back and hand busting work this is. Oh! and guess what, we have technology on our side. Don't forget how they did it back from day one to the mid 1950's. But what's "funny" here is, I haven't heard ONE complaint from those who actually "split" the boiler, (etc.), open and bring the thing back to life, (it's almost supernatural). God Speed to those who's human physical health is 2nd to getting these beasts on the road again...THANK YOU, (and I've never been so serious in my life).

HI Jim, thank you for acknowledging the work we, and all others with steam operations, have to do. Many times we use the same methods and tools that were done "back in the day", and yes it is usually a workout! We have a wonderful group of volunteers, including many younger members, who gladly are doing very dirty, hard work in the boiler, with determination and pride that would make a veteran steam railroader proud. We here at ASR also put Safety First, and make sure that all members are wearing their PPE for the tasks they are assigned. Glad you are enjoying the videos.
