"calcifer, what if I forget him someday" really hit me. my baby kitty and friend of 14 years just passed away at the beginning of the month, and everyday I worry I'll forget what his fur felt like, or his purrs sounded like, or his little adorable face looked like. everyday I remind myself that just loving him is enough, even if my brain can't recreate every moment, I am still more whole as a human being for having loved him.

Never Let Me Go is one of my favourite books ever and made me fall in love with Ishiguro's writing. I just love how he plays with the unreliability of the narrator. It is not that the narrator is deliberately unreliable, but the way they (are forced to) experience the world around them is incomplete or completely different from how other characters in their world are experiencing it. As a reader you are forced to pick up on how their world really works through the reactions of the characters around the narrator and that is such a unique reading experience. It was for me in Never let me go, Klara and the Sun and The Remains of the Days anyway :)

I love the movie Your Name. The creator of the film, Makoto Shinkai, is probably my favourite animator. The way he does water and light is so beautiful. I highly recommend checking out a lot of his other films. I love Studio Ghibli films, and I know they're different, but I prefer the animation style from Makoto Shinkai. I love his film Weathering With You.

Recently found you. I'm in New Zealand. I'm in my sixties. I often spend too much time bumming through you tube. Periodically I search for books. And low and behold i came across a font of information amongst the rabble of "READ A HUNDRED BOOKS A YEAR!" (More like the synopsis ifn y'ask me) Im getting away from trying to read more, by reading faster, and not understanding, or retaining a damn word i just read. Having been around a while, I tend to get bored with the whole pattern of boy meets girl etc, someone gets shot, disappears or they have affairs. Or both. Anyway, I usually go for thrillers, psycho. Bored with police procedural. I sometimes feel, if i could have my life over again, I'd have taken a lit degree. Problem is, knowing what i know now, and appreciate about what i should have done, well anyway, it's too damn late now im retired. Life was more about working and paying the bills and women and children etc. This in mind, i find myself going to the classics. Wanting to read something that works the old grey matter. Just wanted to say, i really get a lot out of your sitdown hauls, bookshelf clearing, unboxing etc. Books that tend to be a little weighter than the fluff you see on some "book hauls". Btw, we live mobile. Living the dream. We bought a NZD100,000 caravan three years ago and much as id love to get another book shelf, it's not a good idea as you have to haul those books around. That said, i keep a box on the back of my truck. Has around 50 books in it. When we come across a book swap camp ground, or thrift shop, charity etc, we leave a couple, take a couple. Given the weight of carrying books around, i have a couple of kindles, one very new oasis, and one very old faithful Paperwhite three, as well as the kobo libra 2 and a clara 2e. Main reason being, sometimes one's deals can be better the other. Between those and audible, i have a couple of thousand ebooks and about 200 audible books. As well as kobo audio books and audible. Anyhow, enough. Back to Virginia wolf. Anyway, keep going...

Regarding my reading marathon, I managed to complete just three books in a span of one day and seven hours. These books were "Stone Butch Blues" by Leslie Feinberg, "Fish in a Tree" by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, and "Flowers for Algernon" (the novel) by Daniel Keyes. I had to revisit "Stone Butch Blues" later though.

I really liked Never Let Me Go, although I didn’t think the characters were particularly memorable. It was very melancholic to me, and the fact that not much of note happened really added to the theme/concept. In many ways these characters led very ordinary lives which makes it interesting to liken to real life and to the secret revealed at the end.

i think a book can take very different meanings for each person and that's why our opinions can also vary so much on the same media. i personally didn`t interpret Never Let Me Go as a social criticism of having a predetermined role, work culture, our system, education and school. For me the message took an entirely different form and I think that is always so amazing to realize about reading, how each of us can internalize something in our own way. Now hopefully this doesn`t sound arrogant, I`m not great with words and English isn`t my mother tongue, but I believe that this book doesn`t stand strong enough or original as criticism to the current system, and that might be one of the reasons you didn`t love it as much as Carolyn, who saw it from a different perspective, closer to the way I also understood it. I personally believe it was more of a delivery of questions on morally sensitive matters, awareness/ignorance of fate and how that impacts the course of our life, the contrast between the mundane and the tragic, as well as the theme of Life as in the creation of life, what makes us human, what gives us our human rights or what sort of narrative could take them from us. There is no right or wrong way to interpret a book of course! I just thought I`d share my thoughts, because even though I also struggled to get into the book and the one thing that kept me going was also the need to get answers, I still think about it a lot and it has left a mark on me. (I gave it 3.5/5 stars, rounded up to 4 on Goodreads, for reference.) Anyway, lots of love to both of you, you are my two favorite people to watch on this platform edit: also yeah I am crying too seeing you cry and asking "what if I forget one day?" ok i am destroyed without even reading the book 😭

Hello lovely ladies. I did an Ishiguro marathon during the pandemic & if u are puzzled by NLMG then u should read his The Unconsoled. It’s so bizarre. My faves of his writings are A Pale View of Hills, TRotD. Least faves would be NLMG and An Artist of the Floating World. Do try The Unconsoled. Do a buddy read and then a review. I would love to see your reactions 😆.

This video was so cute , first of all you guys start it off with trying to imitate my accent , which was adorable to say the least 😂😂 I do possess a rather thick Dublin accent and sound a bit like Colin Farrell or Imelda may. When you said about school feeling like it goes on forever , brought me straight back to how I felt back in my days of school being the “red brick slaughter house”. when it ends though and you blink the years go by so fast that you think to yourself , that was an entirely different lifetime. Its so weird and also I’m 37 and still need to have pimple patches in my life 😂😂😂 ❤ two of you guys have beautiful skin! It’s lovely to see two friends being so comfortable in each others presence and just enjoying time together x All the best ❤
