I would love to see more videos regarding books , however the big question is : “ How do you manage not to feel overwhelmed and get rid of the feeling of missing out? So many books out here, When I read a book it offen happens that I catch my mind wondering: “did I choose the best book, to read? Etc “ hope you get the idea....
@evalinj37404 жыл бұрын
Hahah I'm also like that...a perfectionist 🙄 It ruins my life! Just try to understand that of course you did not choose the best book nor is that the point of reading, but in each book you will find out something helpful that you did not know before :-)
@a911704 жыл бұрын
If you enjoy the book, enjoy it with your heart and try not to think about the mark you'll give it. I try not to read best sellers, they are usually overrated. Once I could never put a book down until I finished it. Nowadays, if I don't enjoy it too much, I skip to the last chapter and read the end. Life's too short. Read only what you enjoy.

I used to be OCD like this and realized it doesn't matter. You're not going to be on your deathbed saying "Damn I wish I read that book that one time."

I know exactly what you mean, but think about it like this. Imagine you are given an amazing, scrumptious chocolate cake, one of the best that you have EVER eaten. Would you spend the time eating it wondering if you have chosen the best dessert, or if it is really worth it when there are so many other desserts out there?? No. You don't. You simply enjoy the delicious taste and texture of the cake and enjoy it for what it is. This should be the same when you are reading a book. If you find your mind wandering, then it isn't a good enough book!

I definitely do use goodreads. at the start of each year, I set a reading challenge for myself and it really motivates me to read more. for example for 2020 my aim is 50 books which for me is a challenge since I am a medical student who also works part-time but it thrills me every time I tick a book as "read" on Goodreads and give it a rating. I also use it to choose what books I want to read by reading the reviews and it helps keep a digital copy of my "to read list" as well as my "read list" so that I do not forget any of them

Hi Jenny! As you are learning Spanish maybe you would enjoy my favorite Spanish author, Carlos Ruiz Zafón. He has many novels and all of them are fantastic but my personal favorite is "The shadow of the wind". Barcelona. 1945. The sun in just about to shine and eight - year- old Daniel Sempere is incapable of remembering his mother face. His father decided that is time for him to see the cemetery of forgotten books. The novel will guide you through the late teenage years and early adulthood of this boy while he tries to protect his loved ones, to discover his mother secrets and to deal with the obscure skeletons in the cupboard that started that sunrise morning of his childhood.

You can make lists of whatever you want or organize it in a way that makes sense to you (f.e. some people do it by genre, but I do it for centuries since I like classics a lot, by rating, etc) you can keep track per year of what you read, how much you liked it, to see recommendations and reviews, to follow your favourite authors, see what your friends are reading and their reviews... so many little things!

I love goodreads, mostly because of the yearly reading challenge! This is the main thing that motivates me to read more and holds accountable for how much I read. From practical point of view, it also ties in with your amazon account, so if you read a lot of kindle books, your progress is automatically tracked (personally I don't use this feature much, I buy ebooks from other sources). GR and audiobooks have made me fall in love with reading again and reconnect with my book-filled childhood. Indeed, I do read several books at once, BUT I also think that this should be done with moderation, because having too many of them started kinda perpetuates the myth of multitasking: it's hard to focus on one book and details of what you read kinda wither away. Something to think about.

I love using good reads! They have the option to challenge your reading for the year; I chose to read 35 books this year because I only read 5 last year. I then track every book I'm reading at the same time, the percentage of how much I've read this far, and when I finish, it puts there in my challenge. I'm reading the 13th book now. Also, I got a Kindle and since I had a reading wishlist it helped me to remember which ebooks to buy. It's a really good app.

Lol I'm that person that reads only one book at a time unless they're completely different genres. I'll read two books at the same time if one is nonfiction and the other fiction. The main genre I'm interested in is romance fantasy fiction, and i love to get immersed into the world and characters lives - it might sound strange to say that I feel that's best done when I only read one book at w time but that's kind of how I feel. I don't tend to read multiple books at a time, as I'd rather not divide my focus and may get lost in plots and characters. But I can read paper/Kindle books and also listen to a different audiobook at the same time. I think we are similar in the fact I tend to listen to audiobooks for enjoyment, I get very distracted with non-fiction on audio for example. I've recently found out that I also prefer dramatisations rather than regular audiobooks. I'd love to see more book videos from you: book recommendations, fav authors. Apart from recording titles and their scores, do you also take other notes on the books you read? I've been keeping a book journal for a couple of years and it helps me to process what I read and also remember better. One author recommendation that springs to my mind is Yoko Ogawa. I've read all her books translated into English and can't wait for more. I read 75 books last year and aiming for more this year, but always curious about tips people have about reading more. Thank you:)

my best recommendation is the goodreads app honestly! There you can set your own reading challenge every year, for example 'this year I wanna read 40 books', and then you can always add the books you're reading and update your reading process! In the first year I did this challenge I read 100 books because it kept me really motivated and I wanted to reach my goal! :D

I use goodreads and find it really good to keep track of my reading. I'm used to having lists and notebooks for everything but I have to admit goodreads makes it easier for me when it comes to tracking books I have read and books I want to read. I also really enjoy visiting other people's profiles there as it helps with finding new interesting books I would not notice otherwise. The only thing I don't like is their rating system as I find it too simple. I find 1-5 starts not enough as some books are more complex than others (you can't even give half starts, like 3.5). If you decide to create a page let us know, I would really like to see what books you really enjoy.

I personally use Goodreads primarily to track the number of books I'm reading in a year since it ends up providing a really cool time capsule of my reading life all in one place. I also have a spreadsheet this year and one year I ended up writing it all down but I never go back to those things later because it's all in Goodreads (been on it since I was 11.)

My Favourite book that I’ve read 3 times is Jaws by Peter Benchley, I think it’s because the first time I read it was when I was a younger teenager and I live by the Sea, so I just found it made me more excited about living by the sea (a bit macabre? Maybe...) but it’s just such a great book!

I recommend for the summer On the Iliad by Rachel Bespaloff (non fiction) Notebook of a Return to my Native Land by Aymé Césaire (poetry) Edogawa Rampo's short stories (thriller) In Praise of Shadows by Jun'ichirô Tanizaki (non fiction) Reveries of a Solitary Walker by Jean-Jacques Rousseau (non-fiction) Sentimental Education by Gustave Flaubert (fiction) Leopardi's short stories (parables) If you do graphic novels, then try Kylooe by Little Thunder or Hugo Pratt's Corto, you can never waste time on Osamu Tezuka or Jirô Taniguchi.

Interesting topic! I can only read passionately, I need a book that can keep me on the edge, a book that I can't put down untill I finished it. The rest is not for me :-)

I love to read more than anything else. I keep a wish list of books I would like to read. Love that it is rainy today because I can curl up and relax and enjoy reading. Especially during these crazy times when we all need an little time to escape from the news and reality. I feel like I am thriving in quarantine because I read. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on how you read, I would love to see your list of favorite books.

Amazing video Jenny, thank you! I’d love to see you make more bookish videos! The subject of books and reading is underrated and you do it really well. Also, I really think you should give Goodreads another try. It takes a while to get the hang of, but it has so many awesome features that record keepers and list lovers will really enjoy. You can put reading challenges, directly transfer your kindle highlights to your GR review, update and track your reading, keep track of books you own or wishlists, scan your covers to add the exact edition that you’re reading to your profile, make many different shelves, explore topics and lists, keep private notes as well as reviews, and so many other awesome pictures. If you do come back on Goodreads, would love to follow you there and see what you’re reading. In any case, please make more bookish stories! xx

I would love to see more book videos! Perhaps your all-time favourite books, or books that have changed your life (maybe split into sections; spiritually/in relationships/in self-education) xx

That's a great idea to have many books read. I kind of did it sometimes, but never really felt good about it, rather guilty that I read too slowly and I am messy. Thank you! How eye-opening this is! I can actually read more books at the same time and feel relaxed about it 😎

Would love a video on how to avoid distraction/calm down your mind to read. Do you have any tips? I find even when I’m reading a book I enjoy i have a really hard time concentrating.

I think you might really enjoy Samantha Schweblin short stories, in Spanish the name is Pájaros en la boca, but I’m pretty sure there is already a translation. They are pretty surreal and insightful stories.

just wanted to give you a tip for a reading app i swear by (i didn’t get along with goodreads either...) which is Bookly! it lets you categorise and snap photos of all your books (brilliant when you have 300+ plus books like me and forget which ones/ editions you own when you browse the bookstore...) and lets you make lists of your books. but most importantly and the best part is the reading feature: you can press play and log how long you read, which then calculate how long you’ll spend on a book. you can also put their sounds (rain, train, busy cafe etc) in the background which i find help my mind wander. and like you, i like to highlight and pay attention to paragraphs, and in this app you can log quotes, new words for each book so it’s easy to come back to and they even have a “picture to word” feature so you don’t have to spend a long time writing it down by hand! it’s brilliant, and it’s very simple and user friendly. definitely worth checking out, love from a fellow scandinavian 🤍

I love goodreads, i forced myself to use it this year and i really like it as it keeps me organised. I have about 6 books i've started within the past 2 years and have yet to finish but i always seem to get 50 pages in and then get distracted. I've read 65 books this year so far and that seems very insane to me but most of it is audio books. I love to reread books espically easy ones and i have a cycle of audio books ive listend to on repeat forre about 3 years that everyone but me is sick of listening. I think ive listend to Nancy Drew about 30 times but ive never really had a "reading routine"
