I feel like the reason why people hate these games is the same reason I love them. I'll never forget my first time playing DS1 and feeling so lost... not knowing where to go and having to figure out the combat mechanics. No maps, no hand holding, and than eventually defeating my first boss. The feeling of overcoming one obstacle and then another with no one holding your hand or telling you where to go or what to do...

I feel like the quests could use a little more direction considering I’ve had to look up how to do most of them but I understand what you mean, it’s awesome when you randomly stumble apon a boss or some really good loot just because you took the time to explore, and the satisfaction of finally kicking the ass of the boss that’s been tossing you around like a squeaky toy for the past hour is a pretty good feeling.

Never played a souls game until Elden ring, had a few similar beliefs at first but after awhile you get the hang of things and the games a lot more fun. I like its free roam capabilities and I still agree that it is hard to find objectives sometimes but it also lets the player have more of a choice on what they think they should focus on versus other games forcing the player to go towards a certain objective. Now I’m almost at 60 hours and absolutely loving the game.

Yeah if you've played a bunch of souls, it's definitely a little easier. Tons of options, summons, buffs. I could still see it being hard for new souls players though!

@@cowrampage Oh yeah, definitely. Tho I think it falls on the player, to READ UP on the game. I mean, my gf was hearing hype of the game. Read up on it, and immediately knew it was a "Rage inducing game" lol

@@cowrampage Yeah And to be honest, I prefer this style to the other. Meaning, make it not as hard, but give a TON of options and exploring. Also, my biggest joy of this game that I wish they did in other games, was HAVING A MAP!! Never knew how much that in itself, makes the game a ton easier lol

I think the problem is with this generation they are not up to this kind of games like those games are new to them I hardly doubt that one of them played Bloodborne or sekiro.

I am 44 years old, so close to death- but i remember the old times without internet where you buy a game and a have to find out the most stuff (especially adventure/rpg) by yourself, sometimes you are lucky and Friends play the same game and have some tips while you try to find out what to do with that damn rubberchicken, dont get eaten by a scavenger or beat a godlike tentacles. you dont want to know how often i drew maps on my own or wrote down ingame codes. i really had an folder for such stuff.

This is my first dark souls game and I love it, but this is the type of game where you have to put time into it to learn the game to actually understand it and have fun. Once you understand it it’s an amazing game probably one of the best, but if you don’t have the time to learn the game or experience in other games like this then don’t play it. When I first started playing Elden ring it irritated me that the game just leaves you out there to do whatever with no guidance but now that i understand the game I appreciate that aspect of the game. The thing is about Elden ring is it requires you to put time in, have patience and actually think about what you’re doing. I love that but I had to put the game down for almost an entire year because I had too much going on in my life to play it. And there’s nothing wrong with that but don’t shit on the game because you don’t have the time or energy to play it.

Well said! It's kind of like jumping into an FPS or a fighting game and saying it's bad cause you jumped in, didn't bother learning it and got destroyed. Some games take time and a little skill to learn, but if you have the patience, they can be very rewarding.

All these people who are like, “they don’t tell you how to play” there’s literally a tutorial area, the ghost in the cave tells you where to go and every mechanic is explained. They even tell you about guard counters and jumping attacks… Ubisoft has destroyed peoples’ perception of open world games. I didn’t use a guide or anything, took 120 hours for my first platinum. Was so good and so fun I created more PSN profiles just to platinum it again. Also the second to last reviewer is on crack or something, one of the biggest changes between DS and Elden Ring are the Stakes of Marika which literally respawn you next to the boss, “run 5 miles and clear out trash mobs” wtf is he talking about?

I think people just read what others say without forming an actual opinion. If you played and taken your time, you would of noticed all the tutorials, stake of Marika, ect. People also just love to complain

Sometimes it is just ridiculous to read the lazy comments. If holding gamepad, learn and explore the game is too much of a asking, i think better for them to hit the couch, bite some chips while watching Lord of the Ring.

I can't really deny the fact that they didn't gave us objective log neither did they give how the status worked ( for which i had to watch a ton of videos to pick my build [dex/arc] ) also they didn't explain the weapon scaling and the bosses are hard its true!! What they need is just patience nothing else have patience you will surely beat the game ( I am new to souls games this is my first game i am at final boss under 50 hours I think it should've taken me more if I was impatience]

It's gonna sound like a Stupid copout answer, but that's just how the games are designed to be. It's your game, your adventure. Go make some mistakes and figure things out. It's definitely not a style a lot of people enjoy and I can't really blame them for this feeling. But once somebody gets it, they get it.

it's actually very forgiving in this one. The Stakes of Marika save a lot of time from runbacks. Tons of the Stakes are right infront of the fog gates.

Elden ring ist my first from Software. I spent 200+ hours on the game, including pvp. I love the game, the world, the music, the art style, most of the boss designs( excluding the twins and malenia) But I still think the gameplay and controls feel clunky and the hit boxes are weird. The game starters a lot even though I m playing on a rtx 2070. Many weapons are too weak and some are just op. I hope they fix these problems so I can come back for some pvp.

Here's what most people find bad about elden ring: too hard, malenia, no guidance, strong bosses. Here's why: most people who put these reviews down are the people who get a ton of good gear and levels and get killed easily, this is because they have barely any time in the game and don't take the time to learn the attacks and how to dodge them
