I added Baumgartner and Long Island to my TBR. I read Brooklyn when it first came out. Yes, Paul Auster was mentioned in Table For Two. He was the author who found his forged autograph in the bookstore and went to the police. I’m really enjoying Table For Two. I read Demon Copperhead when it came out and loved it so much. I gave it 5 stars. The way she wrote this novel was like the reader is walking with Demon through his story. I still think about it a year later. I hope you enjoy it and looking forward to hear your review of it.

Met Colm Toibin recently at Parnassus books in Nashville. He came all the way from Ireland. Read Long Island in 2 days. It's a doozy

You met him at Parnassus?! Cool!!! By doozy, I hope that meant you enjoyed Long Island. 😁 I think it would be a great book club book. And that end… 😩!

I haven't read any of these yet, but I do have Demon Copperhead on my shelf. I even ordered the edition from Blackwell's because I loved that cover so much. I love beautiful covers and if they have gold on them even better lol. I will get to it soon...anxious to hear what you think!

Teri, I think you would enjoy Brooklyn and Long Island (which is even better, imo)! I'll have to google the UK cover to Demon. And I have since finished it and will be talking about it soon, but one word: masterpiece. But it's a bit more complicated than one word. :)

Watched the Brooklyn movie years ago and enjoyed it. Glad to hear the book is great too

I need to watch the movie! Since you enjoyed it, you could go straight into Long Island if that’s of interest. I think of the two, it is the better book.

Hi Susan! I’ve read many Paul Auster books around 2006-2010 and I they were 3-4 stars for most of them so I don’t know what to tell you since our past history of « different taste »! 😅😂

We chatted about Demon Copperhead. I dnf'd it. I knew too many people like the characters when I lived in Appalachia... couldn't stomach it. I heard it's a great ending. I just couldn't get there....sigh 😔

I am so happy you enjoyed “Baumgartner”! I have also read his novel “Invisible” which is completely different and marvelous. Have you read Jonathan Franzen’s book “Crossroads”? It was published a few years ago and is the first in a trilogy. Based on your comments on what you love in a novel, I highly recommend. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. As you know,I am in the minority regarding praise of “Demon Copperhead.” I did love “The Poisonwood Bible.” Looking forward to reading “Long Island.””Table for Two” does mention Paul Auster in the story”The Ballad of Timothy Touchett.”

Thank you for the Baumgartner rec, Joni! I've not read Crossroads...but plan to...someday. Hopefully you'll enjoy Long Island. I think anyone who liked Brooklyn, will like/love Long Island.

It's such a long time since I've read 'Brooklyn' I think I should re-read it before the next instalment.

No need to re-read unless of course you *want* to, which would just add to the fun of Long Island!
