I have 'We all want impossible things' by Catherine Newman. Maybe 'Sandwich' might be even more my thing, me being nearing that age and in that position. I've been reading 'Instructions for a heatwave.' by Maggie O'Farrell at the beach this weekend. On the way back home I stopped at Rev Gilbert White home in Selborne - Hampshire UK (naturalist born in the 1700s). There was a portrait of his female relative. I was struck by the information alongside it. She had 10 children between the age of 30-56. The poor woman, I bet she thought she wouldn't be still having them at 56!

The poor woman is right!! 😩 I’m on hold at the library for We All Want, but yes, please give Sandwich a try!!

I had the same feeling about Twyford Code. Almost DNF’d but kept hoping it would get better and I don’t even remember the ending.

Hi Susan! (I’ve been watching all your videos but have been behind on commenting 😅). I’m so happy you’re loving The Lord of the Rings 😍 My favorite is the third one because I love the people from Rohan and my two favorite chapters in the trilogy are in book 3, but I agree that nothing beats the coziness of The Shire. As much as I love elves and the Rohirrim, I myself am totally a hobbit 😅❤ You’ve intrigued me about Shark Heart 👀 (Also, because I’m behind on commenting I hadn’t gotten a chance to tell you, but it seems like you’re feeling better, hopefully you are ❤️)

I *am* feeling better; thank you!! 🩷🩵 As for LOTR, I’m looking forward to the final book! Thank you for your enthusiasm for the series while you’ve been on booktube! You may be the most passionate LOTR reviewer that I’ve seen!! 🥳😃📚

Excellent reviews Susan!!! I am so curious about Shark Heart and enthusiastically added it to my tbr! I am almost finished with Les Miserables...wow, took me soooo long to get through it but I did enjoy it. It is the only book I would recommend the abridged version to others because of all the history and tangents. Reminded me of Tolstoy :-)

CONGRATULATIONS on finishing Les Mis!! That's an accomplishment!! (I have been putting it off because of the tangents it's famous for.) I've been recommending Shark Heart to everyone I see in real life too. Kind of feel like I've stuck my neck out on that one, but I loved it so much, I can't help myself. :) Thank you for watching, Teri! Hope you have a great rest of the week!

I have to admit, I skipped over the part of you talking about Sandwich... I have it written down to pick up a copy soon. Shark Heart, A Love Story YES PLEASE, onto the list it goes... I'm wondering how it will compare to books like "The Vegetarian" by Han Kang or "The Pisces" by Melissa Broder. I will come back to this video to comment further (right now I'm reading "Violin" by Ann Rice and in love with it again)

Currently reading “Caledonian Road”by Andrew O’Hagan. It has been described as a “Dickensian yam of a celebrity writer heading for a fall.” Comparisons have also been made to “Bonfire of the Vanities.” Apparently the book is currently all the rage in London. It is wickedly snarky.Also,reading “When Women Ran Fifth Avenue-Glamour and Power at the Dawn of American Fashion” by Julie Satow. Just picked up my copy of “The Editor” by Sara B. Franklin.

I enjoyed your reviews. I got The Secret History, Circe and The Sea of Tranquility from the library, per your recommendations. I enjoyed The Secret History quite a bit. I'm in the middle of Circe, trying to get through it actually. I try to expand my reading but it's really not my type. It has started to get a little more interesting for me after the first half. I am interested in mythology even though I don't know much about it but I guess I'm not into fantasy. I recently read Piranesi too, from a book tuber's recommendation, and maybe you'd like that but that was about the same kind of experience as Circe for me. I still have The Sea of Tranquility to read. I hate to be so negative but I have to say I just don't understand why the J.R.Tolkein books are so popular. I read The Hobit and The Lord of the Rings but didn't like them at all; didn't like the movies either. I'm really impressed by how much reading you can do in one month. I'm slow.
@RoadReads6 ай бұрын
I loved Piranesi!! 😃 And re: Circe, I can definitely understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea of tea. No shame in DNF’g it!! Maybe Sea of Tranquility will work for you. It starts off slow (at least it was for me), but then once things started moving into place, I was SO in it!!
