I'm reading The Forsyte Saga right now and enjoying it quite a bit. It's not a real fast read but some of it is a bit sarcastic which makes it humurous. I had watched the series on PBS years ago and, even though he's not supposed to be a sympathetic character, my favorite character in both the series and the book so far is Soames. I think he is really the main character of the book too. It's the kind of book I like to read aloud so that really makes it a slow read but I am enjoying it quite a bit. I'm also reading Learning from Leonardo by Fritjof Capra and I have a to say I am disappointed in this one. I'm maybe halfway through and it's just so dry and, actually, boring. I loved The Tao of Physics by Capra so I thought I'd love this one but not so far. I am interested though and will definitely finish it.

I guess I'm the only reader who feels this way but I don't like any of the J.R. Tolkien books at all.

Ive only just read it at the age of 55. I'm English. I appreciated it as a period piece, but I didnt like it as much as you obviously did.

I love it so much it’d be difficult to like it NEAR AS MUCH as I did. 😉 Thanks for watching!

On the battery issue it's a problem with all readers I've used - I read in large chunks --- what I do is just recharge my reader every night. For Calibre I know you can change the Meta Data but the data is saved within Calibre and can be transferred to Kobo. So annotations might be possibly saveable at least for the owned books. My big problem is the number of books I own on the Kindle -- just transferring the ones I love re-reading is going to be a chore. I MUST HAVE page buttons so when my Oasis dies I'll be biting the bullet.

The battery life on my Kobo Libra Colour is VERY similiar to the (really bad) battery life I had on my Kindle Oasis. But my Paperwhite's (11th Gen) battery life is great! I do LOVE the Kobo's page turn buttons, but I use my Paperwhite and/or iPad mini more than the Libra Colour now. I should do an updated review!

I wonder. If you don't take it outside the house. Do you even need a cover. Did the first kindle have it? Maybe it's just business? 🤔

If you don’t take it out of the house, I think it would be fine without a case.

00:45 🤏 Lightweight and ergonomic design with comfortable page-turn buttons for extended reading sessions. 02:06 💾 Comes with 32GB storage, capable of holding 24,000 eBooks and audiobooks via Bluetooth. 02:35 🎛️ Includes user-friendly reading stats, showing progress and estimated time left in books. 04:10 🎨 Available in white and black, the color option enhances the device's aesthetic appeal. 04:44 ☁️ Direct integration with Dropbox and Google Drive allows easy access to personal documents. 05:11 🔋 Battery life may disappoint heavy readers, especially at 100% brightness. Practical for daily use but could pose challenges while traveling. 08:12 ✍️ Annotation support directly on pages is a key feature but has issues with palm recognition and page settings. Adjusting specific settings improves usability. 12:28 🖋️ Annotating requires fixed font and margin settings; changing these alters annotation alignment. 13:17 🔎 Text clarity and brightness are less sharp compared to Kindle, affected by the color filter. 14:48 📚 Kobo lacks Kindle Unlimited but supports transferring Kindle books via Calibre software. 17:15 🏛️ Integrated library access through OverDrive/Libby; limited to one library card at a time, which may inconvenience users with multiple cards. 19:04 🖼 Color display enhances covers and content like manga or comics but offers muted colors compared to tablets or phones. 20:08 ✏️ Highlighting Options: The device offers four highlighter colors (yellow, pink, blue, green), but their quality (e.g., a dull yellow and muddy pink) is criticized. 21:20 🎨 Potential Annotation System: The speaker considers using color-coded highlights for quotes, plot points, character names, etc., though currently chooses colors randomly. 22:12 ✍️ Pen Features: The pen provides ten color options and adjustable thickness, favoring thicker lines for readability. 22:50 💸 Stylus Cost Concerns: The Kobo Stylus 2 costs $70, but cheaper alternatives like Microsoft Surface-compatible styluses can also work. 23:32 🖍️ Stylus Ergonomics: The button placement on the Kobo Stylus feels awkward; using fingers for highlighting is easier. 24:28 🧲 Stylus Storage: The magnetic attachment is strong but awkwardly placed on the side rather than the top. 25:12 📓 Notebook Feature: The device includes digital notebooks with customizable backgrounds, though the speaker prefers paper for lists and planning. 26:31 📖 Exporting Annotations: The speaker struggles to export annotations directly from the Kobo, unlike Kindle, leading to reliance on third-party tools like Readwise. 29:50 📚 Manual Transfer Process: The speaker enjoys manually transferring annotations from e-readers to physical books for a deeper engagement. 31:25 🌐 Annotation Syncing: Using Readwise, annotations can be synced, but this requires a subscription ($5.59-$7.99/month). Alternatives like Calibre exist but may lack features. 33:36 🌈 Color-Coded System Trial: The speaker plans to try a color-coded annotation system, inspired by past success with "War and Peace." 35:26 🖥️ Kindle Comparisons: Despite glitches, Kindle’s ecosystem is praised for reliability. The speaker expects Kindle to release a competitive color-enabled device. 37:09 📚 Annotating Benefits: Annotating enhances reading enjoyment and memory for the speaker, though they acknowledge it may not suit everyone.

When you do your video just on annotating and highlighting could you also do how to best review them? and whether Readwise is any good with Kobo Libra? Also is there a risk that you lose the annotations/highlights if you log out? How best should we back them up/ do you export yours? Thanks <3

I've discovered a deal-breaking "feature" on the Kobo Libra Colour w/ stylus: **Your handwritten notes/annotations are not safe and will be completely lost if you ever migrate to another Kobo e-reader or if you have to reset the one you have.** This fact is highlighted in red on Kobo's help page. That would mean that if you value your notes in the books you've annotated, you'll never see them again if you changed Kobo devices. For me, doing research and making lots of notes, this is a total deal breaker. Kobo should store backups of all handwritten notes to the cloud. But they don't. Bummer.

Really, Greg? I didn't know if I had to reset my Kobo or got a new one, I would lose the notes on the books I already purchased. Hmmmm...I'm going to look into this! Thank you!
