Age 12, sitting on a fence with my male childhood best friend. We were socialized differently in the church due to our different genders. He was telling me what he learned about sex in church, that it is sacred. I was appaled! Never once did they present sex as sacred in young women meetings- it was "you're responsible for every unpure thought a man has about you when you dress immodestly" and shameful ideas around sex. I was jealous that he was taught that. Jesus. I'm 26 and just now rewiring that conditioning.

Lately I've been thinking more about this Christian concept of everyone, even children, being inherently sinful, bad, broken, terrible. It makes me so angry and sad. Recently I saw a YT video by a Christian woman with toddlers saying her kids have a naturally wicked, sinful and evil nature. It made me sick. The concept of everything natural being evil is actually such an insane control tactic and I wish people could rise above it bc it's just so destructive.

That's so sad! I nannied for a woman with similar views, only we also clashed on whether or not one can be 'cured' of being gay. She said it was true because she had been cured, and all I could think was 'brainwashed, you mean?' I am so glad I didn't risk coming out to her!

“If you’re not comfortable kissing your partner you’re not ready to make a lifelong commitment to them.” First, AMEN. Second, as someone who grew up in the evangelical bubble now looking back with more insight, I’ve come to feel that the rigid rules and notions of masculinity and femininity are essentially necessary tools for forcing these marriages to last. If men who never should have married their wives in the first place open themselves up to the emotional aspect of their marriages, staying will become unbearable. Likewise if women in those marriages either insist on that emotional connection or allow themselves a sense of agency in their sex life. Masturbation is a massive challenge to sexually incompatible couples. Etc.

while they still have huge amounts of terrible, shameful things to say, I have one iota of appreciation that they do talk about female self-pleasure, especially at a young age, because I started around age 9, and at my church when they had The Talk to the confirmation students about sexuality, all talks around porn and masturbation were specifically aimed solely at the men - I felt like a complete monstrous aberration for having a sex drive, especially since mine started younger than a lot of women's, and even just knowing that it wasn't unheard of for girls to have a sex drive probably would have helped a lot. so at least there's one micro-step better at this than my church was growing up. then again discovering fan communities of women creating their own smut on the internet was a big catalyst for me getting an outside perspective, being able to figure out my own sexuality as a lesbian, and getting the fuck out so maybe it's all for the best lol

Reminds me of how shocked I was he first time a female I knew admitted a "pornography struggle." Let's face it, why would the lying patriarchy have any reason to teach women to suppress sexual urges. Teaching men to supress sxual desires lessens competition in the straight world. Teaching women to supress them would just cause scarcity in the sexual selection for those who are straight. Until you are forced to give up polygamy by external forces, at which point you might turn to homosexuality hidden by different "sacred" names as a way to better get away with sex with multiple people being hidden because people conditioned to believe sex is simply between male and female would easily fall prey to just considering it something else. I worry that is the real reason some of the higher ups in the church are concerned about accepting homosexuality because some of their groomed victims would realize they were sexual victims instead of "being blessed by their priesthood leaders." It always bothered me that in youth leadership, you had to have two leaders when the gender was different, but one was sufficient when the gender was the same.

I'm pretty sure i was younger than 9. I just can't remember when masturbation wasn't part of my falling asleep ritual. And my very christian mother only told me not to do it in public. I learned what it was called and all the anatomy stuff when i was around 12 i think. I don't remember being ashamed of it or trying not to do it. But i also don't remember if anyone tried to make me feel ashamed or not. It's entirely possible that my parents just ignored it because they didn't know how to deal with it.
@hannajung7512 Жыл бұрын
what christians leave out conviently to man is that the bible says also, that the body of the man is owned by the women, and both are equal in their duty to care for the needs of their partner. Which I think obviously means, that if a woman does not want to have sex, her husband is not allowed to use his body to do the sex with her, and his duty would rather be to create an environment in which her needs are met in the way needed for her to want sex with him. But of course the mostly male Christian leaders just ignore that part.
@amberinthemist7912 Жыл бұрын
Ime leaders didn't ignore that part they just understand it differently. It was also presented to be at the man is also not allowed to say no. The husband isn't ever under any obligation to give the woman an orgasm but he also can't say no to sex. It's all a bunch of toxic bs though. Probably not going to be a mutually satisfying relationship based on advice from people who viewed women as property so best to ignore entirely.
@amberinthemist7912 Жыл бұрын
There's no biblical duty for husband's to create an environment for his wife to want to have sex with him. It would be nice but it doesn't say that anywhere in the bible.
@hannajung7512 Жыл бұрын
@@amberinthemist7912 the thing is... in the medieval times this was actually viewed differently. And even just 50 years ago in Germany, when "no-guilt divorce" was not a thing yet, divorce because one partner did not meet the others sexual needs was legal. Women had ... in theory... absolutly the right to divorce a husband that did not satisfy them. While I agree that the whole concept is toxic either way, the passage is in my eyes pretty clear about the fact that both partners are equally obligated to sexually satisfy the other. And it is a pretty recent developement that this is interpreted as "just having sex" and is based in a worldview in which women are either whore or respectable wife, and people started to think that women do not enjoy sex anyway and orgasms are maybe even fake. Befor it was even condidered a husbands duty to pleassure his wife because it was believed to be necessary for pregnancy (do not let me get started on what that ment for rape victims that got pregnant). My point is: while this particular advise is still toxic and unhealthy, it was not allways viewed and lived as one sided as in evangelical christianity.

So I am from Germany and in my religious group there was a habit of doing the government contracty thing on one day and the wedding ceremony with a pastor on another day. So I got some discussion about which day is your "actual" wedding day before God... My mom got married again, when I was 12. Our pastor declined to do the churchy blessing part because he didn't feel it from God (he was right, they don't fit, but we were angry at him and found us a new church). So my parents got just married by Government standard. Also my youth pastor got some shit from people, because he married by Government several month before the churchy blessing thing but he and his wife were living together since the Government part. Because in God eyes you are only married after the blessing, but my youth pastor said, it was OK after the Government part. Our youth group was split on this one... This is so fucked up now for me...

There was a deflated water balloon analogy “try putting the water back into that little hole, Jessica” and you get a purity ring as a promise to your future spouse. My mother confessed to me how she’d kissed a guy in college who was NOT MY FATHER 😱 😱 it seemed like a big deal to her and I couldn’t bring myself to tell her that the week before I’d played spin the bottle and dares like strip naked and run around on our school trip to France. And that I’d been masturbating since I was 8. No way was I going to give up one of my only sources of dopamine 🤣

Them "endorsing masturbation" by calling it "self-preparation" makes me think that their respective husbands are just shit at sex and if they don't do some prep work they simply won't come, and now they're trying to justify it as "normal". After all, why would you need to masturbate before sex if you were engaging in foreplay with your husband? In my view, masturbation is a replacement for sex with a partner (either because you don't have a partner, or one of you just isn't interested in sex at the moment). Its not really a thing that you mix with sex unless its a fetish (like voyeurism/exhibitionism kind of thing). That's my view at least. Them re-branding it into "self-preparation" just makes it seem like they're trying to put the responsibility of coming entirely onto the woman and excuse the husband for being selfish in bed and unwilling to compromise or communicate.

Whether or not a person is better or worse coming from the situations of casual sex, etc. is subjective. Consider the possibility that they don't fit the societal belief of what is good because they simply aren't as broken as society. To the broken, the unbroken may seem broken. They may be exposed to different points of view that actually help them learn and grow beyond the collective stupidity. Many people understand that a combination of people is likely to be able to be smarter than the individual but forget that collective stupidity is also a possibility where the mass of people become more stupid than any one individual in that group. Wich is why you should always question everything regardless of how many people support it.

@@ZelphOntheShelf So are you both in an agreement to have sex with people who you don't know their lets say dating profile that well the thing is you don't know how many people that person has slept with . I think waiting before marriage is a protection their is STD'S and of course Aids is rampant . Condoms are not a 100% preventable you marry a person that is a virgin your protected from these things .

Tanner- respectfully, what porn do you watch? And where do I find it? And what terms should I search? And how many tissues do I need to dry my eyes with?? Seriously, some actually interesting porn with good emotionally connected vibes sounds so lovely

Wait, tanner just casually says he came back to Christianity? Does he talk about that anywhere??

not sure which part you’re talking about here, but i’ll say i don’t believe “traditional” christian dogmas like the literal bodily resurrection of christ, the necessity of ordinances, or the divinity of the bible. i am a christian insofar as my devotion to christ ultimately “saved” me from such dogmas and introduced me to a more progressive, naturalistic, and universal model of understanding that both transcends and integrates my christianity.

I discovered playboy magazines in friends brothers room when we were kids (we were nosy lol) and I absolutely remember photographed sex scenes... it was full blown hard-core like the shit you see on ph but still... I definitely remember actual sex photographed on those pages

What about the 6 year old kid in Virginia who shot his teacher? A twisted person already or Nikolas Cruz who killed all those people at the high school in Florida.

Could be born a psychopath neurologically, could have been deeply messed up by trauma-either way it seems like the main question should be how on earth a six year old had access to a gun.

I love your content, as always! One note: I think that many of your viewers would appreciate you using more accurate language when referring to afab and amab individuals. For example when talking about "women's bodies", it seems like you're referring to female bodies or afab bodies. I know that a lot of your viewers are outside of the gender binary, and so is one of Tanner's partners, and generally it's just good to use more accurate and intentional language. Thank you for creating the content that you do :)
