Thanks for the education. I contacted both my local Chevy Dealer and Chevy HQ trying to find the axle ratio of my 1998 Silverado. Both blew me off telling me the truck was too old and their records don't go back that far. When I ask both of them if they had any suggestions on how I might find the info, both said "NO". Neither of the mentioned the RPO Codes in my glove box which, after I viewed your video, those codes and the link you provided, enabled me to find the RPO Code descriptions and figure it out!! THANKS FOR NOTHING CHEVROLET!!!!! I'll remember you "Customer Service" next time I buy any vehicle.

I just purchased a 2010 Silverado 2500HD LTZ which was advertised as having a 4.10 axle ratio. RPO code in the glove box reads GT5 which denotes 4.10. I run a VIN check and I get 3.73. Which is correct?

You are a wealth of knowledge. I just bought a used 1987 S-10 Blazer Tahoe 4X4, one owner, senior citizen driven, garage kept, 61k original miles, Mint. I only got one set of keys with it. Do you know the RPO code for Factory Alarm/Keyless Entry?????? If it has it I will buy some remote alarm kry fobs and get them programmed. Thank You.

hey brother i realize this is an older video but i've just bought my first duramax...a 2009 like in your video. and its exactly like you talked about there at the end. i got it at an auction and whoever had it had done quite a bit of aftermarket stuff to it, and i'm trying to figure out what all exactly that was and what came factory....but there's no owner manual, nor unfortunately any little extra book like you showed thats specific to the duramax. i haven't had a bit of luck finding any of those publications....you don;t happen to have any advice for me as far as where to find an owners manual and/or a service/shop manual do you??? i know its a shot in the dark but i'm out of ideas....thx for any help you got

what do you do if a previous owner removed the sticker? My Cadillac has no sticker inside the glove box, or anywhere else either. Can you get the build sheet using the VIN? That would be good infor maybe for another video...

Look a the very bottom of sticker look for BC/CC. The paint code will start with a U-### or a WA-### & follow the BC-CC. base coat -clear coat

you will find the paint code in 2 locations on the GM built trucks. At the RPO sheet you'll find it at the bottom of the list . If it's a 2 tone paint scheme it will have a dash In between the paint codes and also you will find it at the bottom of the VIN plate on the driver's side B-pillar

The front and rear ratios always match. Otherwise your driveline would bind as soon as you put it in 4WD.

Thank you for the reply , one more question if you would , I'v owned my 09 1500 Silverado since I purchased it new , I've had a random amount of repairs over the years some serious some not so serious , my latest issue is a fairly large amount of end play at the passenger rear axle , when I jack the rear up off the ground I can grab the tire and pull in and out about 1/8 inch or so , it's enough that it can be heard when driving , you have the same truck as I do have you noticed this end play , also it's just the passenger side. The driver side is tight , What are your thoughts on this ? Thank you . Also the truck has 115,000. Miles , thanks .

I no longer have the truck in this video. My new truck is a 2006 duramax. When I had the 2009 there was no such play in the axle, and I traded it in with 105k miles on it. I do know that there are pins that keep the axles in place so that is the first thing I would look into. They are most likely wore down and are allowing some slack to occur. I am no master mechanic by any means and this might not be the problem at all, but that is the first thing I would check.

Very good info. I just purchased an 07 Silverado crew cab and I've been unable to find some of the rpo codes online. Perhaps you could help. They are: AL0, DK8, JF3, JIG, KG3, LY2, NT8, NX7, NZ4, QPR, R6K, R6P, R9N, R9Z, SSB, YD5, ZPR, 1SZ, 6HH, 7HH, 88B, and 88I. If you're unable to decipher them all, that's fine. But any help would be much appreciated.

My truck has the code LY6 and has the 6.0. According to the code, your truck has the 4.8. The other ones I am unfamiliar with, but hopefully this website helps. Thank you very much for viewing!

There is an RPO code for it but you would have to look it up. You could count the number of times your drive shaft turned to one ratio of the rear tire. and there might still be a tag on the differential

There are two codes that relate to remote start on the vehicle. AP8: Remote start prep package which means it is capable of remote start if taken to the dealership AP3: Remote start equipped If you pause my video at 1:42 and look at the top line you can see the AP3 code and my vehicle does have remote start. Go to Orielley auto and have them type in your VIN number or have them bring in all the fuel pumps available for your truck configuration, power train, and fuel tank size. I know there's gonna be like 3 or 4 different kinds of them available for that type of truck .

My 2013 Texas Edition LT Avalanche window sticker states 3.73 ratio but its RPO code says "G80" which is a 3.42 ratio code, what's really going on???

Michael Mullner The RPO code “G80” is for a limited slip rear end and not the gear ratio itself. I would run the other drivetrain code to see what the code for a 3.42 and a 3.73 is.

Michael Mullner No problem bud. GM RPO codes are confusing mainly because there are so many. If you download the pdf file from GM with every single code it is easy see that there are thousands of them.

James Chevalley I do not believe that there is a particular book out there with these codes in it, but there are websites out there that have the interpretations in pdf format. You could save that and print it out. However be aware that there are thousands of codes so it will take a ton of paper.

RPO doesn't stand for Regular Production Codes, genius. Also, it's VIN, not "VIN number," as VIN already means Vehicle Identification Number, Cletus.
