As a former GameStop employee here in Europe, Kim is absolutely spot on. There is no way this person got a membership without agreeing to it, because as an employee we have to have all information to put into the system, mails etc to send discount offers etc.

Ok but I disagree and can tell you all that it can happen. I sent my husband to the store with a return (bc only one person could leave the house during quarantine). The employee there pushed him into joining pro *even tho his name was nowhere on the membership account*. I had to jump thru so many hoops to get us off the pro plan it wasn’t even funny. So yeah, memberships without specific customers’ consent do happen.

Right?! Unrelated to GameStop but when I worked at Taco Bell someone left me a bad review that I gave them a dirty look as they left my drive thru window. That really pissed me off because I remember that day that the car before this lady was two creepy guys. One of them said “I want to tickle you baby” Like lady, you don’t know what I just had to deal with! And I didn’t even give her a dirty look, I was about to cry! People are so annoying 😂

The reason why the game boxes/cases are empty at Gamestop is because as a failsafe incase a thief tries to steal the games on the shelves, but, as you said, Gamestop keeps cases/boxes on the shelf for advertisement. What REALLY bugs game collectors is when Gamestop gives them a generic Gamestop game case to hold the game in (instead of it's original case it came from initially) or even not giving them a safe container to hold their game they bought, running the risk of the game being damaged due to not having a proper way to store it

I've legit gone to Gamestop and experienced: 1. selling a statue from a case, box was so bad the figure fellout on the ground in the parking lot. (supposedly "New") 2. My Gamestop rewards card numbers were stolen by an employee (I had almost 100k of points) and the GM told me "we will sort it" I never got anything to this day 6 years later. 3. bringing a brand new copy of a game and finding out they open the copies, so they definately aren't sealed and likely not even new. 4. Bring a used copy up to the counter and getting a different and worse case with 0 case art and in place was some garbage sharpie'd peice of paper. I can go on all day dudes, been a collector for almost 15 years and Gamestop is the absolute LAST place I will ever go for games. Just my experience. The story about Rewards cards may have not been true in this case, but I can tell you from experience that I have been signed up for rewards without my consent. Camelot331 on KZbin can confirm this is a thing.

Hilarious video, I am myself working in a gamestop in Canada and Ive been in so many of those same situation, People complaining about the price we give for games or the game boxes we have to keep in the game section even if we don't have them anymore. Even the bathroom situation, I lived it and we had to explain to the customer we can't let them use it cause they can't go in our backstore. Gamestop can be a cool store when you have people loving working there !

I worked at GameStop two years ago. It wasn't too long of a gig, but it was a dream job I had as a side job and I can honestly say so many customers just got under my skin as someone who didn't even work there full time. I remember a customer coming in asking for a PS3 controller and getting so upset that we didn't have them in stock. And then my manager had a complaint from this guy. Sucks that so many customers just treat us like we're an jerks for being "inept" or having their exact need. Not in a rude way but so many customers think they habe so much privilege over others including the workers

I’ve worked at a GameStop for four years and this is all true. One time I had a guy try to trade in his Xbox one s, the thing was filthy and smelly. When I went to plug it in and make sure it worked properly I noticed a dead rotted cockroach in the Ethernet port. I looked inside the little holes the Xbox has in the side and... yup saw more dead bugs. I immediately gave it bad and said “ can’t take it, it has dead bugs inside.” The costumer said “okay” like if having dead bugs inside was a normal thing. While I worked there I saw some crazy thing, had a lot of pissed off people yet at you because you can’t take in their 10 year old games that no one wants. Or even ouch the door on their way out.

I liked my Gamestop before I moved, I moved several states south and had a completely different experience. I was looking for a specific game that I had checked online before I went in that they had in stock. I know checking online isn't always correct that they had it in store but when I went in to get it they told me I had no idea what I was talking about and that the game I was looking for didn't exist. When I asked them to check in their computer because I do in fact know that the game exists they told me to stop pretending I knew what I was talking about, when I was mentioning a game that didn't exist. (I assumed this was because I was a female.) I proceeded to drive an extra 10 minutes further from my house and picked the game up from my local Best Buy that same day. I talked to an employee at the best buy about my experience because I was infuriated and had just left that store and the guy told me that most of the best buy employees had worked at that gamestop but had left because the manager was rude, condescending and sexist. I have not set foot in a gamestop since. I miss the gamestop in my home town, they were all nice people, it just depends on what the store is like I guess.

I completely back up the man who said he was charged for a membership he didn’t want. My place has a free and then the pro. When I asked I was cool with the free membership and instead the employee still charged me 15 bucks for the pro and used my prior information. Same thing, I went back and complained and he told me there was no refunds or any way to reverse it. Now if I ever go to GameStop for games, cause I don’t do trade ins anymore, I literally tell them no for everything and just give me the base items with no warranties or useless garbage.

Years ago I traded in Super Paper Mario. EB Games (Canadian Gamestop) gave me $4 for it then sold it for $25. Other game stores I've been to always give at least 50% the value they sell for.

Gamestop: The company that took the wrapper off of their brand new (and exclusive second run) copies of the Metroid Prime Trilogy to make new copies look impossible to find, then marked them up through the roof by pretending they had rare used copies of the first run. But, they forgot to remove the unused Nintendo rewards cards inside and the cases were plastic, not tin like the original run. So, they were caught red-handed... scamming customers. Or am I the only one that remembers that?

All of the GameStops I've ever been to have had really friendly, helpful employees who are totally okay with you geeking out with them over the latest releases. One of them even complimented me on my manners one time, and that made me feel nice :) Oh, and the phrase you were thinking of is "practiced what they preached."

The empty cases on the shelf thing. I reckon it wouldn't hurt to put up a small disclaimer sign saying something like "the games on the shelves do not reflect stock numbers and may still be unavailable". I feel like that would resolve a number of confused and frustrated people. I still like to take boxes to the counter because I usually get less popular games and sometimes the staff don't know what it is I'm getting. I also recently had an experience where my brother took a pre-owned FIFA 21 to the counter because it was fairly cheap. The sticker on the case covered the Xbox One logo and you could only see the Series S/X logo. The staff then thought that the game was only for Series S/X and they had no "just Xbox One" versions left. Pretty silly considering that they should know - being game store employees - that new Xbox games work on both platforms and have 'Xbox One/SeriesS/X' on the box. It wasn't even an obscure piece of knowledge it should be taught to every employee.

My biggest issue with GS is too often they don’t have what I’m looking for. Went in for a PS5 controller, was told the box is only on the shelf because Sony pays for advertising. Then was asked if I wanted to preorder one of the new colors. Went next door to Target, which had about a dozen PS5 controllers.

I have a love-hate relationship with GameStop. When me and my brother went to Miami last year we looked up that a GameStop was close by where we were shopping and we went to. However it it was all locked up as if it were closed, yet if that was the case why was there a guy just reading some Gaming monthly magazine? Even as we tried to gain his attention to communicate with him through the door he blatantly ignored us as if just expecting us to go away. We were just kids who wanted some games so you can't blame us for trying, also if he's going to not do anything the least he could have done was shake his head no or maybe turned the neon OPEN sign off or something?

I have never been singed up for a membership without being asked but I have had them add disc protection with being asked but saw it on the little screen and had them remove it. I have never needed insurance for a damn disc. Another time I got a used PS3 control and went home and it didn’t work so I walked back the same day and got a different one and decided to get the warranty. When I got how the controller looked ruff but was like if it works I will just keep it because minor cosmetic damage didn’t bug me. Well I played SoulCaliber 4 and 5 with it for a week and was like let’s see if BF3 has servers and then found out L3 didn’t work. So I went back and the guy said they didn’t sell me that controller in the condition and had to argue with him to replace it.
