Which authors do you reach for over and over for MTH books?

For thrillers : Freida McFadden, & ba Paris because I haven’t finished their backlogs. Ruth ware and Alice Feeney for annuals. I know you don’t like Freida and I don’t think BAP will be much better for you but maybe!

I've liked a lot of Dean Koontz' books, although he's had several duds as well, he wrote some of my favorites, like Watchers, Intensity, The Face, and Mr. Murder. I liked two of Ruth Ware's books, but I started some others and I'm not sure I'll like more.

I love the Jane Harper books I've read so far. Her Aaron Falk Trilogy is one of my new favourites! I don't know if you are into humorous historical mystery, but I read the first Veronica Speedwell book by Deanna Raybourne this year and loved it. Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie freaked me out. So did Hemlock Island by Kelley Armstrong. Those are the only books I've read by them so far. But I highly highly recommend Jane Harper!

Going to the doctor as a woman with a chronic illness is SO HARD. On top of feeling awful and not having any answers the misogyny adds another layer on the suffering. The grief and the rage that comes with that is so complex it is debilitating in itself sometimes too. I know it's not really helping, but maybe it's just a small comfort to know that you are not the only one going through this. I hope your health trajectory is on the up from now on!

I'm usually here for the cat content 😂, but I just wanted to say that I'm so glad you're starting to get some answers about your health. Not being taken seriously can be traumatizing. Having such low leves of blood sugar can be dangerous (especially at night), so don't give up on fighting for your health and wellbeing. Sending you all the hugs ❤ I recently had thrombosis (2 veins in my leg stopped working due to blood clots), and when I went to the ER unable to walk and worried about having thrombosis, the (male) doctor told me it was definitely NOT that. I spent two weeks in unsurmountable pain before getting the right treatment. It was frustrating and scary, and I'm glad I was later taken care of by a team of excellent professionals, but that first dismissal could have meant severe, life-threatening health complications

I'm so glad you're finding answers for your health! As a fat woman I absolutely hate the doctor. For years and years I told my doctor that I was struggling to lose weight (he said just try harder) and that I kept getting random bruises everywhere, was so tired all the time, and kept getting colds, my period was never the same. Basically a whole laundry list of stuff that he just dismissed and put me on birth control. Well got a woman doctor now and she decided to actually do her job. Turned out my spleen is enlarged (random bruises and tiredness) and that I have PCOS. I'm so glad I finally have answers, the limbo of not knowing isn't fun.

Chiming in that I’m glad you were able to sort out what was going on and horrible that you were being gaslit by your MD. I have an autoimmune condition that took 12 years to diagnose properly so I totally relate. I had started writing about about medical misogyny and had to take a break from it after hearing about a young woman who was riddled with cancer but after being dismissed so often they didn’t catch it in time and she passed away. Some of these stories require me to step back because the number of women affected is so overwhelming and it begins to feel hopeless. I often wonder what happens to the women who blindly listen to their doctor and don’t stick up for themselves or take some proactive control of the situation. It almost sounds like you have some medical PTSD, I have it myself and avoid making appointments of any kind with new doctors because I’m so sure I’ll be dismissed. Anyways, keep telling your story, you are not alone and I hope things continue to improve

Hi, Emily! I almost cried while listening to you talk about your health and how you have been feeling (and re-expiencing yourself while watching your old videos) and your experience with doctors... because I'm the same. Almost the exact same as you described. Please ignore me if this doesn't resonate with you but the thing that has been helping me a lot recently was to accommodate my diet with the help of a nutritionist. I had to fight to see one ("Why do you think food is important? Isn't the problem that you're always tired and can't focus on anything?" -- Doctors, really...), but they help me out A LOT. They read my blood exams and I found out that I was eating too much food rich in histamines and many, many other things. Currently, I'm working on literally healing my intestines because they really need the help. But I am feeling better and now I have a support plan that I can follow and the right supplements for me. I hope you keep feeling better. I really hope you get well soon. Thank you for sharing this part of your life. I'll be sending you good vibes! You can do it!

Emily, I am sure you feel some relief finally having an answer to all of these health problems and frustrations. And you're right, it could be worse. It is absolutely horrible that we women have to face the seemingly consistent doubt, almost gaslighting in the doctor's office. I recently faced it too. I had to chase down a late diagnosis for ADHD (not cheap in the US) and research how entering perimenopause can heighten certain symptoms. It's like we have to become our own doctors at times. We, as a society, have so many steps yet to take to be really "heard." But we will continue to support each other. ❤ Loving your videos and, of course, the kitties too!

You thought people were going to skip the part about your health! Well, it seems not. I am glad for that. I am also happy to see people connect and empathise. Regarding the challenge, just take into account how many books you've read so far! It's normal to have higher standards! Take care! I can hardly wait for your next video. ❤😊🤗

I feel you Emily and I hope you'll get better ! I struggle with chronic pain since the age of 12 because no doctor took me seriously when I hurt my shoulder. They all said to me (3 or 4 different specialists) that at my young age, it would get better with time alone. Fun fact, 10+ years later, I cannot have an office job or do sport without feeling pain through my whole arm and back. It could have been solved with simple exercices when the issue occured... And now it feels like I cannot do anithing to deal with it

I recently read Misery by Stephen King and I was pleasantly surprised! I am usually left dissatisfied with his books, but this one I actually liked from beginning to end. I like to read horror in the summer, now I'm shifting into murder mystery mode. Also, I'm sorry to hear about your health problems, I hope things continue to get better!

I so hear you on not being taken seriously by physicians. I, too, have Celiac disease and it took a long time before someone would listen. Make sure you check your iron levels and iron stores because you're probably anemic and also low on other essential vitamins and minerals. It took me about 2 years before I started to feel better, but you'll get there. Take care.

Giiiiirl i feel you!! I bled every day for 3 years and my doctor (a woman, should i add) didn't do any other test than bloodworks. She made a request for a gynecologist 3 years after I started to have menstruations every damn day. Just said i was fat, should lose weight. Now, i don't have menstruations anymore (because the gynecologist made me took the pill for a year straight to "stop the bloodflow" and my cycles never came back) and she says that is my weight! 🎉🙄 I also have hypothyroidism, SOPK and insulin resistance (this comes normally with the SOPK), and I am begging to have tests done because i sleep like a mess, i can't lose weight because my system is so low and so tired all the time... this is such a pain. ❤ i am so sorry you had to go through all of this!

I was diagnosed coeliac disease when i was 11, but am pretty sure ive always had it. I had stomach issues until i wad 15. It took over 4 years for my gut to get better. They started to think there was something else too, but it wasnt, it just took so long for my small intestine to recover. Am so glad my parents fought for my diagnose, even tho am pretty sure not all doctors took my symptomps seriously. I'm happy youre finally getting answers! The coeliac disease has gotten more common here where i live (in northern europe), and i know multiple people that have been diagnosed in recent years. The symptoms can vary so much it can be hard to find.

As depressing as it is, it's good to hear it can be normal to struggle for a while. I was told I'd probably have few more intolerances while I heal and it was a huge pain to figure them out but now that they're out of my diet I'm starting to feel better. I've definitely a weird mix of symptoms all my life that would come and go so it definitely didn't make the diagnosis easy. I feel like more people have it then we realize!

As a type 1 diabetic who has struggled with my blood sugar dropping at night, I highly suggest eating a protein bar, or a few bites of peanut butter (some protein basically) right before bed!

I've been slowly improving (making sure I eat enough protein and fat at supper) and it's helping. Hopefully I'll start sleeping the whole night soon!

Please look for a female GP, is that possible? I have one and your story sounds insane to me BUT I know this happens including my previous aging male GP. It’s really not ok to continue to not feel well because you’re so uncomfortable going to see your doctor. I hope you feel better soon ❤

Women doctors are just as bad as male doctors. Sometimes they’re even worse
@gemgerm2 ай бұрын
Sadly I learned gender does not matter. It was a male doctor who finally took my PCOS seriously and got me the proper tests for an official diagnosis. Now I am trying to go with providers that people recommend. They happen to be females though so that’s good for comfort level.

I had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism since I was 12. When I was young all the GPs and even an endocrinologist were male and they all dismissed my symptoms. So when I finally was able to get my own insurance in my 20s I chose a female gp, and she was hardly any better. By then I had done some research and I felt strongly I had hypothyroidism, but she seemed to be more reluctant to diagnose me with hypothyroidism because I had "googled it". At that point my symptoms had gotten so bad I felt like I was going crazy. The doctor who actually got me the proper tests that led to my diagnosis was my gyno after I begged her. She just happened to be covering for my gp for some patients. I went to my appointment and the receptionist told me I would have to reschedule because my gp was on vacation. I had a little fit, I couldnt stop myself from breaking down in tears and begged to see another practitioner and my gyno was luckily available in function of a gp. Otherwise I don't know how long it would have taken for my Hashimotos thyroiditis to be diagnosed. Another 15 years probably.

So sorry your doctor has been treating you this way, the same thing has happened to me in the past and it was just so frustrating and heartbreking. I sometimes wonder why people like that even work in health care. Hope you feel better soona nd sending you all the love!

Your doctor's story is so similar to mine.. I had problems with fainting and breathing throughout my whole middle school (or the equivalent for that in Germany) and my doctor always told me it is normal for girls my age and that the breathing problems are anxiety or panic attacks. After switching doctors my new one (a woman) immediately referred me to a pulmonary specialist. Well turns out I have severe Asthma that was causing all my problems. I felt so let down by my old doctor and to this day I sometimes struggle with the aftereffects. Asthma is not curable but when treated early it can be almost asymptomatic. If it had been discovered earlier I could have been much better today. But my doctor thought it would be better to just call it anxiety… Misogyny in the medical field is so severe.. I hope you get better soon and that your doctor will finally take you seriously!

I'm so glad that you're starting to feel better. I've noticed lately that you seem to be happier and have more energy in your videos like you did years ago when I first started watching. It's truely lovely to see! And I'm sorry that your doctor sucks. I know we're short on doctors but I don't suppose it would be possible to switch doctors or get a nurse practitioner? I'm sure you've looked into it already. Anyway, I'll be wishing for you to continue healing.

I wasted a whole year of my life taking birth control that I KNEW was hurting me whilst my doctor told me it was normal and it was all in my head until I just made the unilateral decision to stop the birth control and guess what???? I feel a lot better! I'm still dealing with so much fallout from it tho, my hormones are still so fucked from it and it just makes me so so angry that doctors will not listen to women when we tell them stuff about our own damn bodies! we can tell when something is wrong, it's so frustrating! i'm so sorry this happened to you, im so glad you're now finally getting the answers you need !!!

So sorry you've had such trouble getting proper diagnoses medically. It's bad enough have chronic health issues, but having your family doctor dismiss your symptoms makes it all the more frustrating. Glad you were able to clearly document the problems in such a way so that you can get the appropriate medical help!

I'm really sorry to hear you've been struggling with your health but it's great that you're closer to some answers. What's really irritating is your doctor and his incompetence and gaslighting. I know the feeling of going to a doctor and not being taken seriously, it sucks so much. :(

Apologies if you’ve already read it but my favorite horror is Slewfoot by Brom. Takes place in 1666 😉 in Connecticut. There’s a woman who the townspeople are suspicious of, she may or may not be a witch. There’s a devil, demons… I call it a female rage/environmental revenge story it was so satisfying.
