I did this tag two weeks ago, and I'm currently reading one of the books I named as my most anticipated releases for the end of the year (Fury of The Gods). I'm also super excited about Heavenly Tyrant (which will be released at the end of December). I really focused on keeping up-to-date with series I already started and reading already finished series this year. So, I finished a lot of series this year, and I think I'll allow myself to start a few new unfinished series next year.

Honestly, I could just run off with the character Gabriel Oak in Hardy's Far From the Madding Crowd! Loved him. For the rest of the year, I want to read my nonfiction books-the Salt Path by Raynor Winn and Annie's Ghosts by Steve Luzenberg and I have never read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I want to see if its that much different from all the movies. My plans for winter 2025 is to read all the books showing snow depicted on the book covers. I wanted to read on my Kindle the translated Swedish book Stolen by Ann-Helen Laestadius this year but didn't have time. I will read it in January 2025. And also for the winter, I will read mysteries and maybe some deeper topics in non-fiction and maybe thicker fiction too. I have quite a few read books to donate to my library before their April 2025 public sale which will clear spaces for more books from their sale for me.

You should try Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood. It’s a small town murder mystery, and the main character is an old lady who drinks whisky, writes crosswords, and swims naked in the Thames.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on Clarice Lispector someday… I’m obsessed with her! Maybe you should start with “Agua Viva”, “The Hour of the Star” and “The Passion According to G.H.”

I am so happy you started starter villain. I hope you enjoy it. My same vibe for this year's favorite so far, which is Hench. it's sci-fi and a woman uses her data analyst skills to take down superheroes.

I'm concidering going a bit without reading as much just as a palate cleanser/ break before the holidays 😅

Wind and Truth is definitely my (almost) guaranteed 5 stars of the year but I do have a couple of other hopefuls, starting with L'amica geniale d'Elena Ferrante (!!). I've heard you rave about the series for years but wanted to be able to read it in Italian so I kept postponing it and only started it a couple days ago (I have the French version too to help with the trickiest passages!).
@BookswithEmilyFoxСағат бұрын
Definitely keep me posted! I've heard a lot of it is in dialect (same with the tv show) so getting the french version as a backup sounds like a good idea!

Elena Knows is really good but it’s more quiet / vibes than murder mystery. Just to help set expectations. And for 5 star hopefuls this year - I just started My Brilliant Friend 👀👀 if that’s doesn’t do it though I have How High We Go In The Dark on my short list 🤞

I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I didn't care for Far from the Madding Crowd, and it's because of the characters. I could not stand the main female. No one has any sense except Oak, and even then I question his taste in women 😜
