3:42, never knew placing the ledger line closer to which staff indicated which hand to play with... Great share. Coming from a piano newb (i.e. me), I think one message experienced and accomplished instructors fail to point out is the mnemonics go away after a while. When sight reading, you get to the point you don't have to process what note you are looking at. You leave active use of the mnemonics behind, day by day. That's the end point, to be utterly familiar with the staves.

The mnemonics help some people for a while, but I think it’s better to just learn using the alphabet because, as you mentioned, that’s eventually how everyone ends up reading in the end. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I’ve been trying to memorize the grand staff for years, but it never really seemed “doable” until now. (This is so much better than mnemonic devices alone.) And your teaching style rocks 😁

Thanks so much Miss Jenifer. I retired 6 months ago and one of my goals with all of my newly found free time is to rehab my piano playing. I started about 25 years ago, studied for about 6 months and then dropped it when my teacher moved from the area. I got to the point where I was able to play well enough to enjoy it, for other people around me to enjoy and I was just starting to compose a little bit. Now 25 years later I'm finding it very hard to reengage with it and a big stumbling block is reading the Grand Staff. I think your Tips & Tricks will be really helpful and I'm going to stick with this until I gain some facility with it before going further. Thanks again and just subscribed.

I am so excited to hear you have the time and interest to return to playing piano! What I hear from my students, especially my older adult learners, is that reading the Grand Staff is their biggest struggle. I think anyone can do it if they just don’t give up! The piano has the largest note range so there is a lot to learn, but I believe if you just concentrate on really learning a few notes at first it will get easier over time! Good luck and keep us updated on your progress! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
