I did from 5th grade to early college years . I too in pre teen angst threw away one diary due to being love sick over a certain boy named Mohamed , whom I had an legendary crush over . I want to encourage my son to keep a journal so he can express himself and have those memories as well. This was awesome Evelyn, thanks for inviting us to meet young Evelyn.

Kept one from 7th grade through college. And I still have them (still in secret locations, and yeah I live alone 🤷🏾‍♀️). All the tv shows I wasn’t allowed to watch that I watched anyway were updated in my diary by code. The codes were my phonetic spelling of the theme music. 90210 was na na na na na na na na. 😂😂😂

I feel like we often forget that children have really complex and rich inner lives. They have the capacity for extremely poignant emotions just like adults do, just with less linguistic ability to express them. It was an absolute joy to watch and reminisce with you. Thank you so much for sharing! As for my sort-of diary secrets, in elementary school, I went through the yearbooks and circled the pictures of boys who scared me and girls who I thought were pretty. Boy, was that telling!

I wrote about my crush in my diary at 6years old. My sister found it and read it aloud for my mom IN MY PRESENCE. Mortification and betrayal can only begin to describe the feelings that I felt. I once kept a diary in 6th grade. I brought it to school one day. (Terrible idea) I remember during art class I went to the bathroom and one of my class mates started reading it out loud to everyone. 😭And of course she was reading the page where I talked about my crush in computer class. And oh was I dramatic about my crushes. I just love his cute lips... I don’t care if he was a bad boy... ect. 🤦🏾‍♀️ ⚰️💀😫Ahgghhdb. I was so shy I didn’t even take up for myself. This was such a great idea for a video, I actually started to cry a bit😢 I came across my childhood diary a few weeks ago. The entries span from ages 11 to 17, a very rough time in my life. Some happier highlights that I remember: -I had named my diary Charity, after a character from my favorite soap opera that I should NOT have been watching, Passions. -My handwriting never really got any better in the span of 6 years. -And I developed a hopeless crush on any and every boy that ever spoke to me. My heart BROKE when you were saying you wanted to go on a diet. 😖 but I support those purchases. I keep a diary of sorts. I use it to document the dialogue between God and I and it helps me clarify my thoughts and feelings. I actually intentionally share some things in my journal so that I can keep people in the loop on how I'm doing and where I'm at. The level of your vulnerability is the level of your freedom. The journal is intended to make me a better communicator so it only makes sense to share it. I'm just careful about who I share what with.

I never had a diary because growing up in a very religious home I knew my parents would be against so I kept all that stuff in my head. It was just safer that way. My daughter is 13 and while she doesn't keep a diary where she writes things down, she is an artist and all her feelings can be seen in her art work. She has dozens of sketch books, and she doesn't let anyone see them. It's her private life so I let her keep it so.

I kept several diaries and actually have one today that I don't write in very often, I'll admit. I'm sad I didn't keep the ones I had from my childhood. I'd love to go back and read them.

I kept a diary off and on when I was really young. In college I journaled frequently and still do to this day. I have five just from my college years. It’s interesting to look back at my thoughts and see my growth.

I had a diary from 11 to 13. Its a little depressing. My outlook on life was so different from my peers, not in a bad way. I was just over everyone and lonely even though i am the oldest of 6 kids @ the time. I cut my hair and played my violin. 😲lol

Hi Evelyn! I'm 24 and I have kept a diary since I was in 5th grade ( and I still have them all!). You know what's funny? Since I have journaled through most of my life, I know which journals were from a certain period in my life. I'm a very happy person, but I have one journal from when I went through a three year depression in college. Every once in a while I'll re-read through my journals , but that one I have yet to read again. Your video kind of inspired me to maybe take a peak at it... or at least think about doing it at some point haha! Loved this video Evelyn and thanks for sharing :)

I had LOTS of diaries with LOTS of secrets, and my older sister(S) used to find them, steal them, and read them OUT LOUD to my granny (she raised us). This incriminated me to no end, and I'm still traumatized by the aftermath of that 😌😫

I've been keeping journals since middle school. And I also remember throwing some of them away because I thought they were "stupid." I used to buy these paperback notebooks from those Scholastic Book Fairs they'd have every year at school. Ahh. Memories.

EVELYN! LOL I tell you, everytime I watch your videos I feel more and more like you're my spirit animal. I can't believe you said fluffy! That's how I describe my extra "fluff" as well... I've never heard anyone else say that, so that definitely made me laugh. I still write the time on my journal entries... Not sure what difference that will make in the future because it hasn't seemed to make a difference thus far from the past LOL, but I don't feel right when I don't do it. I was always told to write, but I enjoyed speaking more growing up, but being an introvert, and being older now, I've learned the value in consistently journaling. The release is necessary and as much as I resisted writing before, I secretly enjoy it now!

I loved this. My first diary years started around yours, 1999 when I was around 10. I kept a diary all throughout highschool as well. I still have them to this day at 29 years old. I remember writing about how hot Keanu Reeves was in the Matrix and this boy in a crest commercial LMAO. I sometimes as I'm cleaning up I'll take them out and read them, ugh miss those times...sometimes.

I used to keep one but after a while, as an adult, I learned that I was ruminating in too many unproductive thoughts so I stopped. It’s fun to read the ones from when I was young and innocent.

I've kept diaries since I was 7 and I'm in my 30's now. Mine are pretty difficult to look back on because they just show a lifelong battle with depression. But hearing yours read was so sweet! This was a really nice video idea and you've always been a creator. :)

I still have my diaries from like the 6th grade. I too was a stressed out kid. I still write. I like the ability to look back and reference what was going on in my life during any period of time. I have SO MANY great stories that I COMPLETELY FORGOT about. And it's the BEST de-stresser I have ever had. Works every time. Everyone should at least try it.

I had an art journal between ages 11 & 13. I always signed the back of my work with my "official" logo for my future company "Big Boot Productions". We learned about copyrights in 6th grade and so I thought it was important to copyright my work in case I became famous. I was incredibly optimistic and confident back then!

I kept a few, but I would never read them out loud. There was the typical cringe-y crush stuff that would be okay, but I really let loose when I was mad or frustrated. I wrote some...unkind things lol. I don't want to stir up trouble. I think I got rid of the evidence long ago. I hope my parents didn't pry and read those things. I'm kind of scared to ask.

I STILL have my diary...first entry 1995 age 10. Girlll my disgust towards the opposite sex& teenage crushes& anger towards adults littered those pages. I actually wrote my last entry sometime in 2013 as an adult. It's funny to be able to go back to those feelings and thoughts.
