Reading & Northern 2102: Rambling For Independence

On July 2nd, We return back to Reading & Northern for yet another Iron Horse Rambles with T-1 2102. This day was kind of a nut show due to crazy humidity and humanity. We Started in Dauberville and then continuing for Jim Thorpe and then completing with return trip. With all respect, it was a good but insane day for the Reading & Northern. Enjoy!

2102 is such a fantastic machine. I'm so glad the R&N has the means to run such large steam excursions properly. Makes me wonder of there will ever be a "Reading Steam Fest" where many of the large steamers from across the country gather for excursions on the R&N for a few weeks. How awesome would that be?!

2100 is supposed to visit and run with 2102 when she is completed. It will give her sister a place to run. They've also talked about seeing if 765 and 611 could visit as well for a Steam Enthusiast weekend.😊

MAN, what I would give to see 611 visit and doublehead with 2102! They're two of the most famous 4-8-4s in America, and among the "youngest" as well (since both were built in the mid-1940s and early 1950s, respectively). The really funny thing is that Reading actually was hosting an airshow of antique aircraft that included a restored B-29 bomber at around the exact same time one of 2102's Rambles was taking place this year. It was almost as if the town had traveled back to the Korean War era (1950-53) for a day or two.

37:07 - when she comes around that bend, it is near at speed. Her whistle screams and the ground shakes and her driverods pound to propel her farther and farther from reality into legend. It is the speed that she runs, and the show that she puts on, that makes the Reading and Northern unlike some tourist only railroad, where the poor trains make 15 mph, if theyre lucky. On the RBMN, she strides as she used to, almost 80 years ago. I drove all the way to PA, and with my mother at my side, we hauled ass from crossing to crossing to hear and see her run northbound from the new Outer Station. At each crossing we smiled with glee as cinders coated us. Together, for a few precious and brief moments, we knew that as we watched, my mom's mom (and my grandmother) were united once again. ((My grandmother is Helen N. M. von Klemmer (nee Grookett), retired head nurse of Community General Hospital's ER). THAT is what a steam engine should be, and 2102 truly is. Not just steam and steel, but memories and a link to the past, brought live to us. God bless Andy Muller and the RBMN.

We can not thank Any Muller enough for what he's done for railfans, the public in general who love all his excursions, plus the service he delivers to all the industries he serves. He's one man that knows how to make passenger trains profitable!

Yes, the freight hooter and the Reading 6-chime. She has always had both.

Great video of a classic steamer. One question is the new cars that they have for excursions-do they plan on repainting them to match the other cars such as the other super dome etc?

Everything will eventually get repainted. I'm sure Andy is recouping his 3.5 million spent on 2102s restoration first. They did a really really good top notch rebuild and that was expensive.

Great Throttle show but I'll say this the Engineman in question in his younger days along with Charlie Kachel did alot of dueling whistles with yrs ago when Charlie was the Engineer. Guess his whistle arms need some WD 40 cause they got rusty like the tin man's 😂😂 They sure aren't providing the Whistle show they did in the 1980s BM&R days
