Thank you for doing these tutorials. I can read a manual front to back to wind up scratching my head “what did i just read?”. Hearing and “being there with you” is my “plug” in to learning. Just ordered one of these and I’m using it to restore my 2000 Lincoln LS S 3.9L. Thank you again!

Thanks for such a nice comment. I am kinda the same when it comes to manuals. I definitely prefer hands on or a more visual approach. Have fun with your Lincoln, sounds like a nice ride! I bet that v8 is fun!

"First off, thanks for putting together this video and highlighting some of the shortcomings of these OBD2 scanners. While these scanners are marketed to DIY consumers, their limitations leave users with a lot of guesswork. They list impressive-sounding capabilities on the box, but when it comes to troubleshooting and analyzing data, they often fall short. Basic functionality might be there, but trying to print out a readable report or perform in-depth data analysis can be tedious and restrictive. As they say, ‘you get what you pay for,’ but at $400, I expected more. With 30 years in computers, I find the data output confounding and surprisingly basic given today’s complex vehicles. Without proper training, DIY users can easily misinterpret the data, leading to frustration.”

Thanks for the very informative tutorial. One question-can you access all live data points while a car is running in idle or do some data points like transmission temp and coolant temp have to be taken while the car is being driven in gear to get accurate reads. Please let me know. Thanks.
@obdnerdz Жыл бұрын
A few can be seen with key on engine off, but most need the car to be running. I usually check with the car already warmed up and idling. But if looking at something like the ECT I might check it first with the engine cold and watch it as it changes and warms up. Just to verify a low and high reading.

Thanks for doing these videos. Was wondering is there a booklet or sheets available that would explain what you just talked about here? I would really like to learn what these data stream measures mean and what the ranges should be on a car to attempt a diagnostic and not just jumping on codes and changing out parts. Again, thanks so much for your channel.

I see you have your vehicle in "on" position. My instructions on my amtifo do not say to turn the vehicle on. Just to plug it into the obd inlet. My engine light went on and I'm about to use this obdII meter they gave me for the first time.

Hello, great video! I was wondering the correct procedure for getting the live data. I have a Motopower mp69033 scanner. My understanding is, insert it to dlc, then turn car on to read dtc codes then while still connected, turn the engine on and running to stream the live data while car is warmed up. I’m worried about damaging anything while starting the engine with the scanner connected, thank you!

@@obdnerdz you deserve more, man. For some reason, information on reading and interpreting Live OBD2 data isn't available here on KZbin. Where do you find the ranges for PIDs? I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze 1.4 and I am having trouble finding my vehicle's specific ranges. Any help in the right direction would be much appreciated.
@obdnerdz Жыл бұрын
I usually look for a factory service manual to see if it has what I need. But they can get kinda expensive. Sometimes you can pick them up cheap used on ebay. You may want to try a site like cruzetalk.com and just leave a message to see if someone has one that can share the range your looking for. I also see a few people posted some 2014 Cruze 1.4 live data logs on pidfusion.net (just found this website this morning and haven't used it before), not sure if that might give you something to compare thats helpful. Good luck.

Ok...But which side is bank one and which is bank two. Your diagram doesn't not decifer front or rear of engine.

I wish i could answer this with a definitive answer, but different manufacturers can have it on different sides. I usually verify for that specific vehicle in a shop manual or online.
