Thank you for all of your great videos and content. Do you need the gateway if you want to voice control the shades?

Good question. Yes, a PowerView Gateway is required for SmartHome integration.

Thanks for the video. (I am an engineer and homeowner). You must have a lot of customers who need to retrofit older systems. Can you help - I have old shades that work just fine with a remote control (two rooms, two remotes, there must be a channel switch somewhere to keep them separate). So, these older shades work on RF and IR. Will the Gateway version 3 work with these shades? Does the 3 output the RF commands as well as Bluetooth? Or do I need a Gen 2, will that send an RF signal to the shades mimicking the handheld remote? Thanks!

The simple answer is no. These systems are completely different. Even Gen 2 & 3 are not integratabtle. They can work together when you have a Hub for Gen 2 and a Gateway for Gen 3 via the app, but one Hub or Gateway do not have the ability to communicate with the other version. One is WiFi and the other is Bluetooth. There may be some engineering types that have worked out a solution, but I’ve not heard of it. I hope you can find a workable solution.

Given the distance limitations of Bluetooth, I am not sure how a Powerview G3 device can handle 15+ shades unless these are all in close proximity. I just got 8 shades distributed in 3 areas (2 rooms plus living room) and a single hub located in the middle can only access/recognize 2 of the shades. I believe I will end up needing a total of 3 hubs (1 per area). If the communication between the hub and the shade was WIFI this wouldn't be an issue so my guess is that Hunter Douglas switched from WIFI to Bluetooth due to its low power consumption at the expense of requiring more hubs to extend the range.

I appreciate your comment. In all the jobs I’ve done with multiple room I’ve had no issues with Bluetooth contacts with the shades. One of the projects has 15 shades in 7 rooms and it is using 1 Gateway and it has 100% success. I have a couple of whole house jobs that I’m currently working on and in one case we ordered 2 Gateways. I would strongly suggest contacting Hunter Douglas customer support to see if maybe you are having some type of flaw in your Gateway. I’m sorry that the new tech is causing you any issues. I am grateful for the feedback on this product.

I have a solution. Forget powerview if you can reach a cord. Don't be so dame lazy. Yes I said it . Nope . don't regret it!... Does your internet make you coffee too?!

@@ritadamayanti2087 its too late for that. I wish I had a cord option in addition to the automation. However, these blinds do not come with a cord so you have to rely on a remote control and/or a Smartphone App. What I want out of PowerView is not the convenience to prevent me from having to manually reach a cord. I want the automation at certain times of the day to roll up or down the shades depending on the sun patterns. It really helps cool down the apartment and also control AC Costs plus protects the furniture from damaging UV.

Thank you for this information! Really happy that some automation systems are offering bluetooth, as my wifi is starting to get saturated.

Have you or anyone else had any success in swaping out a power view legacy gen 2 motor with a new power view gen 3 motor in an existing shade so all can work off of 1 gen 3 pebble remote?

My unofficial answer is yes. My official answer is no. ;)
