12:19 DUDE WHEN I READ “THE NIGHTINGALE” I WAS LIKE WOW I’M GRATEFUL FOR HAVING ELECTRICITY OR WATER OR I CAN CALL MY FAMILY. LIKE? i was so grateful and it really became a surprise for me, because the book is so fucking depressing but somehow managed to make you feel glad about your life? weird and stunning.

Thank you for this video. It’s 3:30 at night and I just finished reading this amazing book. My face is so sore from my palms wiping the tears away and my throat is on fire. This video was the therapy I needed. I also love Elsa and think she is such a queen. She reminds me so much of my own mother and that just takes my emotions to a whole new level 😂 The way Kristin Hannah can write is like a super power. Mind-blowing.

Omg … I have not read this book but seeing you cry… I cried…. wanting to give you a hug. I loved how you talked about not having much interest in history while in high school (me too), but yet you researched concerning the “dust ball period”, making notes, high lighting and tabbing your book. I love how you talked about how this book mirrors what’s going on today in our world ( pandemic, Covid, economy, food prices, wages, how we treat immigrants). Thank you for all your deep reflections. I stopped at the spoiler warning because I want to read this book for my history month. Thank you for sharing. Love your channel ❤

I read this book also. We don’t have the kind of guts it took people to survive during the depression years. Who today could survive living in that field and give birth; that was a very sad part of the book for me when they buried the baby. Kristin Hannah is one of the best authors of our time. You were correct when you said she makes you care so much for her characters, you become a part of the story.

Super video Gabby, you are spot on. The book broke my heart but also the characters were inspiring in the face of adversity. It was so appropriate to link the situation with present times as well. I keep putting off reading The Nightingale as I am a bit scared that it will not live up to my expectations or leave me a blubbering wreak.

I loved this book so much and I hadn’t cried reading a book for years but I did with this one. I could really relate to Elsa as a mother trying her best for her kids and not forgetting that massive responsibility in her journey unlike so many male centric plots. I thought how relevant the whole story was to today. The whole climate issue and where people could have helped by their planting, the migration issue was powerful (I’m Irish and we suffered a great famine in 1845, 25% of our population emigrated mostly to America on coffin ships). I think every person in those States affected by the dust bowl should read this, to see that once they were migrants themselves and how they were treated. The poverty was shocking and the way they stayed indebted to the corrupt landowners. This book has made me so grateful for what I have, even the simple things like a cup of coffee and running water. So many people in our world don’t even have fresh drinking water. I love those charity gifts where you can help donate towards a water pump for a village, because it’s usually women that have to get the water for their families and we should help each other if we can. Thanks for a great vlog Gabby, you made me cry again! with you. Love that you are doing the yoga, I must give it a try. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Love it. 💕

Ok. When your cried, it totally made me cry and I haven’t read the book yet. 😢 The Nightingale has been the only book (so far) that has made me ugly cry. The dust bowl talk made me remember that movie.

Read The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck in high school and that is a beautiful & overwhelming family story of the Dust Bowl & their survival ---The Four Winds reminds me of Steinbeck's book in some ways. Had to stop after reading several chapters because I needed space to absorb the story & will, of course, return to the book before too long. The book cover design with the golden, embossed wheat is beautiful. This a deep story with amazing characters -- so well written. It seems like a new classic.
