I want to read Violet also, but I've decided to try out Kill Creek first. I know you like that one! Then I'll pick up Violet if I like Kill Creek. I'm currently reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It's not scary or a thriller but it's more of an emotional drama- not my cup of tea but I'm enjoying it.

If you save Night of the Mannequins until the last day of October and the very beginning of November, you have a book down and finished for IndigAThon! :) Myself and Brody (et tu brody) are co-hosts and I know you like thrillers, and there's some other great Indigenous thrillers out there! Plus, you have Winter Counts and that counts for a lot of prompts! :D

I really enjoyed Our Kind Of Cruelty. I only ever hear of people hating it & I do understand why it might grate on some people. The Nesting was incredibly disappointing for me. (spoilers) Enjoyed it while reading, but it led nowhere and the happy ending spit in the face of the supposed message and values of the book. Tom and Clive just got away with it all? The only people the nokken ever targeted weren't even important to the build (other than arguably Aurelia) which makes the big bad seem incompetent and the message of nature fighting back convoluted. And Lexi defeats it after very little fanfare. Seemed pretty convenient that Lexi just happened to accidentally read the norse story folktale to Gaia that told them how to defeat the nokken like two days before they'd need the info. Also I really don't believe that the true ancient name of the nokken needed to defeat it would be the modern name of the fjord that it resides in. And then Tom just finishes his stupidly ambitious architecture project and we end the book without it being totally clear that he even learned a lesson in fucking with nature or that he's going to be a better dad moving forward. Also wtf was that shit with the body they found that Clive desecrated? I really didn't expect such a big plot point introduced in the last 100 pages and stretched over multiple chapters to lead literally nowhere. Also 'schizophrenic' is not a fucking adjective to describe the weather CJ,, really expected better from a book with such an emphasis on mental health. Most disappointing book I've read in a long time. I'm reading "Build Your House Around my Body" right now and loving it for anyone looking for a good ghost story

Bly Manor is actually based on the novel The Turn of the Screw. It was made into a movie recently The turning with Finn woflhard but it sucked. Netflix did a way better job imo
