A mere decade after everyone else, I finally read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This is my reaction to the book, chapter by chapter as I read it.

Having read this series twice, it was really fun to watch you experience this chapter by chapter and see your predictions.

honestly i personally loved loved loved peeta, especially in the following two books. i’d say the first book was probably my second favorite, and that catching fire was my #1 the new characters are great, and honestly just transform the series into a whole new style. i hope you end up reading the rest, even if you don’t vlog it, because you will not regret it. loved this video too :)

Thank you! I likely won't vlog when I read the next books in the series but I expect I'll make a review video when I get to them.

What a fun idea, Claudia! I loved how you seemed more and more tired and unkempt as the chapters wore on. 😄 I like it the least of all three novels (although I still like it quite a lot).

Thank you! Haha, I recorded this over two days, after work, so I already started pretty tired and then just got more tired the more I spent the evening reading :D

I love this video! That was really fun to watch, I'm glad you finally read The Hunger Games! We also have the same edition (I bought the trilogy way back when traveling in Edinburg in 2012), which is I believe the most gorgeous one ever made for the series.

I really loved this and reexperiencing the book like this. I read the books in 2012 as vacation reads and devoured them really quickly but I have to say this is one of the cases where I like the movies better. I still think the love story was unncessary though. I hope once you read the other two books in the series you will vlog about them like this again. 😊

I’m watching Hunger Games content until someone mentions how ducked up Cato’s death is, as a game with my friend lol, and even though you didn’t do that, this is the best piece of hunger games content I’ve watched so far. You actually go in detail chapter by chapter and aren’t afraid to give spoilers. :D

I love the discussion popping up lately about The Hunger Games. Stripped Cover Lit has also started discussing it in detail and it brings back memories for me, since I loved it when I was fourteen. I'm so glad you decided to do this, Claudia! I don't think you were living under a rock. Anyway, this just means your reactions are fresh and totally your own, unaffected by much of the hype that was around at the time. The Welsh morning sunlight is beautiful too, by the way. ☀️

I was a little worried that it wouldn't be much fun watching you read an old YA book, but it was! Whew! Once again venturing out from under your rock you try something new. I didn't get much passion from the Katniss/Peter romance in the book (nor in the film), but it was ok. Collins is a competent but simple writer & can tell an enjoyable & engrossing story. Very professional. In 1999 there was a book by Japanese author Koushun Takami, Battle Royale, which told the story of 50 junior high school students who are kidnapped, dropped in a remote location, and forced to fight each other to the death in a program run by the authoritarian Japanese government (an alternate history). It was also a film. Not throwing shade at Collins, just noting that the premise has been done before. This was fun seeing you deconstruct a modern "classic."

Huh, I've not heard of Battle Royal, but now I kind of want to read it and compare it to the Hunger Games - I guess the idea of having a glatiators style battle to the death in a dystopian society is not entirely unique.

Its book trilogy and there are 4 movies as last one was split. I love hunger games very much both books and movies, in my opinion after lotr hunger games movies come best at being closest to books. Also if you end up watching the first movie def watch how the it was made too, its incredible almost as good as movie itself

I really didn't mind the romance in this because most of it I read as Katniss pretending and not actually in love with him. It made it more interesting than just immediate love. I don't think I overall liked it as much as you, but I did think it was kind of okay. I think I was disappointed by where it went later, but that seems to be an unpopular opinion.

Interesting, I'll definitely pick up the rest of the series at some point (though I probably won't film myself reading it this time :P ). The romance... it kind of felt unavoidable, but I agree that the author put a bit of a twist on it.

I haven't been able to find videos of you reading the 2 other books in this series, and if you haven't read them, I would just like to recommend you to do so. The story takes a different turn from a lot of other YA books, it's hard to say very much without spoiling, but there is (imo) some great commentary on the atrocities and repercussions of war, and the dangers (and seduction) of living in a dictatorship... I don't know how to write it to sound appealing to read, lol, but for me, these books are different from the stream of YA romancy books that seems to saturate the market at the moment (these last 10+ years...I feel so old...) ;) Anyways, great video! Liked and subscribed :)

I wonder if she's read Warrior Cats. I personally think the new books of that are horrid but I love the old books. I also love Hunger Games. I hate the romantic part though, I Dont know why but I think he should have stayed evil in The Mockingjay it would have been a good conflict!

I keep meaning to reread The Hunger Games and watching this video has made me want to even more haha. The first book in the series was always my favourite one. I like Katniss because she isn't like "the girl next door" or the "sweet girl", she's a very different girl being represented, especially for YA which is really cool. Peter, "filthy traitor" 😂 I enjoyed the romance as something being used to win the Games but as an actual romance I hated it. This was such an enjoyable video to watch!
@SpinstersLibrary
@SpinstersLibrary 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think the characterisation of Katniss really made the book for me, she's a really well-written main character. Especially in first-person present tense narration, I find that really important.

Hey Claudia, I love this kind of video! I haven't read the books yet, but I've seen the movies a few times and heard they're quite close to the books and I do feel like reading them at some point. Do you plan on watching the movies?

I watched the first movie after reading the book, because so many commenters recommended it, and I thought it was really good! So I'll continue with both the book and the movie series (books first though)
