Yes I love short books! They are such an endorphin rush from the 'quick' accomplishment! I'm so exited for this video!

I would love to see the cozy crime vlog, but they all sound very fun to watch! I'm delighted that you bake your own bread and make your own pasta. I'd love to hear more about your motivations for that and the other things you do that fits into a slow lifestyle. Was it how you were raised, a conscious choice, just bc that is what you enjoy, what is easier for you? Do you see it as a slow lifestyle and is that what you set out to achieve?

I love your vlogs. Good theme, short books. I'm not usually a short books reader, but I've been in kind of a reading slump for a while and novella's got me out of it. Sort of. Have you already read the Murderbot series? They are also short and I've been very much enjoying them. Really liked the cooking montages. I was wondering if I could make dumpling wrappers in a pasta machine. Great to see that you do it like that. I'm definitely going to try this. The dumplings look great. I hope that you can get your appointment with the handtherapist soon! That really sucked.

Mrs. Caliban definitely caught my interest. I'll have to have the Faber edition shipped over because the American cover is a huge, cartoonish frog face. It's one of those "what were they thinking?!" cover designs.

Speaking of short books, I loved A Psalm for the Wild-built by Becky Chambers (came out this year). A beautiful, kind, peaceful book that is neither dull nor cloying. I have read it 3 times already. It's under 200 pages.

This was interesting and fun, as ever. Mrs Caliban stands out as a book I must get, and I feel inspired now to put together a pile of shorter books to get cracking with straight after Christmas. I agree that Driver's Seat and Passing are good reminders of what can be achieved with brilliant, economical writing. I hope your appointments happen soon!

I was dreading my end of the year reading till Jen posted this video and I thought I would grab some of my short reads and bam! Found a new favorite of the year. Hope you have as fruitful a time Fiona :D (And yes, I also ordered Mrs. Caliban -- started this AM and it's as interesting as Jen says!)

Wow! Did I love this?! I loved this. I downloaded Mrs. Caliban this morning and am already enjoying it. Also, from an earlier this month video I picked up my copy of "Follow Me to Ground" (I was a bit intimidated by it till you talked about it) and WOAH! That has totally gotten me out my reading slump. It feels like someone has taken a tooth brush to all the nooks and crannies of my brain. Thanks for getting me excited to read!

Watched this while making dinner and it cheered me up so much! Your videos always make my day better (and also envious of the yummy food you make - those dumplings looked incredible and so did the soup). I’m really intrigued by Mrs Caliban, and I’m quite intrigued too by The Annual Migration of Clouds despite the world building being the book. Love the sound of all the possible future vlogs, but got especially excited at the mention of cosy crime! 🙂📚

Woke up early, third day since going out and about and still recovering from that- glad to have some energy back 😍 this is a treat for my morning. You've inspired me to bake some bread, soda bread is my fave so it will be that! Will probably put on another one of your vlogs where you bake, for company. I'm curious about Mrs Caliban and very much looking forward to your cosy crime vlog, I got into The Vampire Knitting Club and while it's not my favourite writing, the characters are wonderful and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy so I'm on the lookout for other cosy crime 😍 also excited for the TV idea, and who did it better! I love your PJ bottoms when you're talking to the tree people- do you know where they're from? Solidarity for your appointment frustration. Having similar trouble xx

I LOVED The Therapist. I actually was a huge fan of the ending...I guess I wasn't bothered by it being predictable because it just wrapped up everything thematically so well, I was just all over it. Sad you didn't get to the Hearing Trumpet but also kinda glad you didn't either cause I'm currently reading it right now. So, no spoilers today!

I'm interested in Lark, or at least the publisher of Lark. One of my kids is severely dyslexic, and does not enjoy reading at all because it is so exhausting for them. There are a number of publishers and authors working more in this area (notably Henry Winkler), but more to choose from is very very welcome. As for short books, I have been going through some of the short books in M C Beaton's catalogue, and have really enjoyed the Poor Relation series in particular. Have seen some criticisms that the characters aren't fleshed out, but I think the reviewer might not have realized that you really have to read the whole series in order to get the full picture. The books are not deep by any means, but they are very fun -- and relatively short.

Maybe check "The head of the saint" by Socorro Acioli a contemporary brazilian author that has been praised. It is a short book and has been translated into english =D Lots of love!
