Personally I think both sides have gotten a bit crazy, the people bashing on the game this much and the people unconditionally praising it to counter the haters. Personally to me the game is a solid 8/10, I think the original is overall better in most aspects but that doesn't mean Frostpunk 2 is like the worst game of all time and horrible. If anything I just want them to fix the problems I have with it (mainly that the difficulty falls away too fast as I felt like I was able to snowball and build huge resource stockpiles that made it impossible to lose) so that it can live up to or even pass the original. I just wish more people would be more nuanced about the games but I guess that's just sort of how it works on the internet.

I do not agree about frostpunk is better on alot of aspects. first game was for casual after youo figure out what is going on and know the map. this one adds more complexity with other mechanics make you more hesitant to make choice. Best I can say is both are good games and not say better.
@WarlordSdocy2 ай бұрын
@@cemoguz2786 Interesting, cause personally I have the exact opposite experience. Frostpunk 1 felt like it provided a challenge throughout my whole playthrough as trying to keep up my tech to have good enough heat while also keeping up resources felt like it was always a challenge through the whole game. Sure there were moments when things were going good but a temperature drop on the horizon would threaten to make things tough again. Frostpunk 2 has challenge in the early stages when you're just getting establish but once I reach a point where I have close to a million fuel and food stockpiled it sort of just becomes impossible to lose which takes the a lot of the fun out of the experience. Atleast that was my experience playing through on Steward, I'm doing a Captain difficulty play through now so I'll see if my opinion changes after that but I feel like it won't cause there isn't really anything that significantly challenges you after you start stockpiling tons of resources.
@muratira12 ай бұрын
Some of these are rather cringy, but there are legitimate issues with the games. The music generally felt better/more bombastic in Frostpunk 1 (especially the storm music). The railroading feels overall worse, with the last chapter in particular (which I will not spoil) happening even with max trust and relations. Debatable UI design in some places. And districts, by themselves, do feel extremely weak. Unless you construct buildings in them they are garbage and in some cases those singular buildings will be worth more than the whole district. As for the 'modern audiences' thing. If I see developers say something like that at least I would get early warning that they don't care about the previous fans and are about to make some slop that nobody wants.
@paxluporum44472 ай бұрын
@muratira1 For me it's the intro cinematic that sums up everything. In Frostpunk 1 it sounds like a speech the Captain was giving himself to the Londoners to inspire them into staying. Just listen to it again. The words cut so deep. The sequel cinematic is week as all can be and did nothing to get the blood pumping.
@muratira12 ай бұрын
@@paxluporum4447 For me a weak intro can pretty easily be compensated for, so it's not that big of a factor. If a game manages to captivate you as the story goes and the last thing, the ending, is not horrible as to poison that captivation, a weak intro COULD be ignored.
@paxluporum44472 ай бұрын
@muratira1 You're right of course. I'm still buying this game when I get paid. But, it doesn't make me confident in my future purchase. Maybe the game will still captivate me. At this point with everything I've seen and heard it could go either way.

I would focus less on the number of hours spent playing behind these reviews in the future. People persevere, they've waited a long time for this plus $40-60 to play it, so of course they're going to play it. I spent 11.6 hours in total and I can confidently say that Frostpunk 1 was a substancially more enjoyable experience than FP2, yet I'm still going to get my money's worth playing it. My playtime does not lessen my negative thoughts on the game.

I feel like they've done really well to preserve the feeling of Frostpunk 1, but on a larger scale, which makes sense- people have been living for 30 years, of course the ones who survive will be in larger groups. And I feel like a lot of the intimacy of the first game is preserved by the council and factions. It also makes you feel terrible about your actions. All those poor seals... Can't wait to keep playing. Edit: Also, the "DEI/modern audience" stuff is so funny. No matter your race, age, gender, etc. you can mine coal for the generator. The City Must Survive!

So many of the negative reviews are just wild, I’m glad I’m not the only flabbergasted by them 😅 I just finished my first campaign a little bit ago and I enjoyed myself, the ending got me hyped for upcoming expansions/DLC! While there are things that I think could be improved in FP2 and I am absolutely obsessed with FP1, even the original felt like they could’ve done a lot more with the game, but I still love it. I do hope this sparks 11Bit Studio to revisit the original and give us some new updates/DLC and/or a remaster of the game. It’s not an old game but it had so much untapped potential, which is why we’re seeing such ridiculous opposition to its predecessor.

I actually tried to give it a chance. Bought it, played it for 2 hours and thought about supporting the studio that made my other favourite games like Frostpunk and This war of mine but I ended up refunding it as I knew I wasn't going to play it ever again. The Graphics and feeling is definitely Frostpunk but the gameplay just feels basic and simple. Feels... arcade or mobile. For example in the first mission I played at my pace and got into trouble running out of food in time. On the second playthrough I just built all the districts from the start and finished the mission with 20 weeks to spare so just waited around.... Doesn't feel as tense as the first one.

TL;DR: Bashing niche enthusiasts' opinion on a niche game is a surefire way to not have said franchise in the future. The 'it has been dumbed down' crowd isn't wrong. Don't know why it is considered a hot take. FP2 seems like a fine game, but it will frustrate the more... 'strategy driven' gamers that were expecting a game in the same vein as FP1. I've lived through it in XCOM: Enemy Unknown (2012) vs XCOM (classic, '94). Of course it has been dumbed down, some of it unwarranted (not even UFO macro-management? cmon). That's why people spun-off Xenonauts (1 and 2) after XCOM:EU release, for an example. Also, it doesn't make XCOM:EU a bad game - just a modernized, dumbed down version of XCOM. A niche franchise is supposed to keep its niche core happy, whilst trying to appeal to a wider audience to increase profits, striking a balance. Nobody is saying it is easy, but check Chimera Squad's (an extremely dumbed down version of the already dumbed down XCOM) lesson for a reference of what not to do. It is a shame that Frostpunk took a turn into dumbing down (we can see the writing on the wall), but it still can be remedied by Free DLC (meaning: missing features made available for core, optional for 'plebs') on console launch.

Bro, if you litteraly used MILLIONS of food before even finishing the game, then don't you think that's on you ? Frostpunk is supposed to be a hard game about gestion and planification. You should have seen you were on an unsustainable pass and that you needed to hurry (or start over).
