Mollie Reads I wake up an hour early everyday. No one likes getting up early but honestly I am so used to it now that I prefer to start my day off with my book and coffee. I get upset if I push snooze too many times. I also always read on my lunch break and make sure to take easy lunches so I can quickly get to my book. (Also, audiobooks. You can do housework and read at the same time!! My library offers Overdrive which is like Audible but free.)

The Red Rising trilogy is phenomenal girl, I definitely agree with your husband!! It’s super fast paced and action packed, it may even help with your reading slump because of how fast paced and gripping it is 😋

Yay! I love your vlogs. I think a lot of us go through periods where we are busy and can't fit much reading in. Right now I read on my 30 minute lunch break and before bed to unwind. It is taking me about 2 weeks to get through a book. It's fine and you can just read when you can, no pressure. I like your videos whether you read anything or not. Love your hair BTW!!

Thank you so much, Krissy!! :) Love a good 30-min lunch break read!

I love your new hair cut, it looks great! I also love your big cat mug! I have been reading well so far over the last two months but I can relate to not having a lot of time to read. The last couple of weeks have been busy for me and my reading has slowed down which is frustrating but am hopeful it will start to pick up again. Here's hoping things slow down a bit so you can enjoy reading again!

I absolutely LOVE your hair, Mollie!! Also, I feel you about being in a reading slump....the struggle is real! I have a hard time prioritizing reading when there are so many other things going on around me or on my to-do list as well. Let's try to change our habits and give ourselves some more reading time! :)

Just having one dog, especially during snowy and rainy days, means cleaning daily. I had no idea. Plus, with hardwood it's more obvious if we have Golden Retriever hair everywhere. I like your reading vlogs and you have a really nice house. Nice neighborhood, too! When I make time to read it's usually knowing that I am just replacing and pushing off other things, such as cleaning, cooking, or instead of watching a show together my husband and I will read together. I'm currently reading The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden. It's book 2 in her trilogy and I love it. Also, when I feel a cold sore I put Abreva and it really helps.

Thanks so much! I need to pick up Katherine Arden sometime! And YES Abreva for the win, lol x

I feel like I’m the same as you on reading when everything is settled, like I feel I only have “time to read” when I have enough time to finish almost the entire book, but this year I’ve started a journal, just a personal journal but with some additions from a bullet journal, like an habit tracker AND a page tracker, and basically I put every day of that month and bars with numbers of pages ( there are a bunch on Pinterest )and because I’m kind of OCD and I don’t want to have a day with nothing, I read at least 5 pages just to filled something in that day, books and Lala has a spread like that on her bullet journal if you want to check it out, btw do put Red Rising on your priority list 🙌🏻💕

Red Rising HAS to go to the top of your TBR immediately because A) I BAWLED in the first 50 pages... how many writers can do that?? and B) It is a rollercoaster of strategy and plot twists and companionship and camaraderie and never has a boring moment!

I feel like this is a pep talk for me! I read 4 books in January and got 4 books for February... but I’m struggling to even finish two... I’m determined now to get the second book done by March 1!

Small tip for cold sores. Take some yogurt and place it on it for a bit. Do off and on through the day. Just let it sit for a bit then remove. Helps heal it way quicker than anything I have used before. If you feel it coming on start this right away and may not even form.

Omg yeahhhhh geography isn't my strong suit LOL!!! We lived about an hour northwest of Nashville, very close to the KY border. Nashville was a cool town. We aren't much for going out to bars, but we loved the flea market there hahaha. I haven't been to Houston yet. I think that's the only major Texas city I haven't visited yet!

Mollie, I'm as slumped as you are! As someone who comes here more from an editing viewpoint than a reader's, I'm super impressed you get ANY pleasure reading done. After a day of heavy editing, it's the last thing I want to do, and that makes me oh so sad. It's good to know that there editors can work their own reading into their days. Thanks for inspiring me! Also, I love to run and I'm in the middle of trying to drop some weight I've gained from switching to a desk job. I'm trying to drink just water for the next week (well, water and 1 morning coffee), and now I want a beer sooooo badly...!!! :)
@MollieReads6 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness, Holly, I'm so happy to hear from someone who really GETS it. Being an editor makes it so difficult to read for pleasure. Glad I'm not the only one! I just started running myself! I started the couch to 5k program, haha. To be honest though, I'm NOT a fan of running so far. My twin and my dad are both marathon freaks, and I'm over here huffing and puffing after a mile run. Lol!
@sinphantom6 жыл бұрын
I started when I was a teen, so that might be part of it. There is just something therapuetic about running (outside, can't stand the tredmill) and listening to good music, a good podcast, or a good book! (Thank goodness for audiobooks on my poor tired editor eyes). Not everyone loves to run (I don't understand those people, but it's a thing), so you may or may not start to get addicted to it. I'm in my thirties now and I usually do 6 to 8 miles. Once you start to progress and feel strong after a run, you will love trying to challenge yourself again the next time. Thank you so much for responding to my comment! I also sent you an email, but again, I'm not sure if you got it!

I find i go through periods where I'll either be reading heaps OR watching lots of Netflix / KZbin - rarely both in sensible amounts lol :) I love reading too & used to feel guilty when i was watching instead of reading. I've come to the conclusion though, that either way I'm absorbing stories - which for me is the main enjoyment / purpose of reading. Sometimes I'm too lazy to want to work for the story (reading) so I make actors jump about and do the work for me (Netflix) = win! :)
@MollieReads6 жыл бұрын
TOTALLY hear you on that. Watching Netflix is such a passive way to consume stories... I think that's why I gravitate toward it too!

I hope you get out of your slump soon! But be gentle with yourself when it comes to your reading. I have to remind myself of that sometimes when I’m just not in the mood to read or I have to put other things before my reading. Sometime it just doesn’t happen and that’s ok! ☺️❤️ I should put exercising before reading every day haha I’m working on it. Your hair is so cute!!

Hey! Aw thank you so much! I'm a freelance book editor. :) I love it a lot! xx

Do you think maybe using reading as a reward might help with the slump. I recently started doing this at weekends when I am doing the housework. I have to do 50mins of housework and then I can read for 10mins. I set alarms on my phone to mark the start and finish of every 10mins. I felt it really motivated me to do my housework which I struggle with but I also enjoyed those 10 minute bursts of storytime as well as they were more valuable. For you it could be that you have a set time when you can read then you won't be wondering when you can read as you already know.
@MollieReads6 жыл бұрын
Omg THIS! This is my favorite thing to do, and I haven't done it in a while. I need to do it ASAP. It gives me the freedom to enjoy reading when I have a million things to do!
@LynnetteReads6 жыл бұрын
Mollie Reads it was probably from one of your videos I first heard about it and it stuck with me until recently I thought I have to try it. It was really great because I will pick up a book and avoid doing other things but it kept me focused and I still got to read. Hope you get to try it soon!
@ahranelliebae20326 жыл бұрын
The Red Rising series for sure helped me overcome my reading slump because it's a super fast-paced, packed with action and drama. :) I'm sorry I keep pushing you on this lol, but I really, really want to hear your thoughts on it! Anyways, I really relate with you in terms of feeling like I never have enough time to read. I recently started to stop myself from watching youtube (which I am doing now haha) & netflix and instead just pick up a book. It feels less relaxing at first but once I get going I never regret choosing reading over binge-watching something!
@MollieReads6 жыл бұрын
OK, I think you've convinced me, lol! And seriously, you just motivated me to cut out all the wasted time with Netflix/KZbin... I'm sure it starts to feel more and more relaxing the more you slowly change those habits.x

I am the kind of person that if I feel skimpy, I just don’t read and I do other hobbies like tv or cross stitch or the many other things I love to do. And I find that when I haven’t been reading for awhile I miss it! I also agree about being intentional and making time for reading. I set aside about an hour every night for reading. But if I’m skimpy I don’t push myself bc for me that makes it worse. It’s cool that Aaron is a reader too! I am actually getting my hubs to read Dark Matter even though he’s not a reader bc it was so good that I thought he would like it. He says it’s ok so far 😜 which I think is a compliment since he’s so hard to please lol

I agree. I wonder how people can read 5-6 books a week when there is life stuff to do. School, work, kids, cleaning, dishes, just other things to do. I am the same as you as I can can only read when I feel comfortable that other things are done. 🤷🏼♂️

Red Rising is awesome! It will get you out of your slump. If you wait for everything to be perfect before you read (or insert any other favorite hobby) then you will never read. Life is always happening and chores will always need doing. So plan some reading time into your routine just like you do everything else. If you read one book then still you are reading. I think you only feel like you are in a slump because you need content for book tube videos where as most of us don't have that pressure. Also don't forget your job involves reading and you read all day and most of us don't have that condition either.

I feel like editors and translators are often very invisible. But without books would either not exist or be considerable be worse. It's an important job! Do you think good editors have to be so invisible? Any books you'd like to share which you've edited?
@MollieReads6 жыл бұрын
It's true. I think good editors are invisible. The author's voice must shine through, not the editor's!
