I love that no matter where you set up the camera in your mom’s house, there are books somewhere in the background 😂 makes my heart happy

Ahaha they are EVERYWHERE - god help my mother when 400 more turn up on her doorstep this month from my flat in London (I'm officially moving back until December so let go of my lease).

Hey! Loving those vlogs ♥ Also, I feel a little bit cheesy saying this but I think if people make you feel good, it's always a good thing to tell them so here we go: I wanted to tell you that videos like this one or your LGBT+ book recommendations and your positive talking of all things LGBT+ really helped me accept my bisexuality. It's taken me years and a lot of working on myself but I now feel ready to scream it to the world, and that's thanks to people like you! And on a slightly other subject but not really, seeing you being so unapologetic about your political views and your feminism also helped me affirm mine in front of others and being more vocal against all injustice. I picked up books like Feminism for the 99% thanks to one of your videos and it was clearly one of the best books I've read!

As someone who has struggled with depression for over 30 years and so has a passion for mental health awareness, thank you for being open about your counseling journey, every person who is helps destigmatize counseling & mental health care. And thx for adding more books to my TBR 🙂📚💜

That book you're editing/contributing to sounds fascinating. I'm halfway through Who Do You Serve/Protect (I think it was your Tweet that led me to it), very eye opening.

Aw thank you! Yeah when I was sitting in the garden listing to the birds I just knew I didn't want to put music over all of it in this vlog and just embrace all the sounds.

I literally asked people on Instagram and Twitter for their lgbtq book recommendations and it was lacking in responses. But you posted this and it makes me so happy now I can dive in to lgbtq books!

Love this vlog! All of the books look brilliant, you've really tempted me to read dread nation! Also have to say hearing you talk about counselling is so important, it definitely isn't a linear process and not a fix all, I'm so glad it was a positive experience for you! Hope you're keeping well x

A reading vlog for a Sunday morning - yeessss!! I'm so pathetic - can't read horror, it all terrifies me but some really interesting books.
@JeansThoughts4 жыл бұрын
I HATE horror films but have gradually found myself enjoying horror books more and more - I think I feel like I have more control of the visual elements which are so affecting that way aha (plus beautiful prose makes it better).
@lindacarson54294 жыл бұрын
@@JeansThoughts yes to beautiful prose. You may have encouraged me to give it a go - will break myself in gently though!

Totally, would 100% recommend something subtly creepy like White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi.
@melissagalliford97474 жыл бұрын
I can’t remember if you’ve ever mentioned reading Red White and Royal Blue but if you haven’t I strongly recommend it as a queer lit romance, it was a five star read for me and I don’t usually pick up romance 👌
@JeansThoughts4 жыл бұрын
My only reason for reluctance is I really don't like the modern royalty trope aha.
@melissagalliford97474 жыл бұрын
Jean Bookishthoughts ah, understandable.. but counter point... there’s a certain satisfaction in watching people telling homophobic royals to go f*#k themselves (paraphrasing)

That I can definitely imagine aha!

Somehow I often read my horror/thrillers in summer.. sounds like I'll be picking up Rules for Vanishing soon! You might enjoy the Agatha Oddly Series by Lena Jones, a middlegrade mystery series set in London. I'm in the middle of the first book now, it's so much fun!
@JeansThoughts4 жыл бұрын
Actually now that you mention it I think I'm the same! Thrillers and horror on long summer days aha. And thank you, I will look it up :D

Jean--check out Winterhouse by Ben Guterson! I listened to it recently on audiobook and I think you'd like it. I almost didn't pick it up because it was labeled urban fantasy (which is not my favorite), but it is not! It is a middle grade mystery/fantasy set in a rambling old mansion/hotel where a young girl is mysteriously sent over the school holidays. There are lots of different mysteries including what happened to the proprietor's sister many years ago. Thanks for all your great recommendations :)
