I loved 'And every morning the way home gets longer and longer'. Its a novella about a grandfather who has Alzheimer's. His loved ones are trying to cope with this change. It was so heartbreaking and emotional, for such a short read. Also I am loving 'To kill a mockingbird'. I am buddy reading that one with another booktuber.

I finished reading The Poppy War yesterday and please be aware that basically every single trigger warning you can imagine is applicable, so if you're a teen or are particularly sensitive, this isn't a book for you I'm afraid. I am serious, guys - self-harm, rape (including a pregnant woman at one point - just so you know), all kinds of violence and cruelty, and all very graphic! So please take that into account that this is a book about war and war crimes commited by ruthless, heartless people, and the contents do mirror that. Other than that, a really good book, made me think, asked some interesting questions, I gave it a 4.5/5 stars C:

Haha! I actually liked the "The Cruel Prince". I just finished reading it this morning. It was an easy read and I demolished the book in a day and a half. I don't read a lot of YA books, so maybe that is why I liked it??? I am looking forward to the sequel, "The Wicked King" which should be out in January. I have also just read "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" and enjoyed it, as well. It was different from my normal reading pursuits and found it to be a quick read. I have put "The Poppy War" on my list of books to read!!!

I'm glad that you enjoyed Emma since it is my favorite Jane Austen novel. And I agree with you on The Outsider. The beginning is really strong and had me very invested into the story, but towards the middle it became a bit slow and the end was okay in my opinion, I did expect more from the ending though. I haven't been able to read as much as I would like to. I pick up books, but after like 50 pages I put them down again.

I’m currently reading the second book in the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams. I read the first one in June and absolutely loved it and this one is just as amazing so far. They are quite big books and I know you have a couple of those to read before the end of the year, but if you ever have time, I absolutely recommend it. It’s the best fantasy I’ve read in a long time. I will try to pick up The Poppy War as soon as I can. You totally sold me on it.

My biggest gripe with The Cruel Prince was that it felt like backstory. It was all build up to the actual book Holly Black wanted to write. I read 300 pages of a 370 page book before anything happened and now I need to buy another book if I want the real story? No thanks. If a story needs that much build up make it a 600 page book - don't split it in half and call it two books when it's not. People are more likely to read a huge book than to read one boring one and be compelled to pick up the next!
@BookswithEmilyFox

I’m so glad you liked Emma! Did you know the movie Clueless is an adaptation? It’s so fun watching it again knowing that it’s an adaptation. Some of the literary devices like the constant miscommunication and conversations throughout the book where both people think they’re having completely different conversations while they’re talking to each other are in the movie too. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen it, but I would recommend. ❤️

Hey Emily. How are you? I have not read or listened to any of those books that you mentioned. So, I will have to check a few of them out. I am as of this summer, have been working on reading 2 massage therapy textbooks. I have been a professional massage therapist for the past 7 years, and in order to maintain my license, I have to take 12 hours of CEU classes. So, I am reading the Fibromayalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain Handbook and the Trigger Point Therapy Workbook. They are both really interesting. Also, for fun, I am also listening to the first book in the Crazy Rich Asians series by Kevin Kwan. This is also a fun and informative book with a not too heavy romance. I also just recently finished listening to the book Jim Henson A Biography by Brian Jay Jones. That was really eye opening. I have also taken a glimpse of the audio book Schultz and Peanuts a Biography by David Michaelis. I am also looking forward to listening to the book George Lucas A Life by Brian Jay Jones. I love Star Wars and the whole concept of the Force, so I thought that I would check that out. Yeah, it is odd, for it used to be the kiss of death for me to be assigned to read a biography when I was in school, but now that is changing. I am also going to try getting back to finishing the Gentleman Greatcoats series by Sebastien De Castell. I also do want to get to the Ken Liu series, and to the City of Brass and the Poppy War. I will drop you a note and let you know when I start working on those. Happy reading.

You should check out The Tiger's Daughter by K. Arsenault Rivera I hear it has really good F/F romance.

I felt the same way about The Cruel Prince!! I picked it up because of the hype but ended up so bored and disappointed. I can’t wait to read Leah on the Offbeat though! ☺️💕

xxsatinangelxx Would you recommend it to someone who doesn't read Fantasy often?

Grace Osas I would yes. It’s not a high fantasy but there are fantasy elements to the story the further you get into it. But it’s mostly about the characters and the Empire they despise. It’s really a fantastic series.

You should read The Good Girl. It's a good thriller/mystery novel. I really enjoyed it. :)

There are plenty of F/F romance books out there but admittedly most of them, or at least the ones I’ve read, aren’t very good or are just okay. Hopefully there will be more choices in the future.

Amazon is comparing The Poppy War to NK Jemisin. Thoughts? I would jump on anything as good as the Broken Earth trilogy.

Hey! Sorry if you've already read it and I missed you mentioning it, but I highly recommend Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke.

I read The Outsider too! I liked it a lot, I put it in my top 5 for the year so far, not because it was anything terribly surprising but because I just really enjoyed it. The main thing I didn't like was that it seemed to spoil the Bill Hodges Trilogy and I had bought all of the books but hadn't read them yet. So did it spoil the entire series/the ending of it? If it did I think I'll give the trilogy to a friend who wants to read it but hasn't read The Outsider yet.

I does contain some spoilers but I have no doubt you'll enjoy it anyway!
