James chuckled, trying to act normal. “Yeah, bruv, you’re gonna be moving mad, trust.” But inside, his mind was spiralling. Every time he looked at Fuhad, something twisted in his gut. As they posed together, things only got worse. Fuhad was flexing, giving the camera all sorts of heat. Meanwhile, James couldn’t even focus. The way Fuhad’s jacket hugged his shoulders, the cheeky smirk playing on his lips - it was too much. At one point, they did this pose where they were standing back to back, and James almost lost it. Fuhad’s cologne hit him like a slap in the face. Man smelled like a blend of success and temptation. “Bruv, I need a sec,” James mumbled, darting outside for air. Leaning against the wall outside the studio, James clutched his head. Get a grip, bruv. Man can’t be moving mad like this over his best mate. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, but the image of Fuhad looking all saucy in those tight jeans wouldn’t leave his mind. Inside, Fuhad was left standing alone, confused. “Where’s this brother gone now?” he muttered. He could sense something was off. James had been acting weird for a while, and it was starting to bug him. They’d been tight for years - inseparable, really. But now, James was distant, fidgety, like he couldn’t even make eye contact anymore. As James re-entered the room, Fuhad clocked the awkwardness right away. “You alright, fam? You’re moving kinda bookey these days, you know that?” James scratched the back of his head, heart pounding. “Nah, nah, man’s calm. Just needed a breather.” But Fuhad wasn’t buying it. “You sure? Man’s acting like he’s avoiding something. It’s not the podcast, is it?” James gulped. “Nah, bro, it’s not that.” Fuhad squinted, stepping closer. “Then what’s it? You’ve been bare off lately. We’re boys, innit? You can tell me if something’s wrong.” James hesitated, his thoughts racing. He couldn’t tell him. No way. How was he supposed to explain that every time they hung out, his brain went into overdrive imagining things best left unsaid? He couldn’t mess up their friendship like that. But Fuhad wasn’t having it. “Bruv, don’t leave me hanging. You’re moving like there’s beef or something.” James bit his lip, trying to think of a way out. But then, Fuhad’s eyes softened, genuine concern written all over his face. “Man just wants to know what’s going on with you, innit.” That’s when James felt a pang of guilt. How could he explain to his boy, the guy he’d been through thick and thin with, that his feelings were starting to get… complicated? James laughed nervously, trying to play it off. “Nah, it’s not like that, Fuhad. Just been in my head too much lately, that’s all. Stress, you know?” Fuhad nodded slowly, but there was something in his gaze, something that said he wasn’t fully convinced. “Aight, cool. Just know, man’s here, yeah? We don’t have to make things awkward.” James forced a smile, but inside he was screaming. He’d managed to dodge the conversation for now, but how long could he keep this up? Every moment with Fuhad was getting harder, and sooner or later, something had to give. As the photo shoot wrapped up and they went their separate ways, James found himself wondering: does Fuhad know? Does he know that every time they’re together, James can barely keep his cool? Only time would tell.
