'All The Pretty Monsters' by Kristy Cunning (weirdest supernatural books I've ever read) 'Heart Hassle' by Raven Kennedy (this is the funniest shit I've ever read and I'm not kidding when I say I was cry-laughing) 'A Discovery of Witches' by I don't remember who because I literally fell asleep to the audiobook 'Crave' by idr who again 'House of Night' by you know the jist (worst Mary Sue MC everrrrr) 'The Four Horsemen' by Laura Thalassa (this is a masterpiece in how not to write enemies to lovers 🤮 though I must admit that I liked book 3 and 4, but the first 2 made me want both MCs to die a painful death just so that the books would end lol) 'The Bargainer' also by Laura Thalassa 'The Iron Fae' by idr who and 'From Blood and Ash' by Jennifer L. Armentrout (which is a fucking rideeee lol)

Oh, I think I get it! The author wanted the protagonist to start out as a member of the “bad guys” but not know it, hence the twist at the end. That’s why the college is so needlessly cruel. I’m going to guess that in the next book, we’re going to see the griffin people act humanely to contrast against it and the rest of the series will be about dismantling the empire or whatever. I bet there’s even a second twist where we learn that the dragons are even under some sort of mind control or weakened somehow, hence the strange powerset.

Through hearing you talk about this again, I realized that the reason the dragons aren't overthrowing their human overlords is because even though they are shown to be intelligent and stronger, the author probs believes in human superiority as it applies to evolution etc so they can't even imagine the idea that humans could be lesser than other species. This is just a theory though

38:39 The "dragon rider" and "griffith flyer" distinction for some reason reminds me of those 80s cartoons based on toylines, where there's a good team and an evil team, both have toys with the same gimmicks but with different names. Like the good team will habe a guy who "bonded with a tiger" and the evil team will have a guy who "enslaved a panther" and both are just an action figure sat over a toy cat but painted different... is very silly

Man I really hate this trend of like, establishing our main girl as cool and tough by making her kill a lot of people with no consequence, it just makes characters feel so inhuman I guess? Like no matter how tough you are, a teenage girl suddenly having to kill is gonna be traumatizing for her, it’s gonna affect her emotionally. It also just establishes no value for human life except for our Main Characters

So, funny thing about rubber. Mesoamerica has had rubber since 1600 BC. Not trying to defend this book in any way, but having rubber/latex is not quite as anachronistic as one may think to a past/fantasy setting. As for the paper, Mesoamericans used something called amate paper which is essentially bark and not the cellulose fiber stuff we commonly think of as paper. Side note, do we know if the parchment they used in the book was made from hide or cellulose? Cause the term is applied to both kinds (if I remember correctly) and the cellulose one is at least *similar* enough to maybe be a reference to amate. Do I think either of these things influenced this writer? Gods no. But I did think both of these things were interesting tidbits, and the more you know!

Its a natural way to use her scribe abilities due to handling information and her large memory. You know what would have been such a great way to have us learn about the other characters? Having Violet have to come up with clever and different ways to defeat them. Like, lets just take away the brother book and give her more agency and knowledge of the place she literally lives in, and have her utilize secret passage ways, unknown cracks and crevices, etc to sneak around and spy on her opponents. That way she can learn what makes them tick and how to psych them out, take them out before the fight, distract them, etc, while we, the audience, also learn about them and gain any type of emotional connection to them. That way we actually see Violet's intelligence and her resourcefulness instead of just being told by the author that she's soooo smart.

"He's massive. I look up and up..." Bro lemme tell u, either the author overestimated how tall 6'4 really is, or mc is tragically short. Two of my sisters ex-boyfriends were 6'5 and 6'6 respectively, and I'm 5'4. The only time I had to crane my neck up to look at them was when I was directly in front of them or beside them. For perspective, the top of my head is about chest level/shoulder level. Which is pretty much how any one foot difference is on a person. Your head ends where their shoulders begin. Standing a couple feet away is still only a minor incline for your neck. And ten feet away? They don't even look that tall. That's just how perspective works. Edit: so dude being apparently 6'4, and homegirl "not even reaching his collar bone" (which kinda sounds like she wasn't even close) would put her under 5'4 for sure. Girl's gotta be like 5 feet tall I swear.

As someone who is 5'2, sometimes you do have to crane but in most situations is as you said, you're close to the person, I'm a tattoo artist so I have more problems, sometimes I need leverage.

Oh, I just remembered another character named Dain that betrayed the main cast in DELTORA QUEST. Just another thing to add to the pile. God, there's just so much that's wrong with this book. 🤣 Also, you guys are so cute!! Please keep making more of these. ❤️

Did anyone alert you to the fact that the words are Gaelic, but apparently she did not accent them properly? Haha that seemed like something that would piss you off too 😂 like Básgiath means “death wing” but Basgiath means “palm wing” hahaha

17:58 the “no one looks up at the person in the tree” thing is somehow so much less believable here than in any other book I’ve read that features it 😂😂 and one of my favorite series, the Ranger’s Apprentice, literally starts out with the main character depending on not being seen up a tree
