Wicca is a religion, witchcraft is a craft. there’s a saying called “ Not every witch is a Wiccan not every Wiccan is a Witch” . Most people confuse Wicca as witchcraft nowadays and there’s not many books on traditional witchcraft.

Beginners should NEVER consult books like these. Especially if they are produced and sold through Llewelyn. New witches need the basics of magick and these books do not provide any of that. These books are just mass reproduced wiccan "get rich quick" traps. They all contain the same information written over and over again for the last 30 years. And most of the information is mixed up, screwed up or made up. What a beginner witch need to know is that they are the source of power and the magick flows in them all. they do not need wands, crystals, herbs and black robes. They need to re-awaken the power that was in them at birth. Put the books down and just listen to your intuition, listen to the earth and nature. Look, I fell for this trap too when I got started. I bought all the books I could get. Then I started to realize that all the information was the same. THE EXACT SAME. Same charts, same spells, same How-to's. And the info on the gods were just jumbled, culturally mixed and historically wrong garbage. So, I know what is in these llewelyn books first hand....pure garbage and a waste of time and money. Put down the snow-flake wiccan books and go out side and start listening with your heart. Meditate, Pray, open yourself to nature and talk to the gods. thats where you will learn magick.

Hi there. Thanks for this comment. I am interested in witchcraft, but not sure yet if I would want to practice it. I find my brain needs to read and study things, so I know I am disconnected from my intuition. And that's why I'm not sure I would ever practice it, as I don't feel I can reach my inner 'witch' However I would like to ask if there are any books you'd recommend. On the history perhaps? Or more advanced? I am indeed afraid of purchasing books that share facts and history but that are all wrong. I also wonder about books on spells. Can they be trusted? Could anyone craft their own spells and only use their intentions or ingredients to which they personally give a certain attribute? Or are there rules. Of you decide to reply, thank so much. @Avry de Kazan I studied religions with a specialisation on New Age. I'm not a practicioner. Magick itself is a 20st century construction. You can read Paracelse if you want something from Renaissance but mostly modern practices are influenced by the desire to manifest good in your life. The original book of Thot which was not a corpus originally contains spells to banish crocodiles. Basically, witchcraft has evolved for the modern, individualistic and competitive world. It's okay to tailor you ritual to your own culture, psyche, past. It does not have to be ancient to work. Though, it's always good to confront New Age readings with archeologists. For exemple, Cunliffe for the Celts.
