Hey All! First off, I'm sorry if you saw an earlier version of this briefly go live before. For some reason, it only uploaded half of the video, so we had to delete and try again. So, many of you likely already knew this (because you saw my letter, linked below), but Side Quest is now going to be wholly in the hands of MrMattyPlays and Dustin Furman. You already know Matty; he's responsible for a handful of Side Quest episodes so far, and his work will continue. He, of course, runs his own KZbin channel and podcast, which you should support! Dustin may be a greater mystery to you: He's Colin's Last Stand's lone full-time employee. He edits all of the podcasts and takes care of a lot of digital grunt work, but he's actually also a content creator in his own right. He runs a small outlet called Handsome Phantom (linked in the description) that reviews games, publishes podcasts, et cetera, but when he approached me to work on Side Quest, I was excited by the idea, because I think he has what it takes. Here's the reality of Colin's Last Stand as a business: We're thriving, but Side Quest is the only vertical of the company that isn't profitable. Our KZbin presence -- including Sacred Symbols, which is listened to quite a bit on this service -- is actually losing CLS money. And that's okay: I want to be on KZbin. I want my company to have a presence here. I don't mind paying more to have content here than I'm making. But I also want to try and change that, and as my business' owner and decision-maker, I'm making a play to do so. When it comes to time, energy, and inspiration, I'm totally maxed-out. Between the three weekly podcasts (and all of the research, writing, et cetera that goes into them), running the business administratively, dealing with my new house, and grappling with my fresh role at Lillymo Games as partial owner and Chief Creative Officer, I can't properly tend to CLS' KZbin presence. There aren't enough hours in the day or energy coursing through my body. So, for me, that either means just letting the channel sit fallow until I decide to do something with it again, with only weekly, audio-only Sacred Symbols posts, or letting two really talented individuals who I happen to trust and respect run with the mantle. I've gone with the latter option. I see some of your complaints about these not being my videos, but I also know the silent majority is really, really liking the content, and I think you're gonna like the inclusion of Dustin as much as you like Matty's work. They're going to go every-other-week, so that we should have a video for you here each Wednesday, if all goes according to plan. We want to encourage you to keep the feedback coming as we refine the work, but in the meantime, I wanted to let you know what's happening. I truly hope you continue to enjoy what we're doing not only here on KZbin, but elsewhere in the Colin's Last Stand family as well. Thank you. -Colin P.S. Dont wanna seem like a dick or anything. I love colin, been supporting him for years. I dont want to seem like I'm hating or being toxic or anything like that but, doing 3 podcasts a week that are 2 hours long at most isnt as back-breaking as you're trying to make it seem to be. Now, you're immediate thought after reading that sentence might be smth along the lines of "oh this guy has no fucking clue what's it's like to run a business blah blah" and you'd be right, but if you set aside your recent movement into a new house and all the difficulties that come with it (you're not gonna be "dealing" with your house forever) as well as your "adaptation period", for the lack of a better term, of being a partial owner, how exactly are you maxed out? As far as I understand, your main and most difficult duty pertaining lylimo is writing scripts for games, which is no easy task dont get me wrong, but are you busy with writing a story for a game every single day? Recording podcasts where you talk about games and other things 3 times a week isnt that strenuous or gut-wrenching, especially for a guy who has an editor and has been doing podcasts since 2014. You know what you're talking about, it seems your thoughts are flowing through your head adequately, it's like you're having a conversation you're enjoying. How is this being put into a category of exhausting things to do? You literally are alone in a big house, dont have a girlfriend nor kids, granted you do have a dog to take care of, again, how are you maxed out exactly? I assume there are two days during a week where you relax, play video games, spend time with your family now that you're all in Virginia or just fuck around and that's awesome, everybody has to rest. Im not managing your schedule obvisouly and wouldnt dare to do that but what are you doing the other two days? Administrative tasks of running a business? My opinion, and you colin can disagree, everyone can disagree, its entirely possible for a pretty smart guy like you with an extensive knowledge about the industry, to write a script with little to no effort(I mean you wrote countless articles at ign, probably also wrote tons of essays to get that history degree, it should be as easy as riding a bike to write a script for an 8 minute video) and make a side quest video once every two months and it wouldn't be as strenuous as you make it seem to be(my take, again not being toxic). I really liked your review type of video about detroit become human, I thought it was excellent as well as that video you did talking about the vita. So yeah...

Charlie Milroy Probably comes from the fact that videos don’t write and edit themselves, and he pays his editors for their time and also probably has to account for the labor/time it takes to write/research these, possible subscription costs of software (Adobe creative cloud isn’t cheap), bandwidth costs, etc. He’s treating this like a business, so many of those business costs have to be accounted for.

Sure some parts you can cheese *cough* the werewolved, but I really enjoyed the 5 hours. And kinda wish more games put their foot down with the 5-10 hour cinematic experience. Games like Uncharted, The Order, Mirrors Edge, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil are all fun experiences and even more fun to replay over and over again. Maybe its just me, but those games are way more memorable than the 80+ hour fetch quests we deal with.

I am so tired of people complaining about how every video isn't Colin and his opinion. He does three 2hr+ podcasts a week where you can hear his thoughts. He is literally just trying to help other GOOD creators grow their channel and give them a platform, which he did not have to do. CLS is HIS business and some people around here act so entitled to having him in every video when he has made it crystal clear on multiple occasions that it is a group effort. I feel like people click on these videos, hear it's matt or dustin and instantly shit talk without seeing if the content is good. I've been watching Mattys videos since before Fallout 4 even released and he has always made good content, and it's great colin is trying to give him more space to shine. Hindsight is 20/20, but perhaps it would have been in Sony’s and Ready At Dawn’s best interest to continue their partnership as mobile developers. Could you imagine if Ready At Dawn spent the 5 years they made developing The Order on a couple Vita titles? The Vita would have received continued support, and Ready At Dawn wouldn’t have experienced the financial burdens that come with AAA console exclusive development.

A shame that Sony let Ready at Dawn slip away over one game that the media especially had a clear agenda against from the start. Lack of multiplayer and 30 FPS, two things TLoU 2 is guilty of in 2020, is what buried The Order 1886 more than anything back in 2015. People also got upset because it was delayed a couple times, which we know Naughty Dog never delays its games. Ah well, it is what it is. Best of luck to Ready at Dawn with Oculus Studios.
@wkadalie4 жыл бұрын
The Order wasn't a fun game to play. And it was overly short. It had some amazing guns that were restricted to when they could be used. I loved the visuals and lore but I fully get why it's hated. And it's deserved. TLoU 2 feels good to play and the visuals are great. And the game is the opposite, it's actually too long. If I were Sony I'd be more interested in getting Supermassive games. Ready at Dawn got their break and blew it.

I don't get why some gamers are so sensitive about frame rate. You can agree or disagree on how important it is, but the fact is the 'cinematic' style of movies is entirely due to their low frame rate of 24 fps. The Hobbit movies were shot at 48 fps and they look too slick and artificial. Come to think of it, they look too much like a video game. The Lord of the ring movies look way, way better with 24 fps. It's perfectly legitimate to reduce frame rate in order to achieve a cinematic look. Like I said, you can disagree with this approach in principal, but the logic is sound.
