Hey Sarah, The fuel cooler is there to reduce the temperature of the fuel returning to the tank to eliminate the possibility of condensation in the tank. When you pressurize the fuel in the system it heats, whatever returns back to the tank should be cooled. Great video BTW, It's nice to see Mr Dos getting closer to being able to be flogged on a bit!
@jordybrock

Its not on the return line though? I always thought it was a condensation tube on the way to the carbon filter.

Yes, it's part of the fuel evap system on USDM vehicles to depressurize the tank. Goes to b-vsv on coolant neck which then allows vapors to go to charcoal canister and eventually is circulated back into the engine through the throttle body ports

That's what is missing on my Lexus 1993 sc400, the fuel return is so warm that it evaporates as soon as it ENTER the fuel tank.

When I plan to reuse coolant, I strain it though a t-shirt back into the jugs. I was recently doing some plumbing work on PVC pipe and got one of those pipe cutter tools. Turns out it works fabulously on all sizes of rubber hoses. Even large radiator hoses or heavy duty AC hoses.

Rubber washers is a great idea and I would agree that it will reduce the vibration that caused the cracking. Reminds me of leaks I get on steel hydraulic lines on my backhoe...it's the vibration of steel bolted to steel.

I think the pipe thing is the fuel line cooler, it would dissipate the heating produced by the fuel pump in the fuel. This is specially important in injection systems, where the fuel also doubles as coolant in the high pressure circuit. First time I see disassemble and reassemble a fuel tank by a single person and with the car barely at the minimum distance above the floor so it can phisically go out. Nice phisical condition, Sarah 😯

I saw you struggling with your coolant vac tool. For years I've been using a Matco "air lift". I see they have a new one. AC550500 Air lift ll. I highly recommend, it will save you time and head ache. One thing to keep in mind when using one of these though, the more coolant you get drained out, the better it will work. I enjoy your work! Sarah I can see the amount of work involved and you have been smashing it. The odd manifold you asked about is a fuel return cooler. Not a big deal mostly but if you were in the snow and filled your car up the cold air ingress could cause condensation to fall out of the air. Like rain inside your fuel tank. It's great to see you getting a bit of help when required as well. It isn't a fail it is optimizing the time and making the important targets. You cant be an expert at everything. As for your glove dispenser use a tissue box holder it works for me. I have never had to bleed the coolant system in one of these however I have found that once filled normally multiple pressure cycles with the manual pressure tester seemed to move the air out/to the high spot pretty quickly. Always done whilst running. Great Video

It’s called an ‘evaporative fuel separator ’ ... it’s purpose is to catch fumes (vapor form) and condense them back to liquid. That liquid then drips right back down into the tank.
