Rising or sitting trot? With both but especially sitting trot it can help to make your stirrups longer

Just curious: Doesn't this hurt the horse to have 2 humans hopping this way and that way on his back while his neck is tied down in a forceful fashion? I don't ride. This looks very uncomfortable for the horse.
