Anthony 3CartMerchants Well? How’s she shoot?! Lol I’ve got two 16s an two pistols and even a 22lr but no long range. Not sure which caliber I want yet. Deciding on 308 or 338. 308 would probably be much easier to source parts but I’m leaning towards the lapua right now
@Player_Review4 жыл бұрын
@@Spoons7414 When I eventually get around to an AR-10 (probably next), definitely going .308 here, though the reason is I already have a bolt-action Model 70 in that caliber so I have the ammo. Otherwise I'd consider .338 Lapua or if I wanted something lighter then 6.5 Creedmoor. I really like .308 though, but I've maxed out at 400 yards with deer hunting, so I'm no expert.

One big thing about building your own is you can spread the cost out, coming up with the 600 or so to buy a complete one can be challenging but 60 this week, 100 or so in a couple more weeks and before you know it you have a rifle and one built to your preferences
@chud18586 жыл бұрын
There’s a lot of places that will work with you to spread out the cost of a factory built rifle, too.
@Docprepper6 жыл бұрын
CHUD but you don’t end up w the rifle until all payments are made. Might as well build one and have the product forming in your hands rather make payments and POOF there’s a rifle in the mail or at your local FFL A
@chud18586 жыл бұрын
@@Docprepper If you can find the parts you want, you could do that. Nothing wrong with building. My comment was directed towards someone who wants a factory-built rifle but may not have enough for a "high end" brand. Up until this year, I never found a factory-built rifle that had everything I wanted. I would've had to change the handguard, or the stock, or the BUIS. In that sense, yes, it would be better to build one. BUT if you find a factory-built rifle that you really like and has what you want, there are places that will work with you to get that. The OP was saying spend a little here and a little there and you eventually will have the whole rifle. It's no different with making payments on a factory-built rifle; you make payments here and there and eventually you will have the whole rifle.

so when i bought my ar i didnt know a lot aout them but a lot of people around me did. I bought my ar for about 750 out the door. I then traded and bought pieces i liked based off of other ar-15s i had shot, upper/lower. Grips. Scopes. and of course the trigger job. My point is that if you feel intimidated about simply building an AR, then buy one and go to gun matches or friendly shoots at your local or nearby gun clubs. Talk to other AR owners and hear their opinions as to why they like their set up. You will find out that most owners have several ARs with different setups for say sport or competitive shooting. Here is where it gets cool. Not only are most people more than happy to give you their opinion on their gun, or even discuss what may be best for you. They will usually let you try out a mag or two so you can test it for yourself. And when you feel things and the difference in things you can build your own preference. Then you can go and purchase pieces and customize/rebuild your AR a piece at a time to your own liking. True you spend a little more with the initial purchase. But you get to feel the difference and truly customize your own piece. Want to hear something great.... Before too long, you will be the guy at the shoot or competition showing new shooters or enthusiasts your gun build(s) and why it suits you. You will enjoy watching faces light up as they try out your personal build and you can not only teach them, but learn as you help them devise something a little more suited to that person. Even devise newer builds of your own! Build an AR guys. It is a truly wonderful experience and you will meet some awesome people who will help you in a lot of ways!

P.S. buying full kits with FCGs and grips isnt a bad idea.It means you have extra replacement parts or u can use the generic parts later for a truck gun or patrol rifle for your farm for predators?Either way i suggest buying full kits and then still buying your improved trigger ahead of time so when you have all he parts your ready to install all of it and keep those extra parts for a later build of a gun your going to do cheaply enough you dont mind of it gets a bit banged up in the truck.I personally cant have any AR with a barrel less then 16" nor any in a pistol caliber.The only pistol caliber long guns we can have here are of a fixed configuration :>/

In my experience I would say not to buy an entry level rifle with the intent to upgrade it. Buy an entry level AR with the intent to shoot it and keep it simple. If you want to upgrade it before you've even bought it, build it how you want it in the first place and you'll save money, I know.

IMPORTANT! Bad info here, you cannot "replace" the stock with a brace or bare tube and use as a pistol. If the AR15 was initially built as a rifle, especially if it was a factory complete, it is *ALWAYS A RIFLE*. Don't put a short barrel on that lower or it will be considered an illegal SBR, even if you remove the stock.

I'm building my first one. I've got the body parts, barrel, and charger. The main piece I'm having trouble deciding is if I was gas piston or direct impingment. I've read a bit of the two and both have their benefits and faults. One is also much cheaper than the other. Any readers have an opinion? Gas chamber is more expensive, but I've read it's more reliable, but all I've read are opinions in articles.
