Well, he is basically the book's version of EA, so you're not wrong. The game is supposed to be free in its base form(The software, the hardware you have to buy it), basically a fair free2play model. Halliday designed that way so that anyone could have access to an escape and to resourcess like free education within the OASIS. What IOI(The name even sounds kind of like EA) whants is to monetize it to hell and tourn it into a simple commertial product.

Fans of the book: there's a script floating around online for which the authenticity cannot be verified, however, it explains EVERYTHING seen in the trailers perfectly. The overall plot is the same and many of the same beats are hit, however, there are significant changes to characters, sequence of events, and the key/gate 'challenges' are maddeningly simple by comparison. Overall, it's still a very cool story and maintains the spirit of the novel well - but do not expect to see an exact recreation of the book. This does NOT mean that it's going to suck! In an old interview, Cline states that he had set out to write a novel that would be impossible to make into a movie. In this stale, superhero-filled movie industry, let's be supportive,and keep an open mind and be glad that it made it this far.
@tgstudiosvideos6 жыл бұрын
I love a lot of the big superhero movies. The point I failed to make there is that the big studios don't appear to be taking risks lately. Seems big budgets are strictly reserved for 'sure-things' as opposed to anything outside the norm and I'm just really happy that something so far outside that typical, big-budget 'box' is getting such a strong push.
@aidancox54816 жыл бұрын

Ill keep an open mind but this should have been an extended series on HBO or something. The brilliance of the book is it’s depth and complexity, watering the plot and characters down in a paltry two hours just seems like a mistake.
@darkmyro6 жыл бұрын
To be fair the challenges in the book rely on a lot of obscure knowledge like D&D, old video games, and movies. Though none of it is what I would call genius level puzzles. The main problem I saw with the Sixers in the book were they were overthinking halliday, basically making him out to be smarter and deeper than he was.

This movie was incredibly accurate. Imagine. Our world is becoming more and more filthy. We are paying way to much attention to our electronics, and someday someone is just going to create to “Oasis” so we can escape what we have made.
@Moormores6 жыл бұрын
Daisy the Beagle Have you read the book? This movie is not accurate towards anything but someone else's vision of a movie. It stole the name and characters from book but that is it.
@flyingsauce1016 жыл бұрын
Moormores What did you expect? For it to be as accurate as the Harry Potter movies were to the books? Plus, that's not even what they were saying, they were just saying that the world is becoming more scummy and someday there's gonna be a game like the Oasis; Ernest Cline allowed them to make this movie, what do you think? You can just up and steal someones idea? There's something called copyright, which ended up being a problem when making the movie, but only because of all the references and Easter eggs.
@Moormores6 жыл бұрын
PyroFox 653 Why is it hard for someone to want movies to reflect the books they have read. Why make a movie with the same name and characters and not do justice to the book? If a company purchased the rights to the book then they have the right to make whatever they want but they do not have the right through false trailers and false advertisement to try and sell me a product I do not want - this film has done it... You can say whatever you want but the film and it's use of this name and characters is false advertising. Nuff said.

To all the people saying that there's way to much CGI, come on. There mostly in a virtual reality. The CGI makes sense, and looks damn good at that. I just hope it follows along with the book. Some of the scenes make me question that.
@FJAR16356 жыл бұрын
EnoTheAwesome I can already tell there’s going to be a lot of changes. For one, there was no “rebellion” in the book. Wade and Artemis don’t meet until the very end. Wade doesn’t originally live in Columbus, Ohio. Some of the properties mentioned in the books couldn’t get their copyrights licensed for the film so they’re using different characters (i.e. The Iron Giant instead of Ultra Man).

Just watched the movie, honestly one of the best video game related films of all time. Amazing comedy, an unpredictable yet exciting plot, and the best thing: One of the most related messages of this point of time. Many people nowadays are so involved with the virtual world of information and technology and of course video games, they forgot the fun in reality. Indeed; This movie brought out a message so true- Reality is real, and the Oasis (The virtual world) is not. I can’t express how excited I was throughout the whole movie and it’s, honestly, one of the best films I’ve ever watched. Props to the director Steven. Another astonishing film from him. 👍👍

Nathan Hon You said it exactly right! We came here to have a human experience and not a virtual/simulation type one. We’re missing out on what’s real and focusing on what’s not real. I wanna see this movie tonight. It seems relatable to what’s happening today. They love to show the truth in plain sight so they can say “we told them” and they don’t get the bad Karma that’s coming to them. People need to wake up!

Can't have a YA movie without stealing all the tropes from every other YA movie. I enjoyed the book but these trailers have completely turned me off the movie because it's clear they're barely anything like the book. From starting him in Columbus rather than OKC, to the fact that he's a typical 'cute boy' teen not an overweight social misfit, the ridiculous way they portray the OASIS VR system and his haptic outfit, to the obvious copy/paste from Hunger Games/Divergent/Maze Runner. The movie is going to be a stinker.

I read the book and can't see how they can do it justice in 2 hour movie... Should have done trilogy for each of the keys.... Excited but hoping it doesn't disappoint

jeah! But no, Spielberg has to do it as easy as possible for much money.
@tashawn40666 жыл бұрын
Dudu DunRoth nah a trilogy would’ve made more, but the ending is in the book so it wouldn’t matter. It should have be a Netflix 3 part special.
