We love TSO and have been going to their Christmas concerts since 2004. Old City Bar, Ornament, Good King Joy, Promises to Keep, Christmas Eve/Sarajevo and my favorite This Christmas Day are all fantastic and they're all from Christmas Eve and other stories. They have great music attached to each story they tell.

they rose from Savatage - first on "Dead Winter Dead" - a rock opera about a love story set against the backdrop of the freedom and simultaneous war for control over Sarajevo in the late 80s.

Absolutely beautiful! Trans Siberian Orchestra never disappoints. When it began I thought I was hearing Canon in D, by Johan Pachelbel, and that may be where the inspiration for this comes from.

If you're interested, Chip Davis formed an ensemble, called Mannheim Steamroller, which fused classical, new age, and rock. The music they put out was nothing short of breathtaking. What's impressive to me is how he arranged a Christmas song I don't even like into one that I find beguiling and entrancing...now my favorite piece by them: "The Holly and the Ivy."

You should check out Savatage Christmas Eve 12/24 ( I'm sure you will recognize it when you hear it) it is now a staple with TSO. probably their most famous song . Savatage was a highly under-rated Metal /Prog rock band during the 80's thru the early 2000's they were one of the pioneers in combining metal with classical eventually through numerous member changes they eventually evolved into TSO..

The music is classical music, a work called Pachelbel's Canon. It was popularized when used as the main theme of Robert Redford's directing debut movie "Ordinary People," and this version of it somebody (don't know who) borrowed the music and added words to it to create a Christmas song. There's a recording of a children's chorus singing this same song that is very beautiful and not the least bit rocky that has also become popular.

TSO was a "spin-off" project from the band Savatage, and many of the Savatage line-up still perform with TSO as they did from the beginning. Savatage was a power metal band from the 80s who evolved into a more progressive metal band in the late-80s with the arrival of Paul O'Neill in 1987 as their producer and eventual songwriting contributor and concept album collaborator, right up to the band's final release in 2001. TSO was a project of necessity when O'Neill's attempt to get radio airplay for Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24/1990), the single from the 1995 Savatage album Dead Winter Dead ; all the local radio stations refused to play metal, and would not even give the track a listen, simply cos the name "Savatage" was on it. O'Neill created some new music in a concept holiday album called Christmas Eve & Other Stories, which featured the same single, unaltered in any way except that the album and the song were now under the moniker of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. This was the perfect subterfuge when O'Neill returned to the radio stations the following year (with the CE&OS album's release in 1996), and had them play the same song - which they did (this is why I hate radio)... and the switchboards LIT UP (like a Christmas Tree) with listeners calling in wanting to know - as the track was instrumental - the name of artist, and the title of this hard rock rendition of Carol of The Bells. TSO released a total of 3 holiday themed concept albums (CE&OS in 1996, The Christmas Attic in 1998, and The Lost Christmas Eve in 2004) which were also linked with each other conceptually, forming the "Christmas Trilogy", as well as 2 non-holiday concept albums (Beethoven's Last Night in 2000, and Night Castle in 2009), plus an EP (Dreams Of Fireflies On A Christmas Night in 2012) and one final album (Letters From The Labyrinth in 2015) in a quasi-concept format. Much of the TSO's material features several traditional holiday carols and classical compositions by Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and more, plus selections from the Savatage catalog, all reworked for TSO releases, including The Mountain (previously Prelude To Madness under Savatage, from their 1987 album Hall of The Mountain King), Believe, Stay, Heal My Soul (all 3 from the 1991 album Streets and its sessions), Mozart & Memories (previously Mozart & Madness from the 1995 album Dead Winter Dead), and Back To A Reason (from the 2001 album Poets & Madmen). In addition to the shared Savatage/TSO track Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24/1990), TSO's best tracks include : First Snow A Mad Russian's Christmas Mozart & Madness Boughs Of Holly Midnight Christmas Eve Christmas Canon (sans Rock) Appalachian Snowfall The Lost Christmas Eve Wizards In Winter Christmas Jam Grinch What Is Christmas Wish Liszt (Toy Shop Madness) What Child Is This Overture / Midnight / Fate What Is Eternal Requiem (The Fifth) The Dark The Mountain Night Castle Winter Palace Nutrocker Carmina Burana (O Fortuna) Forget About The Blame Mountain Labyrinth

TSO is amazing. One of the best stage shows you can see anywhere. They have two crews that tour from Mid November to New Years Eve. One is the East Group, touring East of the Mississippi River and the other is the West crew that tours only West of the Mississippi. They will have up to 4 shows a day (2 East and 2 West) during that time. Can I suggest a couple of other TSO songs that are Amazing: "Wizards in Winter", the other version of this song, "Christmas Canon", "Siberian Sleigh Ride", "Wish Liszt (Toy Shop Madness)", "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24". These are from their Christmas story CD's, of which there are three. They have 4 other albums that are a better mash up of classical music and rock. All of them are fabulous. You could do a couple of these songs in one reaction video as they are very short, 3-4 minutes.

There are many songs they do with various different feels. I suggest their joy to the world/christmas eve. It has a bit more blues to it. Then theres the o holy night with michael crawford (an amazing english actor and comedian who was the phantom of the opera on broad way in 1988 and reprise the role in 1991) helping out for a more opera feel. A few more popular rock oriented ones are wizard in winter, carol of the bells, sarejevo, and a mad russians christmas. They are so great with their christmas albums. They also have a few other themed albums that are great like "Beethovens Last Night" and "night castle". Both of which have a narrated story to go with their albums just like the christmas album collection does. Which I really like. It gives off that same warm feeling you get as a kid letting your mind wander off in imaginaton as your parents read you a bed time story. Its really a great experience to listen/watch them on cd/dvd but even better in concert. They are soooo talented and bring such a unique experience to the table.

TSO became the masters of Christmas with the first note of their first album (Christmas Eve & Other Stories). A mixture of original songs and their take on classics, I've always said that it took a bunch of "heathens" to get Christmas music right!
@tritontransport10 ай бұрын
It took Paul O’Neill and Bob Kinkel to get it right and kick those kids in the ass and get them to focus on music rather than getting in bar brawls and wrecking hotel rooms 😉😂

It's likely you have heard a couple songs by them before, Christmas eve Sarajevo, and Wizards in Winter. The second had a video that went viral with Christmas lights set to it years ago. Pachelbel's Canon was composed in the late 1600's. The reason they say it's top 10 ever is partly because it's been around so long. This version is obviously an interpretation that takes a (my opinion) relatively boring and repetitive piece into the rock/synthesized world. This group/band does some amazing stuff!! This composition is just boring in my opinion. I've always thought that about this canon, regardless of the version. I strongly suggest checking out some other TSO for better examples of how they can go bonkers!
