If you are considering a camera for your FPV quadcopter, the DJI Action 2 has been a great choice for a couple of years. But with the release of the GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini, does DJI have some real competition on the FPV video capture space? Does the GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini stabilize better? Does the GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini look better when you are ripping through some power loops? In this video, we mounted a DJI Action 2 and a GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini side by side on a 5 inch freestyle quadcopter made by Rotor Riot to see which one looks better. We also flew the GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini alone on the Rotor Riot 5" freestyle quad to see how the quadcopter performed with the somewhat heavy action camera mounted to it. Thanks for all the hard work and for sharing the results with us. It looks like you had some fun. I have only the original DJI Osmo action camera, and the hero 10 camera. I’m unlikely to do any upgrading right now. However, I did like the footage from the hero 11 better than the Osmo action 2.

The Action 2 seems very blocky, especially in the grass. The GoPro looks better, but might be a bit over sharpened. I'm definitely interested in a sunny day side by side test. 11:40 Yes, that was worth it. Lol

I have both and love them each differently. Gopro has much better dynamic range while the Action 2 has a way better weight and form factor. I am going to keep both and use each according to what I'm doing. Awesome content Kelly 👏🤟👍

But how much of a difference does the weight/form factor even play into it though, have you done any scientific tests? I would actually want to know how much of a benefit it is before I go and spend $600- $700 on multiple action cameras. My guess is not a big difference.

I agree that the gopro images look a lot better in total. The Gopro imho has a much more vibrant image/nicer colors. _But_ I completely disagree about the dynamic range. It seems superior on the Action 2. Look at the trees specifically. A first indication is at ~1:20. But it gets more obvious when comparing 2:56 - 3:08 (watch first) vs. 2:30 - 2:42. The dark parts seem to be pure black on the gopro until the shutter adjusts. On the action you'll see less detail in general but you'll be able to make out some detail far earlier. And that's what dynamic range is about. A good side by side shot is at 4:48.

Great side-by-side comparison! Of course GP mini 11 wins in things like dynamic range, sharpness and color...but the Action 2 really isn't far behind imo! (compared to like a Caddx Peanut) I would say they're both great in different situations. Action 2 for more freestyle flying (where cutting edge quality isn't really the main priority) or for things like 3" builds where you phisically can't take a GoPro unless you destroy it with a naked case😅 I will mention also that DJI have been looking into releasing firmware updates for the Action 2 where the gyro data will be finally accessable!! There was a forum post last month looking for beta firmware testers. Gives me hope about DJI listening to the community and the future of the Action 2.

That's good to hear about DJI and the Action 2. I haven't looked into Gyroflow much, but it'll be nice to have an option to stabilize after recording.

It's kind of an artistic choice during the editing process. Sometimes we do it, sometimes we don't. It depends on the context and style choice of the edit. Often we just have talking and/or natural diegetic sound. I think, sometimes, adding some background music also adds to the experience of the viewer, but of course, everyone's opinion is different. objectively the hero 11 mini looked better, but we have to ask ourselves at what penalty. for freestyle flying, this might be the best time ever to grab a hero7 black and use that for around 130 usd on ebay... i dunno

I think the in camera stabilization looks smoother on the Action 2, but the grass looks very blocky and soft. The GoPro seems over sharp, but it has more detail.

GoPro 11. No contest. The colors are more accurate and just look at the definition in the clouds, and it performs much better in shadows.

gopro so much detail, just for the price dji still win. but if u looking for good performane for fpv footage, go buy gopro. but if u also want to record from another playform or even make pov video, dji still irreplaceable, because it can mount on necklace
