Happy Belated Birthday! Im glad and amazed the Captain had a spare drive leg for you. it's so weird to see the crossover from the disparate parts of youtube that I follow. Hopefully getting it back on isnt too much trouble and it works for you!

While I've never tried it, one tip I've seen on KZbin quite a bit for getting apart rusty parts is using wax. If you use a penetrant like WD40 then apply heat it'll just burn out the oil but apparently wax will just flow further into the stuck joint. Look it up on KZbin and see if it would be a help for getting the drive leg apart.
@patrickandmichaela6 сағат бұрын
Thanks for the tip! We found a lot of suggestions, and I think what people say is the absolute best is 50/50 acetone / Automatic Transmission Fluid, but we will be going over getting everything apart next week! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to share some advice! 🎉⛵

90% of the time small outboards don’t run well because there water in the gas. Empty the tank completely and refill it with clean fresh fuel. Make sure you add the recommended amount of Marine Stabil and Marvel Mystery Oil. Then inject some carburetor cleaner in the carb.
@patrickandmichaela6 сағат бұрын
I will have to give that a go! We have been using some Marvel Mystery Oil, but maybe it would be good to start fresh! Thanks for the advice and for spending this week with us! 🎉⛵
@Seawizz2036 сағат бұрын
No problem. I enjoy your videos. Also, the Marvel Mystery Oil won’t affect the two-stroke oil and will help to keep the water out of the fuel. One more thing. Try to keep your fuel tank as full as possible to prevent condensation in the tank. That’s the cause of the water contamination. Good luck!

Use a stainless steel wire brush because a normal brush breaks off tiny pieces of wire that then embed into the alloy and they will rust in the salt water

You could get a cheap ratchet driven screw extractor set (look on line for an Allan screw one) & then using WD40 & a bit of elbow grease it’ll come out. Drill it out a bit if you need to (smaller diameter drill) get in deeper to get more purchase. It’ll work & Oh! 🎉Happy Birthday🎉

Thank you so much for the advice! We will be showing getting it apart, and how much of a struggle that it has been! Will have to look into those extractors, they look awesome! Appreciate you joining us for this weeks adventure! Thank you! ⛵🎉

Happy birthday Michaela praying that you will have many happy healthy and prosperous years to come. You two are amazing the positivity that you two have when so many things go wrong. One positive thing to the outcome of your drive leg is the experience that you will gain. Possibly somebody in the future will need your help with the same problem and you can jump right in and bless them as you have been blessed by the captain who gave you the drive leg. The sailing community always seems to come together and that is the wonderful thing. As always stay safe and God bless till next time
@patrickandmichaela8 сағат бұрын
Thank you so much Kris! We hope you have a happy, healthy, prosperous years to come as well! It has been a bit of a hard pill to swallow but gaining all of the experience, tools, etc to fix this drive leg now will certainly be worth it in the long term considering our plans for this boat! Huge shout out to Captain Shack and the sailing community for always coming together to help each other out! Have a wonderful week Kris! ⛵🎉🌅☺🍀

So sorry you didn't make it to the tropics for Christmas :( but, you were able to be with each other and your friends and that's what really matters :) Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary of owning your own boat, it doesn't seem like it's been a whole year since I started watching, I have seen you both grow so much in the span of 1 year! And of course it wouldn't be right of me if I didn't mention a huge belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you Michaela 🥳🎉 I'm looking forward to the next video to see how it goes on getting that old leg off and the new one on! 😀
@patrickandmichaela7 сағат бұрын
Yes exactly! Things rarely ever go to plan, but you can still try to make the best of where you are at! I feel like a lot of people did not think we would make it a month, let alone a year, so feels pretty wild to be here! We certainly are feeling a lot more comfortable on the boat and see us being in it for the long haul! Thank you so much for the birthday well wishes 🙂 If you enjoy watching work on this drive leg you are lucky, because I think it will be a video of taking it apart and then a video of putting it together, because it has been a battle! Thank you so much for spending another week with us, we are so excited for the year to come and the adventures we will get to share! 🎉⛵🍀☺

Fun video….yeah, there was no lubricating value in your “milkshake” oil, and that is when metal on metal breaks. The lower unit shaft seals, where the water gets in, are shot but sure you knew that. Hope you have the correct tools and a manual….friend on a Gemini made it to Hollywood, Fla yesterday where his outdrive/ engine alignment failed for the second time in less than 20 ish hours running time. Just Catamarans in Hollywood are doing the repairs. Thanks, Andrew
@patrickandmichaela8 сағат бұрын
Yeah, exactly. Figure a gear or spline has lost a tooth or two, not fun. It seems like these things just have the lower seals by the prop and then everything else is instant gasket. These things seem to be quite the blessing and the curse. Hope your friends repair goes well! Thank you Andrew for being here with us! ⛵🎉

@patrickandmichaela6 сағат бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes we do, but they are back in Chicago! And I think the transom plates are slightly different, which may mean we have to haul out to swap them out. Having a boat means putting up with all this nonsense, even if you are meticulous with preventative maintenance. They are in the harshest environment possible. Hopefully, there was not too much damage when you eventually got it open. Oh, I'm sure you know, but incase you don't, those exchange cylinders are not full. They usually only fill them 75-80%. If you manage to find a place that fills them, you will get a lot more gas. And of course, I hope you had a happy birthday.
@patrickandmichaela4 сағат бұрын
Yeah it does seem that way! Boat repair in exotic places, or sometimes less than exotic places but still boat repair! We are hoping for the best, but the drive leg we picked up seems to be pretty good if we can refurbish it! We did not know that about the propane tanks, that is quite useful information! Thanks so much for the tip and birthday wishes, we really appreciate you watching! ⛵🎉🙂🍰
