I worked in (German) hospitals for quite a while. And most of the times doctors were busy doing paperwork, visiting their patients maybe once a day, while nurses did most of the work portrayed in Grey's Anatomy. At least work that doesn't include surgery or life threatening situations. And of course there was drama, but it almost never had anything to do with people falling in love with each other xD

Nurses rock. As a doctor you got all this stuff on your mind and it's sometimes hard to lighten up, which then makes the interaction with the next patient more stiff and therefore more tiring for you and unpleasant for the patient. But I've met some nurses who would not only assist you with the technical stuff, like finding a vein that 3 other doctors couldn't, but also lighten up the mood, tell jokes and just have an attitude that increases morale. Makes you feel safe, knowing you have them there, which in turn makes you more efficient.

The doctor kept giving my mother blood pressure medication for her stroke but it would paralyze her and when the nurse stopped the medication she would instantly be able to talk and move then the doctor would come back order the medication saying he needed to see it happening but would leave a second later. All she could do on the medication was move her eyes and she legit had tears when it was happening. After the third time the nurse told the doctor no more because it was affecting my dad, sister, and I emotionally.

A Phillippine nourse saved my mom´s life in Memorial Hermann Hospital, when she noticed that mom´s temperature was really high. Then she took me to their nourses room and show me how to put ice into gloves and run to mom´s side and place that 3 golves in her neck and armpits in order to save her. Before that, I had touched the emergency or call button, but they didn´t respond. But that nourse took a risk when she saw me running through an empty hallway and helped me. The head of nourses was not there and she ever had the idea that mom was diabetic and hipertensive... but that phillippine nourse knew that mom was not... but her superior didn´t hear what she said. That Phillippine nourse, aside to hang two bags of serum and antibiotics, placed the gloves with ice and runned away ´cause she was, for some reason, afraid of her head of nourses. At the end, the Titular Dr. came and recognized the head of nourses mistake... but no one ever knew who helped me... that angelical nourse saved my mom´s life that night... thank you wherever you are.

My friend showed me this show cause she loved it and wanted my medical opinion as a 3rd year paramedicine student and oh my god lemme just say I DONT KNOW HOW ALL MY PARAMEDIC FRIENDS AND EVEN MY TEACHERS LOVE THIS SHOW like it ticked me OFFFFFF. i remember watching a scene where one of the main characters was hit by a car and the only thing they got correct was the C-spine immobilisation lmao. The GCS was off, pupils looked FINE, only had him on a NASAL CANULA and thats only scratching the surface from what i can remember off the top of my head. I also saw some maneuvre in another episode where they were giving CPR to a dead lady but they were also doing it abdominally at the same time and i had to LOOK UP what the heck this was and then show my teachers who have been paramedics for YEARS and even they didnt know what the heck that was lmao. After watching a couple of the scenes it is deeeefinitely obvious people who watch this are ONLY in it for the romance hahah

Especially the ER Nurses, they're really good at it, one time my nurse can't put the needle for my IV, they had to take me and my bed to the ER just so the nurse do it

It’s not that I disagree with you but from my personal experience I’ve had the exact opposite be true, with one terrible blood draw be done by a nurse…but then again maybe I’m just unlucky or had inexperienced nurses
@GogiRegion3 жыл бұрын
@@spillme7279 Yep. Phlebotomists are somehow way less good at it from my experience than you would expect considering it’s their job, however usually if they look much older they’re probably an absolute pro and might be better than everyone else on this list. ER nurses generally are better from my experience at hitting quick because they need to, but paramedics often are like that but even faster. Then there’s usually that one person who everyone there knows that they can call in when either in an ER or lab, someone who usually looks older and oftentimes seems like they know how to do an IV right with that magic touch, despite not being the first person they ask.

i actually had a nurse stick me 5 times trying to find a vein when I was 14 while I was having an allergic reaction, after the 5th time I cried and freaked so a doctor came in and was like "hey, I'm gonna give you 2 options, you can let me give you the injection and I promise ill get it in one go or I can give you the oral medicine and you'll be here for 3 days' so i let him give me the injection and was home the same day. I usually have nothing but glowing reviews for nurses but that one messed me up
@Widdekuu912 жыл бұрын
I've watched too much ER as a (young) child, mom was distracted during ER and I'd watch with her, so I probably saw too much blood and suffering. The thing that scared me the most was patients (kids and adults) that'd scream and refused to be helped or operated on, which were (in ER) always met with a stern look, a forceful hand, an anesthesia-mask to knock them out *or* just completely ignored and talked over. It took me a while to convince myself that the "shut up, I'm too busy for your tears"-attitude was for television. And then I got a nasty experience during a difficult, 45-minute-long procedure (getting my wisdomteeth out) with an assistant that (for some unknown reason) started taunting me and laughed when I burst into tears. I immediately requested another one for the other 2 teeth and the second assistant was very kind. And yet, the surgeon kept on ignoring my requests to stop or pause, they left me laying in a room with the door open when they were called away for something (there were guests randomly stepping in, wondering why there was a seemingly lifeless body with green tearstainedpaper covering the face on that 'table') and I've had my fair share of horrorstories from acquintances, that had nurses and surgeons with zero respect for any tears or fears and that don't ask before putting fingers, needles or other objects into bodies of patients with no *urgent* medical emergencies. I have no problem with my own doctors (calm and don't rush you, listen to what you have to say first) or dentists or any other caretakers. I am not even that afraid of pain. But I am deadly afraid of an ER-like scenario, where you get wheeled into the hospital like you're a shoppingcart on Black Friday, while you scream bloody murder; 'Can anyone please answer me?!" and they all decide to ignore your requests or forcefully start stabbing IV's in your arm without permission. I think I would respond with agression and bite their arm. How "normal" is this sortof behaviour towards patients? I know people are overworked and underpaid but I still shudder when I remember 'my' assistant, and it's been years.

I have sickle cell, so I’ve been to many hospitals and I’ve honestly spent more time with my nurses, then I have any doctor. Nurses are the ones that really know their patients because they spend the most time with their patients. These shows act like nurses are just assistants to the doctors with no training.

1:25 I most definitely worked 48-hour shifts during residency. 👁️👄👁️ As long as your hours average out to a maximum of 80 per week, (per four week period,) you're still within the guidelines. When I was interviewing for fellowships, I had an opportunity to speak to a resident at the hospital I was considering - I found out that often, (often enough that I would call it 'routine,' personally,) due to staffing issues, residents would end up ON for 160hrs/wk, and the hospital would just "give" them a week off to keep within the LZL limits...but would also require the residents to use their PTO. 🙂🙃Needless to say, I did not rank that program.
Fun Fact: When writing the script of this show, the writers would write "medical medical" in replacement of real terms because they wanted it to be accurate. (example: Put her and medical medical and order a medical medical.) They later brought in real medical professionals to fill in the blanks.
