Just a correction on the Aztecs and the Conquistadors. Although technology did help and given time the Aztecs would had in all likelihood fallen. It wasn't solely because of the weapons. Other tribes supported the Conquistadors as well as a new plague all contributed. Also Aztecs had some of the most advanced non metal weapons. Blunted weapon with obsidian shards put in the sides can be (although not as effective as a hammer) against armor.
@brianmoreno1024 жыл бұрын
Even all that wouldn't have been enough to take down the empire of the Aztecs. The deadliest weapon the Spanish brought with them was Smallpox. It utterly annihilated the Aztecs densely populated cities

"the number of people who believe the earth is flat has really decreased". There is reason to believe that the number of people who believe the earth is flat has increased in modern times relative to ancient times, as we know that ancient societies knew the earth was spherical. But as we can't exactly survey the general populous of ancient times, it's not really easy to know for certain.

Einstein's photoelectric effect isn't really related to the change of color of the flames when you add different atoms. The photoelectric effect is important for proving the quantization of light, while the atomic emission spectra of atoms being flamed is due to their electronic structures.

Incans had cannons but they were in the middle of a civil war so they did not stand a chance despite being the one with the best weapon among the locals. Aztecs had some higher tech stuff but the creation of steel was not part of it. Mayans had been missing for years when the conquistadors came. Aztecs and such could not use their numbers well, to make up for the inferior gear; I think that the spanish could of lost had the South and Central Americans been united and warned ahead of time. With out time travel you can't convince me otherwise... I mean a continent worth of people should be able to out due any one army.

Hello, love the series so far but i have to point out, you're over simplifying the reason the native americans lost to the conquistadores. The Aztecs fell because of disease and a poor empire build. They relied on the subjucation of their neighbours for tribute and sacrifices. And when the Spanish showed up, those same neighbours just said "fuck it, nobody can be worse than those Aztec A-holes". The Maya's actually kicked the Spanish but very early on. Thats actually why the Spanish went up north as they tried to invade Yucatan but got thrown back into the sea by the native Mayans. They eventually fell due to infighting and disease aswell. The inca's just had a massive civil war that weakened the empire. The Spanish also managed to capture the emperor very early on. But still, pockets of resistance kept fighting back for a while. The Spanish just got increadably lucky with their timing. Had the mayans been united, mexico wouldn't speak Spanish, if the Aztecs wherent such A-holes, same thing. Cause these guys were excellent fighters and the Spanish feared them. Metal armour or not, 1000 to 1 odds will make you shit your pants and you'll get over run. Technology is often crediten but it really wasnt such a big factor. Thanks for reading my TED talk if you did!

The hair part of this video bugged me. You said "as we know from magnets, like charges will repel each other" which is misleading about how magnets work. Magnets do not have a charge imbalance. Magnets produce magnetic fields and not electric fields. A closer example would be a capacitor but then you'd probably have to explain what that is too. Either way, I think it's important not to confuse people about magnetism and electricity because that can be a big hurdle for a lot of physics students.

Your simile of the conquistadors is incorrect. Funnily enough despite their technological advancement in weaponry, the spanish lost more fights against the aztecs than their number of wins against them. The only reason they manage to conquer tenochtitlan was because the surrounding population all shared a hatred for those people and so they joined with the spanish to invade. Thanks to the natives the spanish no longer had the disadvantage of the aztecs having more faniliarity with the terrain
