Fiverr is one of the largest freelancing platforms in the world and services range from the catchy $5 entry price to $2,000+ packages. Since the platform launched in 2010, it has changed a lot and Fiverr leadership has made an active push to t transform the cheap 'anything for $5' schtick into a professional, global resource community that serves entrepreneurs, small, and medium-sized businesses. Or, at least, that's what I've noticed.
I've been selling on Fiverr as a full-time, career freelancer for seven years and I'm a Top Rated seller in the Fiverr Pro program. This video is not sponsored by Fiverr (or anyone). I just wanted to react and share my personal experience and thoughts the matter. So... is Fiverr worth it?
Shoutout to Roberto Blake for creating amazing content! Link to his full rant video here -- • IS FIVERR WORTH IT FOR...

I like the way that you look at the revenue split on Fiverr. It can be annoying when you just look at that 20% figure, but when you think about the savings from working on a platform like Fiverr it is more justifiable. Thanks for your insight, awesome video!

Thank you for making this video! I've been on the fence about using Fiverr for voice over work like I have been DYING to do ever since 2018. I am no stranger to Roberto Blake and this video I clicked on because it was the video I just watched. 😂 And I wanted to rewatch his video again. I think both of your videos are great and I am stop going to be -hesitant- indecisive and *just join Fiverr already* all the while continuing with my TeeSpring store. Your video was absolutely refreshing and funny. It took away a lot of the doubts I had joining. Honestly, the buyers seem to be more at risk than us sellers on Fiverr (or any platform) and I definitely agree with you on a 20% stake partnering with a company like Fiverr is not that much.

What if you use Fiverr for the first transaction but in the future you connect with the same client outside of Fiverr for a different job? Technically Fiverr did connect you but if you've built up a strong relationship with a client you might connect on social media and promote each other and ultimately decide to skip the middle man for future jobs.
@carrieblogger
@carrieblogger 2 жыл бұрын
Technically based on the site TOS, that’s a no-no, but I totally see where you’re coming from and honestly completely agree with you. Especially if it grows into a strong professional relationship that extends beyond the job that they first contracted you for. That ongoing collaboration is because of you, not the platform. Same with tips - they shouldn’t take a commission off of tips because that’s 100% based on your merit and excellence, not related to the site’s marketing features, which is basically how I rationalize their cut of the pie. But… 🤷🏼‍♀️ we’ve just got to keep sharing honest opinions and letting them know what we expect and value. I honestly think it would be more fair if the commission was 20% for first time client orders because the platform connected you (fair enough) and 5% for repeat orders because they’re no longer offering lead generation/marketing services but you ARE utilizing their escrow, messaging, and order management tools. That would also strongly prioritize sellers to work hard to set up long-term contracts and keep clients coming back with amazing service. Win-win for literally everyone. Ultimately the platform can only run if there are talented providers willing to sell on it, and that requires a fair trade of benefits and services on their part. I want to see fiverr continue to do more to be a human-first platform rather than a revenue machine. It’s turning a lot of people off, and I’m at the top of that list.

But if I am new to the platform with no reviews than you are saying that my work should be deemed as less trustworthy because I'm new? How do I avoid this stigma as a seller? I have a portfolio designed for professional consideration should I submit this to Fiverr to gain a pro status or am I required to start out with no verification?
@carrieblogger

I’m saying that people inherently trust reviews online. If you don’t have that, you have to build that credibility in another way. Portfolio, a transparent list of experience, face forward friendliness, competitive value and clear pricing, etc. Check out these videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYuUc4qBnLaIf5I kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3a5oX2bh5mfqZo kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJ-slGNuYsxjg9k Good luck! I gave up on Fiver. I hired some people to create a company logo and I haven't heard back from them and had to cancel the order after the deadline was over a week late and no response from the seller. Now I just avoid it.

That just means that you chose the wrong person, unfortunately - just like anything else in life. Make sure to choose a reputable seller with credentials and reviews that back up their work. It’s also a good idea to send a message first to check availability. 🤞🏻

I used to be a top seller for 3 years (Also handpicked) and 2 or 3 years ago they implemented the rule that you need 90 percent on delivery completion... I offer spokesperson services and there is a long list of industries I don’t want to work with or associate my image with. Haven’t had a single badge since then... went from having 5 orders a day to 5 orders a month..... I can’t not cancel because no matter how clearly I state my disclaimers people just don’t read before ordering ;(
@carrieblogger
@carrieblogger 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that! I can’t wait for the day when they offer the ability to only accept offers from approved clients that have messaged you first. You might check out how aggressively I’ve marked that you can’t order my honest review gig without approval. I very, very rarely get unapproved orders that have to be cancelled now.
@PattysWayPlus
@PattysWayPlus 4 жыл бұрын
And that results in a scenario where people who simply don’t care about their face being associated with scams, get to have their badges instead of professionally trained actors and presenters, who do have higher stakes, when it comes to their image. I’ve seen some spokespeople who I used to see this on the front page 2014-2017, without any levels just like me. The problem is a lot of people use the video spokesperson for their Dropshipping and affiliate marketing sites they did so fast they themselves would be embarrassed to put their face on those sites so they come to us. I live presenting and video editing, but I should have a right to be selective when it comes to whose business I am face of.

I’m actually mulling over a Freelance Friday video topic right now to discuss the ‘moral obligation’ as a freelancer of working on products and projects that you don’t really support or believe in. Your comment has definitely provided a new angle for me to think about. I hadn’t thought about how the 90% completion metric factors into things yet.

Fiverr might get mandatory testing soon. I see people from far-off places proficient with English as their second language. But I notice several that aren't even good enough to write their own descriptions selling themselves as writers. It needs fixing, buyers might not look far enough to find the better gigs. On the good side, it shouldn’t be hard to make myself appear a literary genius (I am obviously not).
@carrieblogger
@carrieblogger 4 жыл бұрын
There is a beta program with skill verification and tests that I have been a part of. I’ve helped provide feedback for it during different stages. One issue with that (like all standardized tests) is making it a universal, fair representation. When I took their first updated version of an English Basics test last year, I only scored 83% or something... and I’m an English native who writes for a living! So... yes, I think it’s coming, but standardized tests are hard to do well. And they’re also building up Fiverr Learn as a way to show verified course completion for more transparency and credibility. However, I haven’t taken part in any of the courses yet (or maybe ever - we’ll see.) Thanks for watching!

Every job requires skill. Even categories that are easier to enter (data entry, VA, etc.) require a specific skillset, especially when it comes to efficiency and maximizing value for your time. Typically, less specialized skills pay less.

Local weather I agree with you that nobody should have to take their consumers off of fiber and why they wouldn't allow that however, if somebody decides to do that because the fighter chatted so it's not working only for contacted them and discussing the project that should be a different situation and they should not hinder people for that. Has I just mentioned in my last time, they wouldn't let me chat to my consumer on the site. So I tried to talk to him via email because they kept hindering my progress and the consumers progress. Eventually the consumer got sick and fucking tired of trying to talk to me because the site kept kicking them out of the checks or picking him a piece send me an email to talk to him. Or even sent to this email. And just for that reason I left the fucking sites. That shit piss me the fuck off. I understand not wanting to take your business elsewhere, but if all I'm trying to do is talk to them because the website itself will not let me then why the fuck should I stay in bother did you see if it's literally hindering my progress and hindering the consumers progress?

What is definitely an interesting perspective, and I'm glad that you are sitting sets one fiber yourself. But I for one hope to eventually get their fucking act together before somebody has it and really fucking sticks it to them. Somebody who can stick it to them. Eventually, eventually these companies and these Corporation and the fucking with the wrong person. Sometimes it takes a while, but eventually they walk with the wrong person. And when the day comes that they finally get those consequences, I hope it doesn't Splash Auntie you guys we're just trying to make a living. Or a little bit extra on the side.

Thank you for these videos! For someone like me, Fiverr also provides an opportunity to build a portfolio. No one had ever paid me to write something before I joined fiverr (they just asked me to write for free! haha!). I took a Udemy course in copywriting, and the instructor told us to write for free to build our portfolio. At the very least, I am grateful to Fiverr for giving me the chance to write roughly 200 pieces in the last few months. I wouldn't have thought of all of those subjects on my own. Now, I have a portfolio plus reviews. Even if Fiverr did go away, I still have the experience and knowledge gained in these last few months.

you lost me at the 11 minute mark. I was thinking about using fiverr to build client relationships. now fiverr is basically useless. As a web developer why on earth would I stake all my reputation and client relationships on a platform that will burn it all to the ground if I try to build my own brand? Fuck fiverr
@carrieblogger
@carrieblogger 4 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely build your own brand, but you just can’t use Fiverr’s marketing tools to directly siphon work off of the platform. I’m confident that I could be just as successful off the platform now that I’m so established, but I personally am willing to pay the 20% commission for the vast number of benefits that their support services provide. It’s a personal choice.
@666greatmetal
@666greatmetal 4 жыл бұрын
@@carrieblogger how could you build your brand if you can't get clients off the platform? Consider this scenario. I am a web developer and someone hires me on fiverr I do everything on the site and fiverr takes it's 20%. Then I give them my email address and tell them to contact me directly for future website needs. That's what I meant by client relations and building my brand. That's what I want to be able to do. If I can't do that then there's no point in fiverr to me.
@carrieblogger
@carrieblogger 4 жыл бұрын
But you’re missing the point that Fiverr’s 20% covers website, advertising materials, ALL of my marketing, chat tools, scheduling tools, automated communication, payment portal, customer support, fraud protection, etc. In my opinion, you’re paying for access to those services. You would not have connected with that customer if not for Fiverr, and they will continue to facilitate services for you to collaborate. What I meant was, you can simultaneously build your brand off the platform - there’s no reason that you can’t create a website and do your own separate marketing. That’s personally what I want to avoid - I want to focus on actual writing, not admin. You just can’t leverage Fiverr’s helpful tools to siphon work from them without paying back their finder’s fee. I also think about it like I just add that 20% to my pricing structure so that I’m still earning the dollar amount that I want after Fiverr’s commission. None of my financial tracking and projected estimates even take their commission amount into account - it’s theirs, not mine. Again, it’s all about your perspective and what services are valuable to you as you build your business. Good luck.
