FAQ AND RECOMMENDED SHOPS: "Wearing real fox tails, isn't that cruel to the original fox?" Wearing any type of real animal parts is a form of Taxidermy/Vulture Culture. It is a conscious choice and interest in the art of bringing a second life to deceased animals. If you have done proper research, the tail you buy is of a fox/animal that has lived a happy life in well caretaken farm, and hasn't undergone any form of pain when the tail was prepared. Either that, or you help finance controlled hunting to prevent overpopulation, or prevent waste. "Are faux fur tails the solution to potential cruelty?" Yes and no. While you will prevent yourself from accidentally buying a tail from a cruel fur farm (which can also be prevented with good research), it's important to realize that the fur of most faux fur tails are made of plastic vibers that can shed. When this plastic sheds into nature, it can actively harm its creatures like birds and insects. Whether you want to buy a real or faux fur tail is up to personal preference. When it comes to harm or ethicality, it won't make much of a difference. "Can I trust it when a website claims for the tail they sell to be faux fur?" NO. Not without using your eyes first. There are plenty of websites, especially Asian websites such as Wish, Aliexpress, EBay, Temu, Shien & Amazon that sell REAL fur tails (with a 99% chance of being cruel) as faux fur tails. You have to double check if the faux fur tail you want to buy is actually faux fur. This video will help you determine how to tell the difference. "How do I know that a tail is from a cruel animal farm?" Recommended video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goGvdHx4jr-ArKs Almost all cruel animal farms stem from Asian countries, this is because the laws on animal farms and animal rights is not operated in an animal-friendly way, and fur farms are not being inspected for animal cruelty. - This means that sites that are based on Asian trades usually only sell tails from Asian cruel fur farms, such as, but not limited to: Wish, Aliexpress, EBay, Temu, Shien & Amazon. Any shop that shows that it is from an Asian country is probably a cruel fur farm. - Prevent yourself from buying fur from shops that have sourced their fur from poorly ranked countries by The Animal Protection Index: api.worldanimalprotection.org/. I personally recommend staying away from furfarms ranked E, F, or G. Be mindful that the origin of the shop does not have to match with the country where they sourced their tails. An American shop could still sell tails sourced from Asian fur farms! - Tails from cruel animal farms are often recognized by the use of Stock photos (White backgrounds, very neatly photographed, sometimes only 1 photo available) - The tail is often chained to an infamous often used usually golden lobster clamp. Reference image: tinyurl.com/ythwezhe. That has a bulky, edged shape, with no thumb hook. This is often, but not always, accompanied by a chain that leads to a stump, and this stump is glued to the tail. - The tails are often, but not always, smaller and simply don't look healthy. Reference image: tinyurl.com/3hrfn5wy. Their leather, on the inside, is usually poorly scraped or even moldy too. Some shops glue/sew the leather inside shut so people cannot see the mold (ethical shops can glue/sew the leather shut for protection too however). - The whites of the tail is often, but not always, painted over. Reference image: tinyurl.com/t8few54w. to prevent it from turning blonde due it bleaching in the sun. But the paint often looks a little blue or even purple-ish. (Be mindful that ethical shops may paint/bleach their tails too). - Tails from cruel animal farms are generally a lot cheaper than from healthy farms. A tail under 20 dollars is usually quite cheap, and around 10 is a no go. Good pricing for a tail usually goes from 30+ dollars. Generally speaking, the more expensive a tail is, the more money is put into the care of the animals. - If a shop sells illegal animal products (of animals that only live in a region where it's illegal to hunt for said animal) such as any animal on The IUCN Red List of Endangered Species: www.iucnredlist.org/, will most likely not have ethically sourced fox tails or fur of any kind either. GENERAL TIPS ABOUT PURCHASING: - Do not look into the origin of the shop only, but also the origin of where the shop sources their fur. An American shop could still sell tails sourced from Chinese fur farms, for example. - Simply contact the seller, in case they do not specify on their webshop if their products are sourced ethically before buying anything from them. - Recently bought a tail from a shady webshop? You can often still cancel your order! - Does your family know you're alterhuman/interested in tails? Educate them about this in case they ever want to buy a tail for you. ETHICAL REAL FUR TAIL SHOP RECOMMENDATIONS: - Etsy. I always recommend this site as it has a lot of Taxidermy enthusiasts. Please still always check the origin of the shop and where the shop sources their fur, as Asian companies are also on this site. Etsy is also good for other types of gear!: tinyurl.com/4749d44f - Wyldertaxidermy: wyldertaxidermy.bigcartel.com/ - A fellow therian who sells tails through Etsy: tinyurl.com/9khtpe68 and Instagram: tinyurl.com/fcsfkb8f - Orange Lion: tinyurl.com/2j4ft4y3 - A fellow therian that sells taxidermy and sometimes tails through their website: tinyurl.com/2j4ft4y3 and Instagram: tinyurl.com/47kcxnh. - ValkyrjaAllure: tinyurl.com/2p9cxpnr - This shops sells very high quality ethical fur tails on Etsy - TurkishLeatherFur: tinyurl.com/cp3ax7uy - A Turkish leather shop that sells all kinds of furs, including fox tails on Etsy - HandmadeFromNaturFur: tinyurl.com/rvpdpdam - This shop sources from Poland (ranked C) and contributes part of the profit to family in Ukraine. - SterlingFoxTaxidermy: www.etsy.com/shop/SterlingFoxTaxidermy - This shop high quality ethical fur tails sourced from American and Canada on Etsy. - Local markets and thrift shops often have hand-me-down taxidermy and is usually not from Asian fur farms. It is however good to note that these tails might be from foxes that have been hunted and not farmed. SHOPS TO STAY AWAY FROM - As mentioned before: Alieexpress, Amazon, EBay, Temu, Shein, Wish, etc. - ChimerataxidermyAU. Many people have had bad experiences with their tails being broken and badly tanned, and they have the infamous golden lobster clip. - Furtail./com/furtails./com. Has way too many red flags. There is no chance they are ethical simply put. - Furlux Studio on Etsy. This shop sources their fur from Ukraine, which is ranked E on the The Animal Protection Index. - FurForestFox on Etsy. This shop sources their fur from Ukraine, which is ranked E on the The Animal Protection Index. - `pelts_and_fur` a.k.a. `fur_and_pelts` on Instagram is a scam shop. More info on it can be found here: instagram.com/p/CwqXCPmp-eI/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA%3D%3D COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT FUR FARMS & HUNTING/TRAPPERS: - There is a common belief that any fur farm can be considered cruel. While this will of course always be a matter of personal opinion and perspective, people with this belief often do not know that ethical fur farms almost treat the animals as pets, by giving them plenty of free space to roam, (medically) caring for them, and euthanizing them without any pain. What one considers to be cruel or ethical is based on personal opinion to some degree. - There is a common belief that *any* hunting or trapping taking place within an area is considered cruel. While this will of course always be a matter of personal opinion and perspective, people with this belief often do not know that hunting/trapping is sometimes done to prevent overpopulation and to help the biodiversity of their area (illegal and unauthorized hunting/trapping takes place however!). Having too many predators within an area can result in too little grazers in an area, which leads to overgrown vegetations, which can harm the local ecosystems' habitat. Having too much grazers can lead to the same consequences but with overgrazed areas instead. Financially supporting authorized hunters/trappers can actively help nature management organizations and therewith nature in general. - Only certain species that are currently farmed: ranch/red foxes, blue/arctic foxes, finnraccoon/tanuki/raccoon dogs, mink, sables (but only really in Russia), and rabbits. Anything that isn't one of these species almost certainly came from an animal that was trapped or hunted, and definitely not from an animal that was farmed. Coyote tails are not farmed animals and therefore cannot be from cruel fur farms, instead they are sourced from hunting and trappers. - Most fur farms will not profit much off tails. It's okay if you do not want to financially support fur farms at all, but be mindful that not buying tails from fur farms won't make much of a difference in the financial state of fur farms. Because fur farms mostly profit off of fur coats instead, which are way more expensive. More info on this can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioCkY5lqi8yFopY - It's important to realize that not wanting to support fur farms will also mean you have to do extensive research to know how to spot real fur from faux fur, even in products you do not expect. Real fur is simply a lot cheaper than faux fur. Therefore you'll find that jackets with those famous furry patches on the hood, also often has real fur. It's also important to realize that buying such fur products isn't much different from buying anything of real leather, such as leather shoes or bags.

I have a friend who bought a real cruel tail on Amazon. When I told them this they refused to believe me because the tail was falsely advertised as faux fur. Even just glancing at their tail you can tell immediately that it is real fur. You can easily see the leather inside it too. I’m going to show them this video so that they understand that their tail isn’t faux at all.

Yarn tails look more realistic if you brush them out more and put a bit of conditioner in them. They can also be tapered if you use a different method, where you make bundles of fluff and use a long string to tie them together, to taper it you can just make the bundles towards the top smaller. I would also recommend trimming your yarn tail after brushing it.

They don’t specify if the tails are real or not or if they are from a cruel farm so ya can u help 😭💀 and it doesn’t have like a band or elastic band going down through it like u said-

Hi, so my tail... Idk about my tail.. Im terrified because it looks real. It is really flexible and if u look at the start of the strands of the fluff, its darker then what it is on the outside, ive done some research but not alot and im so so so so scared that my tail is from a cruel fur farm.. Its beige and greyish and a tiny bit of black and white. It also smells like a dog.. Ik thats weird- i did get it on shien so... Idk if it is fake! I really hope you respond and give me some help! Thank you for reading!

The shein part worries me, because the real fur tails there are cruel (shein is a Chinese company but the head quarters are located in singapore) If you're not sure if it's real, check the top of the tail, it should be slimmer and if the fur looks like it doesn't have any shine to it, then it's probably real.
