Fun fact: the flamethrower at 4:55 is called The Blaster and it actually has an interesting backstory. It wasn’t some crazy, unhinged mod, it was an actual defense mechanism meant to deter carjackers in South Africa. More importantly, it was LEGAL. See, back in the late 90’s, Johannesburg was the violent crime capital of the world, particularly in carjackings at stop lights. The Blaster was created as a lethal defense mechanism, since the carjackings more often than not resulted in the death of the driver. The South African government ruled that the sale and use of the Blaster was 100% legal on the grounds of self-defense. The only problem was it was super expensive, not counting the custom bodywork required to install it. About 50 units were sold, but poor sales meant it was discontinued a few years later.

It's kinda wild that, in the US "Oh yeah, that just broke" is an excuse that works on the cops - here in Australia, the cops will stick a Yellow Sticker on your car that basically indicates "this car better be driving to the mechanic to get fixed, and nowhere else" if you say that.
@Jay222223 ай бұрын
In both countries, as with anywhere else, it’s completely dependent on what’s broken and the attitude of both you and the cop. In my opinion your explanation of “the yellow sticker” is completely incorrect. Your car being defected will cost you at minimum, $1000 And removing/tampering with the large sticker in the middle of the windshield isn’t just civil, it’s a criminal offense that will also cost you several thousand more dollars. I think you’ve misinterpreted something somewhere. A cop might use their discretion to “allow” some sort of infringement on the premise that you are driving without detour to immediately address some issue but it’s not a right, you’d be foolish to take it for granted or mess about as even if being “permitted” you’re still taking a big risk.

If he is unable to do so, the vehicle is taken to an expert who checks its roadworthiness. The driver may not use his vehicle again until it is in the legally permitted condition. Some states in the USA have mandatory yearly safety inspections, most do not. Ask, what do those inspections accomplish? How often will a yearly safety inspection tell the driver something they didn't already know, or motivate them to fix a car that they weren't already going to fix? Is the benefit actually worth the cost of all that bureaucracy? Most states calculate the answer as "no it's not." That's not because of "disregard for everyone's lives" -- it's because they did the math and that's the answer.

Basically, instead of the wild and random lights they do a standard soft-red for braking, a light-show-style sweep of lights left or right for turn signals, which is SHOCKINGLY effective at indicating how they want to turn, and best of all a brighter red with a single flash if they do a hard brake suddenly. In other words, the tech that allows for the kinda-dumb light show Can Be Used For Good.
